    HI Fred. I hope this works for you. I have done this twice, once with a stuck Jaguar XKE engine. I pulled sparkplugs and let sit for two weeks. I had to rotate back and forth on the crank after it broke free, a smidge at a time until it finally rotated fully. Not only did it loosen up it actually ran and did not need rebuilding. The second time was for an aircraft engine that has individual cylinders and you cannot disassemble without rotating the crank. I filled cylinders and crankcase and let sit for a month. Same thing once the crank budged a little I worked it back and forth until fully rotated freely. I think it would have ran but since it was going in an airplane it just was fully rebuilt but the components were surprisingly in good shape. I also think that a car that sits along time and smokes sometimes has stuck rings and the diesel fuel loosens them up. Good luck with this, I don't think its crazy at all.

    I just freed up a Cadillac engine last week. Aerokroil and ATF down the cylinders through the spark plug holes then put a breaker bar on the crank and go back and forth works great. I’ve gotten some engines that were very stuck that way. If it’s really really stuck I’ve made an adapter and pumped grease down the TDC cylinder to keep pressure on it while working it back and forth. It sure does smoke if you get it running that way.

    I broke free the rusted 304 in my previous 1974 cj5. pb blaster In the two offending rusted cylinders and a few times a day in high range high gear Rock the jeep forward and back. On day 5 it rolled. I fired it up the next day after points, condenser and coil replacement. I ended up driving it all over until it was time to sell.

    50/50 mix of acetone and transmission fluid, homemade mystery oil best for loosening rusted frozen parts and effective in dissolving rust.

  • @Maxzillian
    @Maxzillian 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Years ago I unstuck a 4.2 using "Hagen Brew" which is 50/50 atf and acetone. I have my doubts about the acetone, but that engine ultimately unseized. I drained about 4 quarts of water out of the pan and put the plug back in when I saw oil.
    After a half hour of running it stopped smoking and I'll be damned if it didn't become a reliable farm rig.

I wish people like Fred and Dave and probably a whole team of hackers could take a Rivian or Hummer and do the Armageddon drill rig treatment to it just to see how much unnecessary electronics or flimsy crap could be peeled off of it to make a real electric off-roader.

    Even if it unlocks, the rings and cylinder walls are probably rusted and corroded and they will become scored up as the grind against each other, and then the oil will blow by and burn up a quart every 100 miles. What's the point?

  • @maxwellbarton8894
    @maxwellbarton8894 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe after it sits put it in 1st gear, if you can, and rock the entire chassis gently forward to get the engine to free up. I have heard stories where someone with a stuck engine towed it behind another vehicle at about 40 mph and popped the clutch in second gear. It did work after a few tries but the engine began to smoke really badly once it was running.
    Oh. I just remembered that one early Cheep Truck Challenge with the winning 83 or 84 red Chevy. Suburban where the submersion in the water filled the engine water, my guess is that an engine full of diesel won't like to try to compress that anymore than one full of water. May have to pull out the spark plugs before rotating the engine too much.
    Ah... Dirt Every Day... it was educational fun too. I wonder what ever happened to that cool Suburban?
