    Never heard of a shave horse before, but makes sense now. Every day is a school day 😊

      Thanks 😊 Saddle would be cool, just have to make sure its adjustable as you move around a lot to suit different length projects

    Good job Ash you made it look so easy good measuring makes for a good job. Not one of my strong points so appreciate seeing a job done right. Oh and that tune brings back memories of your earlier days😊

    It's so great that you built something like this yourself. Something like that never lets you down and works forever. But I think you should sit a little further back. The angle of your arms is too strong. You should be able to stretch your arms more. 💪👋

      Thanks! Yea it's definitely going to be a learning experience finding what works for me. This is why I made the bench section so long though so I can get comfortable with any task 😊

    That's a great piece of kit, used one a few times, the design, basically unchanged goes back to the Romans, that's how they made chair legs for example, so, sitting on history you are.

      You just can't beat the old ways sometimes. So simple but very effective.

    Fascinating and inspiring, when my trusty 45 year old black and decker workmate fails me i know what to do 😂. Thanks for sharing. Ever thought about the treddle powered wood lathe to complement it ?

      Haha! It was a cheap shot to be fair, they have their place 🤣 It is in fact on the list to build next...

    Incredible..., and what did it cost?
    A few bits of scrap wood and a couple hours spare time, tops..., and may be a quid or two for the bolts!
    My grandfather was a carpenter, he worked on Boot's (the chemists) building sites, and at home when I was small. I'm knocking 70 now and think I must have been a young school kid, the last time I saw one of these. Very satifying to watch ya, and made fabulous content for you.
    At your tender age lol, it would interest me to know where you know them from?

      Exactly! I love making something useful out of what is considered scrap to some people. I'm honestly not sure where I came across them, been meaning to build one for a while. Next oncthe list is a pole lathe 😊

    You probably know of those old metal, bum-shaped seats (or bum pans as we called them), with the rain holes in them, that the old farm tractors, up to about the 60s, had fitted, in fact, I can imagine your Nuffield has just such a seat! A seat like that would surely suit that "horse"?
    Come on Ash, get back on eBay....!

    • @ash.pollard
      @ash.pollard  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hahah it's not a bad idea! The only thing is it would need to be adjustable to allow different positions for different size workpieces. So if it could slide back and forth on some kind of rail it would then need a lock so can apply pressure with feet. Really, it's probably just an extra layer of "faff" to get started, would look cool though! I've just gone for a piece of foam to use on extended sessions, less interesting but works pretty well 👌
