*Like the other comments are saying, this AU has potential, but the lore is all over the place. So here is my head canon of this AU. Story: The lava in Hotland begins to rise and heat up the area. This causes the CORE, which relies on the lava (geothermal energy) to produces magical air and electricity, to start to heat up as well. The ice cubes, which Ice Wolf throws into the river in Snowdin to cool the CORE, become less effective each day. Alphys tries to find the reason why Hotland is unusually hotter. She discovers that a earthquake, which happened a few days earlier, had created cracks in the crust in Hotland. This causes more lava to enter Hotland, thus making it hotter. She estimates that the rising lava will overflow the entire Underground. And if things weren't bad enough, the CORE was going to explode from the intense heat, cutting off the magical energy in the Underground and killing everyone in Hotland and likely beyond from the explosion. She attempts to keep this under wraps, but Undyne soon discovers this and spreads news of this. This causes the entire Underground to go into a panic state. While this is happening, the 7th human falls down. The monsters, after the 7th human leaves the Ruins and driven by desperation, only know that they need to escape the Underground within the next 27 hours to save themselves from imminent extinction. Gameplay: Every battle becomes harder and more punishing for taking hits. The monsters (excluding Toriel since despite her situation, she doesn't want to fight you. Papyrus, though reluctant to kill you, has to to save monsterkind.) are giving it there all. They can't be spared, since it is their life or yours. You also have a timer of 27 hours to complete the game. Reloading your last save will reset the timer to the time it was when you saved. Flowey encourages you to complete the game as soon as possible, getting mad if you waste too much time on something. He wants to absorb the six human souls ASAP. You encounter Undyne more in Waterfall. Her fight is as hard as Undyne the Undying, driven by her duty to save monsterkind. When she chases you when you flee, she is much faster. Once you enter Hotland, Undyne won't follow you, knowing that she will heat up quickly in her armor and die. Mettaton gets straight to the point, not wanting his fans and him to die. Muffet is more aggressive, comboing her attacks. Sans won't fight you, even if he is going to die, mostly because he is too lazy to try. When you encounter Asgore, he gets serious. He absorbs the six human souls. His fight is the hardest of them all, and paired with few remaining minutes left before the lava rises and the CORE explodes, you have to kill him fast. Flowey, though not visible, will assist you with an occasional healing pellet. Once you kill Asgore, Flowey will destroy his soul and absorb the six human souls, stopping the timer and turning into Photoshop Flowey. Same things happens as in Undertale, only now the entire Underground is now flooded with lava and the CORE explodes, with no monsters remaining. Before any of you ask why they don't use the six souls to stop this from happening, Asgore feels too guilty to use them, only when you reach him does he get over his guilt. Also, when under life threatening conditions, you don't think clearly. So yeah, this is my idea of Undertale: The Last 27 Hours.
**this AU genuinely has potential, but it was ruined by not only having pretty choppy lore, but making it revolved around sans just like 95% of AU's, so I'm pasting my headcanon lore here.** The CORE is having a nuclear meltdown. It can no longer support the massive amounts of energy holding it and the underground together. Every monster in the underground is doomed to die to either nuclear fallout or the explosion at hand whenever the CORE explodes. The only way the monsters can escape Mt. Ebott and onto the surface is if they get the final 7th human, who just so happens to fall into the mountain during this incident. They have but 27 hours to achieve the soul of the human and have Asgore break the barrier with the 7 human souls before the CORE explodes and takes every monster's life. This makes playing through the game not only much harder due to the monsters being much more hostile, but you are timed to complete it in 27 hours, or else the CORE explodes, which would take you down with the monsters. Using mercy doesn't work on them either, its either your life or theirs in this game. You are forced to attack them even if you don't wish to. The final stand-off would not be with sans, but with Asgore, who absorbs the souls instead.
@@gargolgaming8101 they upgraded the core to the have a nuclear option, and considering they are unexperienced in nuclear matters, this will surely "blow up" in their face (my reason) P.S they found the blueprints to how to build a nuclear reactor in a dumpster

I guess I could see Sans convincing the Human Souls to help him unlike Omega Flowey due to the souls possibly going to be destroyed too if they don't help him get the last soul to shatter the barrier before the nuke. Although, they probably will eventually turn on him to escape themselves if they see that Sans can't defeat the human even with their help. Sans probably wouldn't be as experienced to use SAVE LOAD and RESET like Flowey was since he was the most determined before Frisk arrived.

sans could simply leave the underground and take another humans soul and stop all this. and just one shot frisk, he already went through 2 phases before this so he'd just finish em off and then save monsterkind
While I do like the concept of the government sending a nuke to the underground, I feel like it should expanded to an entire AU rather than a 3 phase sans fight
I wanna see how the other characters are impacted by a nuke being sent to the underground in 27 hours, for example: undyne, alphys, asgore, and toriel (if she were to survive).
Yeah it's a lil boring how a solid concept is turned into yet *another* Sands AU. I'm atleast expecting Underfell kinds of characterization. Like what if Alphys actually used the Amalgams Or Undyne stopped with the theatrics & told Papyrus why he couldn't join the Guard was that he couldn't compromise to take a life to save everyone especially in a time of crisis that either makes or breaks Papyrus. Or just- anything else at all. Would more than love to see a redo of this AU or something of a similar vain.
I like the idea of monsterkind being subject to an existential threat caused by something that isnt the player. I like the concept of them being put in a situation where they no longer attack you out of a desire for freedom, but instead pure self preservation (meaning that they are in turn more hostile). I just think a nuke is a bit over the top and goofy; you could execute a very similar concept with just a core meltdown or something.

Not gonna lie, Just have 27 hours to survive while to stop the nuke you need the last human soul, being forced to show no mercy while time is running and is all of you monsters or the human, sounds like majora mask for me
because it is just sans, the lore is utter trash, the music is a hit or miss, hardmode sucks, and there is no development on literally every other major Undertale character
*Now it is 21 minutes before the human being prepares for the nuclear explosion, sans has absorbed the seven souls in the realm, and he is going to use his ability to go back in time for the last time, which will destroy frisk's save point when the nuclear bomb explodes. Sans then uses the ability to go back in time to save all monsters and prevent frisk from returning to this world forever. But this AU completely disappeared due to breaking away from the original world line
Phase 1 is prob meant to be the waterfall encounter, phase 2 would be the actual judgement hall encounter. This would be phase 3. So they messed up the phases, or phase 2 never existed

Last time I check it only requires a boss monster soul and a human soul to break the barrier unless I'm wrong
