I cant believe this zone will be 14 years old this year... So many memories in this place. It's kinda bland compared to other zones, but it managed to capture a very unique feeling that was just awesome. A lot of that was probably the music, it's definitely the best music in Northrend. I loved all the lore in the zone too, the pre-cataclysm worgen, the old gods and that special tree, and how it tied in to the really awesome troll zone to the north.
Lore time! That big tree is Vordrassil (formerly Andrassil meaning "Crown of the Snow", renamed Vordrassil meaning "Broken Crown" in Darnassian), another world tree like Teldrassil and Nordrassil (The big tree in Hyjal.) It was planted by Fandral Staghelm and his druids from a branch taken from Nordrassil in an attempt to stave off the corruption of saronite (which, as we find out in Wrath of the Lich King, is ore made of Yogg-Saron's blood.) However, much like Teldrassil, it did not receive the dragon aspect's blessing, and so it was susceptible to corruption. Due to its close proximity to Yogg-Saron, it was easily corrupted by him and in an attempt to stop Yogg-Saron's corruption from reaching the Emerald Dream, Staghelm and his druids destroyed the tree; however, its roots had managed to breech Yogg-Saron's prison, and the Furbolg that took residence within the trunk of the tree were driven mad.
I haven’t played WoW in a decade and I think about this Zone and my first time in it all the time. The music and ambience is unmatched. Thank you for sharing!
When I was in high school I used to go to the most peaceful zones (to me) in wow, turn down the music and just chill and listen to the ambience... those were the days :')
You might just have cured my fear of this zone =D it was one of my favourites - the visuals, the amazing sounds, and the bear Druid lore. But you see one week I spent some time trying to tame Arcturis back in WoTLK days. 7 days, no luck. I was due to go to the airport and go on holiday with my then girlfriend - first time flying on our own. And I stupidly stayed up until 4am (had to be up 6:30am). Well my patience paid off!!! There he was in his magnificent transparent glory - the tame bar was half way full and then... my mouth falls open... Arcturis' corpse was in front of me, with an Orc player "kek"ing away at me. I couldn't believe it, and it would drive me nuts all holiday! And I don't think I've stepped foot in that zone again since 😅😭 but this video is so relaxing and brain tingly. I might just make it back now. Hard to believe how many years ago that was, when I was just an ickle teenager 😅
Such a gorgeous zone. I've seen so many people when they retire from the game, record their "final" video of their character in this zone. Very peaceful
One thing I can always give blizzard credit for is their music in game. The music in Grizzly Hills, the music on the ship when zoning into Howling Fjord and Wintergrasp is some of the best in the game in my opinion.

Grizzly Hills without the music should be considered a crime punishable by electric chair. One of the best songs in the game hands down.
