Great review Mark. This year was my second and this year was much more challenging than last year due to the wind. I’m like you. Last year I got hooked from the beautiful countryside, blue skys, history of the area and of course the fantastic opportunities to shoot and make new friends with lots of people with similar values, I would highly recommend to anyone thinking about trying it.
Hope to meet you next year.

Nice review mark, you mentioned that you practiced before going to the match. However in your review, you never mentioned the various target ranges or the size of the targets. That would be some helpful information to aid us first time / novice shooters to have so that we can get some practice in before making that trek.

There are six distances at the match. 350 yards standing, 417 yards, 505 yards, 585 yards, 650 yards, and 805 yards. The targets are various sizes and shapes. I practiced on 30 inch steel disks, although the match targets are larger. Carefully chronograph your loads and develop a range card with the data. Thoroughly familiarize yourself with your vernier sights for the distances so that you can adjust on the fly. Thank you for watching and leaving a thoughtful comment.

@wlowden65 You asked about the targets as well. The targets have various shapes and sizes - rectangles, diamonds, circles, squares, and finally, buffaloes at 805 yards. The Buffalo targets are 9 feet wide and 6 feet tall, the other shapes are between 4 feet square to 36 inches round. I practiced most with the offhand shooting at 350 yards. I hope this helps somewhat.

It was a blast, I was on A yellow and camped onsite.

The wind was wild on Saturday, late afternoon; not much better on Sunday. I agree, it was a blast!

Great video Mark, I was wondering what the process is to take your rifle and ammo across the border to Montana? I live in BC and know of only one from my area that went to the Quigley ( he has dual citizenship) and I never thought to ask . It has been in the back of my mind to go to the Quigley and now that I was fortunate to get an oringinal 1874 Sharps 45 70 I am more interested. I also have 2 1885 Winchester 45 70's . Getting across the border both ways with rifle and ammo is a mystery , would pass that info to me. Thanks .

Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. You will need to go onto the Quigley Match website and request an invitation to the match www.quigleymatch.com/
You will need to go to the BATF website and download a copy of Form 6NIA. Fill in the form carefully and return by email only, along with your copy of the invitation. Make certain you have a valid passport in your possession along with your PAL. Request the invitation in late November, send your completed form 6NIA no later than the end of January. It will take about ten weeks to get your form 6NIA back from the BATF. I hope this helps you.

That was a great review, Mark! How did you place?

I'm not 100% sure, I believe somewhere around 171st place, so in the top 25% of shooters. I had some bad management on my part at the 605 yards, I had my vernier sighting way too high. I wasted 5 shots figuring out what was wrong. Maybe next year . . . Thank you for watching, Ghost Rider.

thank you for the info. do you need a spotter? i want to shot the match but i would be solo.

    • @markcarew6724

You will need a spotter for sure. However, tell the range staff that you are solo and they will have someone gladly be your spotter. Also, other competitor's spotters on your relay will be glad to assist you. If you see Doug and me at next year's match, we can spot for you.
