In fact, this place is only protected as a cultural relic. Although it looks old, due to the high price of land, everyone living here is a millionaire, literally
As a Beijinger, I want to tell you that these hutongs are the most expensive real estate areas in China, and the rent is also very expensive. There are many historical sites here, and there are many ancient residences of royalty and ministers. It is also the residence of many national leaders and senior generals in modern China, as well as many rich people in China. Ma Yun, the president of Alibaba, owns a luxurious residence in ancient style in these hutongs. Because the land price here is too expensive and in order to protect many historical sites here, it is very difficult to carry out modern reconstruction projects here.
It's same as any metro city. In mumbai and delhi a tiny shoebox like house worth crores. Land is really expensive and almost impossible to buy and flats are really expensive.
Beijing's hutongs are not slums, and in fact, some hutongs may be the most expensive residential areas in China, with prices ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 RMB per square meter. This is because these hutongs are located in the center of Beijing and have been home to many famous individuals in the past. Some hutongs are even protected cultural relics. Beijing is the cultural center of China, so there is no need to deliberately construct modern buildings to prove its development. These hutongs serve as a testament to how the Chinese people lived hundreds of years ago
Clearfield some facts about Hutong in Beijing, Chine. 1. The Hutongs(old alley) is located city center as historical reserv. The old house are not allowed tear down to rebuild modern projects. 2. Some old house had exsited hundreds yare and the conditions are aged. But the properties price in Hutong are rocky high. The value of a old house equal to double or triple of the modern apartment in the neighborhoods. 3. Of course, lot of the houses are old amd aged which need to renovated and updated. The owners like to keep the old house as family heritages or childhoods memories. Or they are waiting for high price from investors. As everyone can see, there are sewers systems, running tap water, streets sanitation, street lights , no homeless, no geggars. It's not slum absolutely.
These hutongs in Beijing are the most expensive real estate areas in China, 99.99% people can not afford the price. Skyscrapers is much cheaper than it.
In Beijing, one square meter of these courtyards costs about $30,000 or $40,000, and any Siheyuan costs more than $100 million. Jackie Chan, Jack Ma have Siheyuan here. Because it was the residence of ancient princes.
It is a cultural heritage site. Only millionaires can afford to buy a house there. These people who have been living there have a choice to get millions in compensation and move to another area. But still, some people don't want to leave this place coz of memories attached to it. The Chinese government will not demolish these houses but will preserve them as ancient cultural sites. Hutongs were first built in the Yuan dynasty and continued through Ming and Qing dynasties.
This old Beijing preserved area is located in central Beijing. It is preserved by government to show old Beijing style. It is not slum but the most expensive area. All house owners are millionaires.
I know a friend of a friend who went and study Chinese in Beijing many years ago. She used to live in one of these Hutongs. In 2008 Beijing Olympics she went back to Beijing to visit and found the entire Hutong area where she used to live had been demolished and replaced with new, modern western style high rise buildings. At the time it was in fashion in China to do this as they see these Hutongs as old and backward. Fortunately, many residents protested against such destruction when it got too much. I even saw such protests in western news media. Finally the government realise that there are something worth and needs preserving so the Hutongs u see now is what's left from that time. They r extremely expensive because they r in a central area, they r cultural heritage, and they r not high rise buildings so u cant squeeze hundreds of people into the same amount of space.
@@ekanshgupta2421 Apart from the hutongs of Beijing, there is another place in China that will shock you. That place is Guangdong in the southern part of the country. In Guangdong, you will see people wearing ordinary slippers, shorts, and T-shirts, enjoying delicious and affordable dishes like stir-fried beef noodles at roadside food stalls. After their meal, they might hop into a Lamborghini parked nearby and speed away. That's because they own over a dozen buildings (yes, you read it right, buildings, not just houses) for rental purposes.
Indians think this is a poor, shabby area 🤣🤣, it's true Bollywood 🤡, India is even poorer than us Vietnam, leaving the slaves to the American imperialists, Vietnam is different from India, we I always stand with China.
The interesting thing is that many international travelers visit the Hutong area. Most of western visitors appreciated the history and how Chinese government tries to preserve a part of history in China's rapid modernization. For Indians vloggers they think this area is poor and many Indians think this is "real China" that is still poor and there are slums in Beijing. There are 2 famous "slums" in China. One is the Hutong area in Beijing. Another one is the "Urban village" in Shenzhen, and you may find in other big cities. Urban villages are not really planned as most part of Chinese cities, but the owners are also super rich.
A slum is defined as an area of housing and environment unfit for human habitation. For example, Dharavi in Mumbai is a crowded and dirty shantytown with no electricity, no water, no sanitation, no property ownership certificate, and millions of people crammed into a small space. This is called a slum. And there is electricity, water, sanitation, air conditioning, color TV, car, real estate license, Beijing courtyard with expensive house prices is not qualified to be called slum.
Don't misunderstand indian people, I personally feel proud about the rise of china because it marks the beginning of rise of Asia. I hope Asia will return to it's original position when it used to dominate the globe economically and politically. Asia needs unity to claim the status back but western tactics won't let this happen. Chinese people have suffered through a lot and I respect Chinese culture and history. This area reminds the young generation of Chinese about their roots and how far they have arrived. Love from India.

The hutongs you can see in Beijing today are deliberately preserved by the government in order to retain some "old Beijing" flavor. They are mostly located in the central areas of Beijing, where land prices are exorbitantly high. The people who live in hutongs are either native Beijing residents who have lived there for a long time or very wealthy individuals.

@@maxwilliams5941 Yes royal families in the past, nowadays each one of them is worth tens to hundreds of millions of USD and are the most expensive properties in China/the world.
the houses in Hutong are very expensive than tall buildings, but not suitable for living. Many real owners do not live inside and rent them out to ordinary people. These owners are unwilling to demolish because this is their ancestral home.moreover, they believe that with the further development of China, these dilapidated houses will continue to pay a premium as they occupy the city center.
It's not that they don't want to demolition, it's that the government doesn't allow it! The government has designated hutongs as cultural protection, which can be traded but cannot be demolished!
I don't think a Chinese man can travel alone to India so easily, freely, safe, convenience and feel so welcome by the Indians like Indian travelling in China. I remember reading report 2 years ago that New Delhi Hotel association boycott Chinese travelers and refused Chinese guests to stay in all the hotels. That is really terrible and uncivilized way to treat people who admired your country, wanted to visit your country, see your country and understand your culture. But they are disappointed when they have arrived in your country. Hope Indians will change their way of treating the Chinese after watching all the Indian vloggers showing how Indian are welcomed to travel in China without any fear, but happily enjoying their time in China. Till today, Chinese wish to see India still cannot get a tourist visa to enter India. You can google this to read more: Delhi Hotel Association to boycott Chinese goods, not provide accommodation to Chinese nationals
That's the heart of Beijing, right next to the Forbidden City. People living there, as long as they are homeowners, we have to look up to them. Any square meter of area sold is exorbitant.
My goodness, you can see that almost every resident in the alley has a net worth of hundreds of thousands or even millions of US dollars when converted from Chinese yuan.
Hutongs are buildings specially preserved by the Beijing government, because Hutong represents the traditional life of Beijing in the past. In order to protect the tradition, the government did not demolish hutongs. Houses in hutong can be traded (expensive), but not converted or demolished. If the hutong is demolished and rebuilt, it is illegal. The rent for a house in the Hutong is not very expensive, but if you want to own it, it is very expensive indeed!
The hutongs in Beijing were deliberately preserved by the Chinese government because these buildings have a history of hundreds of years and are considered historic sites, so they have not been demolished. This is a form of historical and cultural protection.
Wow even Chinese slums are so neat n clean and well maintained.. And one thing surprised me is there is no beggers in the streets and corners like in India.. We can find, cow dung, street, dogs, crow, mice n rats everywhere in garbage bin n drainage
This is not a civilian area, this is the house of Beijing locals, a very valuable area, although it looks very old, but the people who live there are not willing to demolish it😅On the other hand, it is because the land price in Beijing is very expensive, so it is kept down.
There are no slums in China. These are carefully preserved ancient buildings, each worth at least a few million dollars. These houses are at least hundreds of years old.
You are completely wrong. This is not slums like Indian's. This area is at the heart of old Beijing city, construction dated back to 13 century from Yuan Dynasty. One of my friends bought a 3-bedroom suite in 2000, paying $20 millions at the time. The living comfort level is outdated, for better preservation purpose. Owners usually not live here, but just rent them out for very low prices, to those who would like to save money by living in it without modern conveniences. I suggest you do your homework before you comment.

He was saying there are electrical cables which can't be seen in modern areas of cities and yet the hutong city is so clean and rich.
There are many large houses called Si He Yan 四合院 in Hutong. Each house was occupied by a family even loyalties long time ago. Since the current gov took over, they distributed these houses to many people, say a house occupied by 10 families. Then each family had very little space. So they built extra from time to time which caused the houses lost architecture styles. That's why you saw the small alleyways in Hutong. Actually these extras were built in the garden of the old Si He Yan 四合院。Now some Hutongs have been recovered with its original look by relocating residents elsewhere n remove the non architectural style late built extras. But where you went seems still not happed recovering yet except some degree of recovery in the last one with a party. .

Wow, your channel's subscription has doubled since the day you started China trip. When I first watched yours, there was only about 47k.
the houses in Hutong are very expensive than tall buildings, but not suitable for living.
When you think these houses are cheap but after you get the real price of them... Your jaw drop cos its cost millions dollar 😂
😂😂yup
Beautiful & Developed China 💯

你在开玩笑!拥有这里一套四合院,身价上亿
I would trade my three apartments in Singapore for such a hutong house
You mean tens of millions to hundreds of millions in USD, only China's richest people can afford these, Jack Ma has a hutong style residence.

Love you brother ❤🎉 from NEPAL 🇳🇵
Bhai 100k subscribers ke liye Advance me congratulations 🎉🎉
The hutongs in Beijing were deliberately preserved by the Chinese government because these buildings have a history of hundreds of years and are considered historic sites, so they have not been demolished. This is a form of historical and cultural protection.
M from Assam... Bahut badhiya videos banate ho ap..lv it
Love you brother love from odisha.india
The renting cost for a small house in Hutong is much more expensive than renting a condo in Beijing.
@@junyin5950safely multiple 10 with its price in usd
You are completely wrong. This is not slums like Indian's.
This area is at the heart of old Beijing city, construction dated back to 13 century from Yuan Dynasty. One of my friends bought a 3-bedroom suite in 2000, paying $20 millions at the time.
The living comfort level is outdated, for better preservation purpose. Owners usually not live here, but just rent them out for very low prices, to those who would like to save money by living in it without modern conveniences.
I suggest you do your homework before you comment.
@@ParkerAt941 .. Sorry for my mistaken.. Usually in India we have that mentality of thinking that type of structure as slums..

A lot of westerners like hutong, where they found a special charm.

哈哈 胡同除了值钱,一无是处,新改建的那些挺好,就是贵
I will translate it for you, he was saying that people in hutong live in old fashioned small houses but they have cameras, expensive cars like BMW and all, he was shocked why they soo damn rich.
But where you went seems still not happed recovering yet except some degree of recovery in the last one with a party. .
