Fearlessly the IDIOT faced the crowd , smiling .
Mercilessly the magistrate turns round , frowning .
And who's the fool who wears the crown ?
No doubt in your own way.
And every day is the right day.
And as you rise above the fear lines in his brow,
      you look down.
Hear the sound of the faces in the crowd.
If you know anything about the law , you would realise the significance of these lyrics .
The idiot is smiling because he knows something .
The magistrate is frowning because he knows something .
And that is, at law an idiot cannot be prosecuted .
It seems that Pink Floyd knew their law .

Pink Floyd " Fearless". this specific song is special to me. It's truly an underated PF song on the album Meddle which was overshadowed by the dark side of the moon. Back then album's would come out months apart without out letting some of these album's breathe on their own and age with a little time to stir the right taste in the listeners ear because you already had another album in your ears too soon. Plus it's the Dark Side of The Moon of all album's. Anyway. " Fearless track number three on album called Meddle. It's a few songs that are deeply touching to me which grab me and even bring tears to my eyes because of the lyrics, the sounds of guitars chimming, folk country tinged strumming acoustic guitar with counter rhythmic electric guitars with downstroke drum accents and beautiful melododic keyboards with and the angelic vocal track byt David Glimour. Not to leave out Roger Waters who wrote the lyrics and probably wrote the song, and yet still provides a simple yet tasteful bass line. This song is one of my favorite songs of all time.

I know, right? It has One Of These Days, a staple of Floyd's live track list for ages, it has Echoes, their first demonstrable masterpeice long-form epic that would go on to define them for years, and it has a few great tracks like this one! Why is it not held up on the same pedistal as Dark Side, Animals, WYWH and The Wall, then? I'll never understand.

Man takes me back to when I was a snot nose 18 yr old with my friends driving to the mountains with munchies drinks and a couple ounces of blue dream damn we felt unstoppable like we'd live forever.. Unfortunately that wasn't the case.. My best friend had hung himself a year later.. He's gone now and I don't have anyone to talk to like I would with him. He loved Floyd especially the meddle album right after his favorite , Piper... Dark side coming in third.. Out of all the meddle tracks his favorite were fearless and San tropez... He'd always say how when listening to fearless he'd always think back to the time we climbed a mountain stoned as hell.. We almost died that day though it was an awesome day I will never forget.. He liked that phrase "and I'll climb that hill in my own way.." Rest easy Jesus Hernandez my best friend.. Hopefully you did look down and hear the sound of the things I said today. May we meet in the next life. As of now, in this one you reside in my mind... I'm 22 now.. I will live in your honor, I'm terribly sorry for such an immense pain you felt. May you know peace now brother.. Love always your bro Nick

I know what its like to be stuck, the mind can be scary and sometimes what we're surrounded by is even scarier... good on you man.. may you have many more days of clean living take care bro, not everyone has the chance in doing so.. The word after "you say the hills too steep to climb", is "chiding", not "climbing". It is a response to the disapproval that one can't reach the goals one sets for themselves. Then it goes on, "you say you'd like see me try", this time the response is "climbing", i.e. "I told you I could."

Hey "scarecrow" "yes you" my passed away brother from a different mother, youll never be forgotten, away from the "blues" illuminating each and every individual leaf that hung low off those trees alive with breath, vibration and fantastic color on those hazy, humid, piping hot predawn august mornings, "off yr rocker" "jus a little" together with you and others trukn headlong in a "run" @ full bore to a marathon to grids of electric lavender purple hues, sunburst firey reds right up and with an eggshell crack of our heads, splintered and chased away our souls from being. way out and "over the rainbow" we went with you the most profound spiritual movement one could ever hope to reach in their lifetime upon this earthen plane and hopes high to join you once again in my hour @ the tables of the gods we sat......

    "Fearless"
You say the hill's too steep to climb,
    Chiding!
You say you'd like to see me try,
    Climbing!
You pick the place and I'll choose the time
    And I'll climb
The hill in my own way
just wait a while, for the right day
And as I rise above the treeline and the clouds
I look down hear the sound of the things you said today
Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd, smiling
Merciless, the magistrate turns 'round, frowning
and who's the fool who wears the crown
Go down in your own way

I love all of Pink Floyd. I have DSOTM recorded in my head from listening so much that I would not need it to be on my DIV list. I can "listen" to it by thinking about it (OK exaggeration, but still).
For a while, Animals was my favorite album.
Then I really got a chance to listen to Meddle. It's untouchable. I love it more than DSOTM. I love it like I love food or air.
Fearless is IMO the greatest PF track of all time.

I'm the same way with Dark Side Of The Moon. My parents had that album on repeat when I was born, and played it several times when I was taken home for the first time, according to them. I also grew up, found it on my own somehow, and listened to it many more times on an old cassette player of mine when I was a kid. So it was like destiny, really. Ever since then, every second of this album is stuck in my long-term memory for good.

  • @JoseAntonioDuclaud
    @JoseAntonioDuclaud 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

This album, "Meddle", actually consolidated the Gilmour-Waters writing partnership and also revealed or perhaps confirmed the Barret-lacking-talent of the group. "Fearless" is the most interesting tune in "Meddle", I think, particularly the 2:19 to 2:41 gentle guitar portion which set the stage for the atmospheric albums that were to come. I do see an important late Beatles influence in the lyrics of a pair of tunes contained in "Meddle", though "Fearless" is not one of them.

    • @SRSOS

      @ Jose Antonio Duclaud
To say Syd lacked talent is disingenuous. We are not talking about Brian Jones here. Syd just couldn't handle the pressures of big business as well as gobbling acid like candy, leads to breakdowns in already unstable minds. Commercial success and creating works of art are not necessarily the same things sometimes. Differing styles and tastes.
Would it be like saying that Roger made a living off of exploiting Syd's illness for commercial music success and who would do that, all appearances aside to the contrary? :-)

He told me he wanted to write a book because it might offer a form of therapeutic relief but that probably no one would buy it. I responded by reminding him, what if only 1 person bought the book but that it made a significant, positive impact on that individual. Couple that w the therapeutic impact it provided on you to write it. Isn't that a success? I'm learning that life is all about proper perspective.

I was living with my brother, broke as a joke. One day, I walked out of my apartment building after a thunderstorm had just passed through, and I heard a terrible noise that I thought must be a dying animal. I sighed and walked towards the sound, thinking I might have to put down some poor mortally-wounded creature so that it wouldn't suffer unnecessarily.
I took two steps before a little fluffball appeared out of the dark, and ran to me. I bent down, picked up the tiny kitten, and she started purring. "I have a cat now," I thought. "How did this happen? I wasn't trying to have a cat, but now I have a cat."
I carried her about a mile to the closest convenience store, spent half of my money on cat litter and cat food, then headed back to my apartment. As I was walking down some railroad tracks, she was getting sick of being held, so I put her down, and she went scouting in the dark up ahead of me. She seemed to have no fear, and the song "Fearless" had a particular meaning to me at that time in my life, so I named her "Fearless" for both of those reasons.
The name fit her, and almost nothing scared her, except for that she did have one fear: thunderstorms.
She lived a very long life, and brought a lot of joy to me and my family. I hope you're in kitty heaven, Fearless - you did a great job!
