    Hi NorthridgeFix, I have a question for you. I recently acquired a Sony TC-K909ES 3 head cassette deck. When I record a cassette and play it on another deck, it sounds amazing, the bias, the treble and the bass is spot on. However, when i play the same cassette on the K909 or any other pre-recorded cassette, it sounds like the treble is all the way down. Very less treble. I checked everything I could think of, cleaned the heads (heads looks like new), checked the azimuth, tape paths, even replaced all the electrolytic caps in the unit. Nothing has changed. I even downloaded the service manual and i traced the path for the playback head. The pre-amp on this play back section uses a Mitsubishi IC 5220 (8pin) which is located right next to the playback head socked to the board. While playing back, when i place my finger near the IC or the socket, sort of a interference happens and i can hear the playback with the spot on treble. Might be just the interference causing it. Could this IC be defected and causing it to have low treble while playing back? Thought of changing the IC, would really like your input on this. Can a defected OpAmp IC cause it to have low treble? or high frequencies? I even unplug the play back head and plugged in the record head to the playback socket, level becomes really low but the same thing, no treble. So cannot be the head. As I said, OpAmp uses 3 electrolytic caps 220uF 50V which I have replaced. I believe the problem lies on the OpAmp somewhere. Please help my friend. I really need to get this fixed.

    Can i ask how your method to clean flux from the board?

    • @ryankraft9897
      @ryankraft9897 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Q-tip with isopropyl alcohol is my guess. The flux is quite thick and sticky at first but eventually the alcohol cleans up the board really nice. Use the 99% stuff as there is quite a bit of water in the 70% stuff.

    • @lexander9686
      @lexander9686 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Q-tips (ear cleaner)& 95%or above alcohol (IPA), if it doesn't come off try reheating the part where the flux is then immediately apply IPA and it should come right off.

    You would think by now, hdmi ports would be more securely attached to the board. The amount of failures that occur would indicate that many just aren't fit for purpose.
