    Standard deviation is a bit misunderstood. A stdev of 1 grain with an average of 100 grains is pretty good. That same 1 grain stdev when your average is 15 grains is not so great. If you divide your standard deviation by the average you will get %RSD, which is easier to work with and understand. Generally a %RSD less than 2% is considered good.

    I don't have a comment other than accuracy can be a lot of different factors, Brass is one of them. However, You can really go down the rabbit hole and get spun off into a lot of negativity about bullets, brass, powder, primers, dies, seating depth's, reloading operations, and quality of equipment. watch what it does to you (Your Marksmanship) if you don't feel good about the ammo, I will bet it won't shoot that good for ya. Many times when I went to DCM matches they issued the ammo, some would complain "Oh Not this crap" they would say and their scores would show. So keep an open mind and always try to not let things get into your head (Negativity) all by itself is a group killer. Here is another thing as well. Your Rifle has a personality all its own and it will have likes and dislikes as well. Chambers can have run out and barrels can be warped with heat. You may have a starting groove diameter that is larger at the chamber end and smaller in the middle then back out to a large diameter at the muzzle, seldom does a rifle shoot consistently with and barrel like that. You may have run out of your bullet seating, That is another source of inaccuracy. So Just a few demons to haunt you as time goes by.. Dave.

      I appreciate you leaving such grounding comments like this, it will greatly help new people reading through the commentsand remind them to take a step back and remember a large part of this entire process is mindset and attitude, thanks Dave

    How much should I expect to pay for decent 9mm brass, cost per round?

    John Mcquay @ 8541 tactical has a TH-cam channel and he has lots of good info on case and bullet selection. He shoots PRS and says if you losses a winchester case that's kind of OK. He finds winchester brass very consistent and a good bang for the buck. I also use winchester, but I have used starline and the hornady custom brass is very consistent for my shooting, I have not jumped into the long range shooting yet.

    I was looking to see how Starline, Peterson or Alpha figured into this, but then I noticed that's it's a five year old video.

    How many times do you want to reload. Try ten times with each case. What case last the entire 10 times without cracking or warping!

    Neighbor (I live in Tooele and shoot in the same area), have you tried SIG brass for your .243? I am having some good luck in consistency, accuracy and case life. My biggest problem I've had with my .243 has been with PPU brass after firing factory ammo. It seems to be very difficult to open the bolt after firing, and I haven't been able to figure out why. This is the only reloads that I've had this problem with, and wonder if you have any ideas? Would love to have some in-depth conversation with you about reloading, and from your videos on neck sizing, will be buying some collet dies for my numerous calibers. Thanks

      My guess on the pressure would be caused by thicker case walls therefore less case capacity and increased pressure. Weigh the different brands and see

    • @jasnonya3005
      @jasnonya3005 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      High pressure can cause fired cases to stick, or an extremely rough chamber/poor polishing after reading. examine your chamber for tooling marks. Oal can cause pressure spikes as well.as in a short chamber where the ogive is touching the lands. Doing a chamber casting and measure it very carefully check the ammo as well. Are the primers popping out or bulging obvious high pressure signs

      I don't have any trouble with Winchester, Remington, or SIG brass sticking. I have used the same charges in all brands of brass, all identically prepared, but the PPU is the only brass I have trouble extracting. Regardless of how hot (or mild) I load it, I still experience the same. Factory PPU ammunition doesn't have any problems, in fact, I get really good results with it, but I'm baffled by the reloaded brass results

      I fired a factory 270 win ppu and case ruptured. I dont think they do a good job annealing their brass.

    Excellent! I wish Lapua made brass for my .270 Win rifles.....Peterson makes quality brass for .270 Win.
    I thought Norma made Nozler brass?

    Good to know! I have a five gallon bucket of 223/556 brass. I guess I need to sort it sometime I'm bored. Or maybe I will just wait until I start reloading and sort it when I de prime it all. Thanks for the great info brother.

    Besides weight and dimension consistency for bench rest shooting, primer pocket life should be something everyone should consider. If you can't hold the primer then the brass is considered useless. That would be an interesting video to make. How long each piece of brass will last with a given load.

  • @smartass6071

    By your own admission you know very little about the quality of the brass/ So why would anyone take your advice?

  • @Magisktification
    @Magisktification 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lapua is not always that great when comes to pistolbrass for example for tve .32 s&w they tend to crack alot and we are talking moderate to weak loads in straightwalled brass.

    I was going to comment on the last video but maybe try out some reloder 26, it's easier to find than 4350 and yields better velocities. I shoot a 105gr amax 46.7gr of rl26 .008 off the lands 3120 fps, obviously work up with your rifle that is for mine. Good shooting bud thanks for the videos.

    • @WestDesertShooter
      @WestDesertShooter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will keep that in mind, I have two pounds on hand so I should be set for a while. I dont shoot a huge amount of rounds when I go out. Thanks for the info I will compare velocities against each other when I get there

    Nice info bud! I like the way you are going through and making a series for precision rifle reloading. It will be great for a newcomer to have it all in one spot. Took me years to stumble onto videos, and only get a tidbit of info. But I pieced it together! Hahaha.

    I dont have a .243 or load for one but i do have and load for .308 and my experience with lapua brass is yes its very consistent however its also very hard. I only got 5 loadings with mine and that was annealed on the 4th loading. I dont know of anybody getting much more loadings then that. I know a guy who only got 3 loadings on his .338 lapua. Ymmv though.

    All Weatherby brand brass is actually manufactured by Norma.
