    • @edvinlam200
      @edvinlam200 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      It is a translation issue if you don't translate technical terms correctly. She's talking about what people in the English mechanical keyboard community refer to as a blue switch, red switch, etc. There might be some ambiguity whether she's referring to only Cherry MX or other similar switches like Kailh and Gaterons, but in that case translating it to just "red switches" is often understood as any light linear switch similar to Cherry MX Reds.

      Solution: Buy a separate numpad with blues. Not that expensive, doesn't take up much room, actually quite useful to be able to move it around your workspace, and they usually have extra keys for true one-handed data entry.

    also, the ‘normal’ kb she was talking about refers to probably rubber dones, and the simultaneous key press thing is key-rollover. Rubber domes only have 2-key rollover, so if you’re pressing shift, and trying to walk diagonally it would not work’

    • @absalomdraconis
      @absalomdraconis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Rubber domes are capable of having as much rollover support as the manufacturer can be bothered to include, and I vaguely recall that there are some with 4 or 5 key rollover. The only reason they don't often have decent rollover specs is because they're budget models, so the manufacturers can't be bothered with the extra wires.

    • @ThomasNing
      @ThomasNing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      the keyboard she uses uses topre switches, which in fact are rubber dome based switches, but topre keyboards also always have n-key rollover. And rubber dome keyboards with 6-key rollover are very common too.

      Rubberdomes can go up to 6 key rollover actually. What kind of keyboard you use that only allows 2? (well, the 6 is indeed limited, and you have to find a certain combination of 6 to work, like in my keyboard something like Shift+Up+Right can't work indeed, but Q+ W+E+I+O+P works)

    Topre is gourmet shit. I don't think it's for everyone, but for those who love Topre, they really do love it to death. People who frequent Japan is fortunate to get their hands on those Topre at a reasonable cost. Overseas, the few available ones are all online and all of them charge sky high price on top of the already retail price in Japan. I own 2 Filco, both Bluetooth but while they are tough, they are not as tough as people usually brag about. Don't move them around too much like I did. Some of the keys have occasionally become unresponsive and the KB disconnects. If you have the dough, get one with Topre, RealForce is the most accessible but HHKB and Leopold are the real shits when it comes to Topre. If you do a lot of writing or programming, having a enjoyable typing experience on a mechanical keyboard is a real treat that you would miss when you had to revert to the usual disappointing rubber dome and laptop KB.

    La Lion was talking about N-key rollover. You'd want one that's very high in that.

      Go have lunch with some accountants, we use the term "ten-key" exclusively and in a geeky and proud way -- both for the actual calculating device and for the number pad on a keyboard. "Numeric pad" sounds too formal to my ears. First time hearing the term "tenkeyless" though.
      Having that kind of background, any laptop or keyboard that doesn't have the ten key is an automatic deal breaker for me. I almost won't even consider it. So I search for "in-between" keyboards like Botan does, but with the opposite filter of having the ten key.
