    11/22/63 is extremly good! SO good! It's written nicely, easy to get along! The characters are real and close to heart! The plot is amazing! The "eastereggs", the atmosphere! Best book I read so far!!!

      100% agree. To me, the enjoyment of the world and my love for the characters makes me not care that it isn't a concise story.

    One of my favorites is TimeBound, it's part of a series and I read all of them pretty fast. I like the concept of only certain people can time travel due to their genetics and that makes them all have careers in documenting the past. So good!

    Time Stamp. Set in 2058 in a dystopian AI world where the world is divided by those who live within the singularity, and the rural community who never took the technology, the unlikely creator of this world realises his mistake and aims to go back in time to save the world. He aims for 1990s but misses and arrives in 1839 at the dawn of the Penny Post. Great fun, amusing, interesting and poignant. x

    My favourites are the Oxford Time Travel series by Connie Willis. The Doomsday Book is the best one, but To Say Nothing of the Dog is great fun, and Blackout/All Clear is a bit of an epic, though I wish it was a bit shorter.

    Of course there is the Time machine, but Time ships is by Stephen Baxter and is the only authorized sequel to the time machine. You might enjoy it. There was also a choose your own adventure series also named the Time machine. This series is for children, though.

    Hi, great video! I'm a sucker for time travel stories as well. I'll have to check out some of your recommendations and pass along a couple of my own. The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers, which involves an English professor accompanying a group of millionaires going back in time to attend a lecture by a minor Samuel Taylor Coleridge in 1810. Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams, which interestingly also involves Coleridge. Finally, check out The Man Who Folded Himself by David Gerrold, which is about as mind-bending a time travel story as you'll find. Hope you enjoy!

    I’m so glad this popped up in my recs, I need more time travel books in my life!
    I’m surprised not to see The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton here... if you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it. The protagonist keeps reliving the same day to try to solve the mystery of a woman’s murder, but the catch is every day his consciousness wakes up in the body of a different character somehow involved with the murder. One of my favorites.
    I also recently read Oona Out of Order by Margarita Montimore, and though I didn’t love it, the time travel element was very interesting: the protagonist lives her life out of order, leaping to a different year of her life every New Year’s Eve. Think 13 Going on 30 but on crack.

    • @JoshsBookishVoyage
      @JoshsBookishVoyage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have read seven deaths (after this list), but I *really* disliked it haha. From what I hear it tends to be polarizing. I love a good groundhog narrative but that one didn't work for me.

    Really liked the video! Would there be one you would recommend to read first because i know each book has its own aspect of time travel, I'm really leaning towards the Stephen King novel, I'm familiar with the author and story of JFK, but I also trust your recommendations. Thank you for your video.

    • @JoshsBookishVoyage
      @JoshsBookishVoyage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      11/22/63 is a personal favorite. However, it is overly long and not very focused. That doesn't bother me but it does bother a lot of people. Of course, if you're familiar with King it's probably something you're used to.
      Replay by Ken Grimwood is an easy fun read that leans heavily into the time travel aspect.
      If you want a unique take, I think the first 15 lives of harry August is a great choice.

    Apart from Dr Who,which I hate,time travel is my favourite Sci -Fi sub genre. I would highly recommend the young adult novel series Time Riders by the British novelist Alex Scarrow if it's available in the USA even though I am 48 years old. It deals with actual historical events which I think make the BEST time travel stories as you have the added question "How can you make a story based on a real historical event when you can't change what happened ? Sam Beckett leaping into Lee Harvey Oswald is a prime example whereas Dr Who explained Agatha Christie's disappearance as being kidnapped by giant wasps and that's why she never spoke about it. WAY TOO SILLY and that's why I hate Dr Who.

    • @JoshsBookishVoyage
      @JoshsBookishVoyage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the absurdist nature of Dr who. I also love a closed time loop where history can't be changed. But I also love changing history.
