Wilco makes music - not videos, or photo ops, or celebrity endorsements. They are the real deal, and they have paid their dues over the past 13 years. Wilco have developed into something great through their many years - like really good wine. Music for music's sake, the way it should be.
I love how Jeff messes up the lyrics on accident and says FLA instead of TLA at 2:33 then looks at John and kinda laughs. Then he follows it with a great punk rock moment giving a nice scream basically saying "ahh who gives a shit this is fun" and then goes right back into the chorus. Jeff Tweedy is a punk rocker in the truest sense of the term. I dont mean loud fast music, I mean he doesnt care what other people will think about how he changes up musical styles with each album bcs he is making music he loves and is passionate about. That is what punk rock really is
This era is my favourite era of Wilco. Jay was out (nothing personal against him), the band wasn't really sure where to go next, they weren't as comfortable as they are now, and they made the most haunting and beautiful album of their career (AGIB).
Glenn Kotche rocks! Jeff Tweedy has the best voice in rock! The guitar and bass sounds are perfect! Best band in the world! (Sorry I'm shouting but they've got it turned up pretty loud.)
I'm getting odl enough that I respect if someone's trying to do something their way, and I may just not like it. That's the way I feel about Wilco. I have a LOT of respect for these guys. They're doing their thing and putting their heart into it. The music's too mellow, radio play music for my tastes. I give 'em credit though. I draw the exact comparison to Bruce Springsteen. Puts his heart into it, but the music is much too radio-ish for me.
@johnthebaptist93 I liked Leroy Bach on keys and stuff. Maybe this band right here and add in Nels would have been good. They sound good now, but it seems like there's ten guys in the band.
@johnthebaptist93 This is a stupid comment. First, they don't pretend to be, which is why they are not 'lead' guitarists. Second, Jeff "Jweedy" is a pretty damn good guitarist in his own right. Third, Cline would blow Bennett out of the water on guitar.... that guy is crazy good (no disrespect to the late Jay Bennett).
Just had to say quickly that it seems a bit unfair to make a blanket statement about Wilco being overrated simply based on this song--I am not the hugest fan of theirs but would say that they have progressed a fair piece since Being There (and I would never call a band that claims Nels Cline as a member overrated)
@johnthebaptist93 Hey now, Tweedy's guitar work in Ghost is Born can absolutely compare to anything Nels or Jay has ever done. Some may even go as far as to say it's better... (me) To each his own
No. I was comparing both original bands. In which case Son Volt was better by far. Wilco now has the better group of people and is even using what they have. Hope Tweedy doesn't fire everybody.
but Nels is one of the greatest guitar players in the world right now. as dictated by Rolling Stone. and I know Rolling Stone don't mean shit, but still. Nels is a god.
Not sure. I love Jay Farrar, and admire the fact that he remains a purist, but his music isn't as visceral, or as emotive, as what Tweedy is doing. Excellent lyricist, though.
This band is so overrated it is almost beyond words. I know the history of this cat. I've seen UT, I've seen Husker Du, I've been around the block. These guys have pulled the wool over the world's eyes. Kudos to them!
nonewmccarthyism - to claim a band is overrated implies that you have some almighty insight into what "good" music is . To list out bands you've seen is hardly a testament to your ability to critique a band. Ever hear the song "Rock n Roll Lifestyle" by Cake? Listen closely to the words of that song, I think they are talking about you.
Hey WilcoDad, just because I don't share your opinion, that does not make me a 'moron'. How very, very ignorant and unimpressive of you. Bummer to have to deal with it. And, my point stands: Wilco ARE severely overrated in my opinion (as are Radiohead). PS ** Do not get personal/insulting on TH-cam -- it's a rule in the agreement YOU had to fill out in order to post YOUR OWN opinions. Else, you will be reported toute suite .. Just some friendly advice. Have a great day.
Let's be careful here: Saying a band is overrated does NOT mean one has 'almighty insight'. I don't feel that I do, so it's moot anyways. But what it does mean is that the public's interest/wooing of the band is not commensurate with the bands musical prowess (MY opinion). J. Farrar's band, Son Volt, in my view, is every bit as 'good' as WIlco, but why aren't they 'all the rage'? Who the heck knows. Bands that aren't that good are nothing new in Top-40, My opinion stands: Wilco are OVERRATED

Well Glenn did a faucet commercial!
Great song and a great performance. Being There is one of my favorite albums ever. Thanks for posting!
I love watching Glenn. He gives every song his all, and looks like he's having the time of his life. Awesome!
I love all Wilco but this was my fav line-up, such a clean and intense sound.
Wilco make music, plain and simple. They have paid their dues over the past 13 years, and it shows. Music for music's sake - the way it should be.
I love the 'ol school rock and roll feel of Jeff's vocal. The band kicks major ass. Cheers, boys... Ya'll certainly rule!!!!!
Saw them live 2 days ago... HOLY SHIT THEIR DRUMMER IS GOOD! Easily the greatest I've ever seen! Flawless...
Glenn Kotche is a monster on the drums! I love it!
I love how Jeff messes up the lyrics on accident and says FLA instead of TLA at 2:33 then looks at John and kinda laughs. such a good american rock'n'roll song
i love the brass arrangements they added to monday recently!
OMG! This is even better than Friday!
He does indeed whistle.
I think that I was at this show! First Ave! Back in my drunk dazE!
This era is my favourite era of Wilco. Jay was out (nothing personal against him), the band wasn't really sure where to go next, they weren't as comfortable as they are now, and they made the most haunting and beautiful album of their career (AGIB).
AH LOVE EM!
Big Wilco.
Haha, i love how subtle you are ;)
Impresionante
Wilco IS awesome
THis was shot after he left the band but just before they signed with Nonesuch.
I was always hoping Mr. Bennett would join Son VOlt
Tweedy's voice sounds great in this performance.
hahaha good one sarcasm is still funny today!!
Actually, you can hear those brass arrangements on the album version of this song, which is on "Being There." But you're right, they are awesome! :)
@dearsarahshu totally agree. But the kids dig the new stuff. It's hip to like Wilco now.
REBEL REBEL!! WUUUUUUUUU
Well my Monday is nearly over
I only wanna go where my wheels roll
quality!
Glenn Kotche rocks! Jeff Tweedy has the best voice in rock! The guitar and bass sounds are perfect! Best band in the world! (Sorry I'm shouting but they've got it turned up pretty loud.)
You're personally insulting me with your insecurity. Wilco rocks!
@johnthebaptist93
smooth.
lalalaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
@johnthebaptist93 Leroy Bach is a good multi-instrumental person. I think he added a good vibe to the band.
Does today's Son Volt have anywhere near the musical capabilities of today's Wilco?
Their old stuff sounds better when they play it live. Especially now with Nels.
I'm getting odl enough that I respect if someone's trying to do something their way, and I may just not like it. That's the way I feel about Wilco. I have a LOT of respect for these guys. boy, that was certainly worth a 'ol "like".
Jay bennett was a legend. But nels is becoming a legend. Nels is extremely creative, and a ridiculous guitarist. they're both awesome.
hiding from the snow?
@jiha85
look again, pretty sure he whistles. maybe that's why it took you so long to "notice it"
lol
well said, but on the other hand, you got to admit, leaving a comment like the one you posted is asking for a respons that is just as subtle..
John Stiratt looks like Quentin Tarantino.
@johnthebaptist93 This is a stupid comment. First, they don't pretend to be, which is why they are not 'lead' guitarists. Second, Jeff "Jweedy" is a pretty damn good guitarist in his own right. This song lacks the punch of the other live versions I've seen with Jay et. all.

am i missing something here? i think lennydmc meant rolling stone the mag rather than the band. knuckleheads!
@lennydmc The Brian Jonestown Massacre aren't terrible.... they do have their fair share of problems though.....
@metersfan YOU CANT SHOUT ON THE INTERNET WITHOUT CAPS LOCK
@johnthebaptist93 I doubt either of them is dumb enough to disagree.
@lennydmc Fall Out Boy ain't garbage.
Although this performance could use Jay Bennett's guitar part.
5* ...

Pretty hostile comment board here. Just sit back and enjoy the music.

Wilco isn't a retro rock band.
Son Volt is better.
wow this sucks!
OMG! This is even better than Friday!
