Well…there are many towns around Mexico that were founded by Italian immigrants and one is very close to Val’Quirico! If you go to Cholula, there’s a town nearby called Chipilo which was founded by immigrants from the Veneto region in northern Italy. They speak Veneto to this day and they have many gastronomic options all over town and a beautiful Italian church in the centre of town. I love going on Saturday or Sunday mornings to get breakfast, walk around and play bocce with the old folks in the bocce court, then get lunch and people watch and get some gelato and buy some amazing cheeses, butter, polenta, salame, and milk to take home! All top quality foods made there! It has its own charm. Val’Quirico is a cool little town, it is actually now called a “kingdom” and they’re making a new one in the Guadalupe Valley near Ensenada called “Sassi Del Valle” which has been twined with Matera in southern Italy and they plan to make many more. Honestly, Val’Quirico is very well planned out. Love that it’s pedestrian and the housing area is beautiful, it’s one of the most beautiful spots in Tlaxcala. Sadly, when you leave the area towards Puebla, you can tell you’re back there because there rubbish all over the roads and everything looks terrible until you get to Cholula or Angelopolis or downtown Puebla. So sad really. Wish people took better care of their surroundings.
Before people come at me with “it’s not real etc…” yeah, no sh!t Sherlock! It’s a housing development that has actually been very well planned out and I’ve lived in Italy many times of my life as my family is originally Italian and I’m Mexican living in my native Morelia! Just an FYI!

Chipilo stands out from the rest because it has preserved the Veneto language to this day. There’s a gastronomic corridor in central Chipilo where you can try amazing pizzas, pastas, and so many dairy products since the town is famous for their cheeses and gelato! They have hotels and everything but it’s also very close to Cholula so it’s a quick Uber/taxi drive there. The little hill in downtown is called the Monte Grappa which has much history as it is where the chipileños fought off revolutionary rebels trying to steal the women. There’s a little museum in the city hall, a theatre (Casa d Italia) and many other attractions but food is the main draw today! There are many towns that preserved their ethnic backgrounds from Italy, Spain, France, Japan, Germany, American Mormon, Mennonite, China, England, Lebanon, etc…still today around the country. I gotta say Chipilo is one of my favourites, having Italian background myself
Thank you for exposing Val Quirico, I don’t understand the purpose of the development , I lived in Italy for years and do not see the alikeness. I travel to Mexico to experience the rich Culture of the Mexican people just like when I return to Italia. Thanks again , Happy travels.
Well you travel to Mexico to see Mexico, Val’Quirico is mainly for locals who want to experience a little piece of Italy nearby. So it’s not for everybody but it is for many since the project has been very successful.
Val'Quirico is picturesque and reasonably well done, much better than some wannabes that I have seen. If on a budget I'd pack a lunch. The real Italian town is a few miles southwest of the city of Puebla. Chipilo is about 140 years old and has a population of about 3000. Not a Disneyland town, but the inhabitants still speak "Chipilo Venetian", the Treviso variant of Venetian, a separate Romance language. Italian customs still prevail in spite of pressure from the outside, and unlike the variant spoken in Italy the Chipilo variant remains little changed.
Wow. Perfect little escape to a make believe Tuscan village. Purists will criticize it but I thinks its fine. Im curious if you guys will make a vid about El Grito. "Like"
It’s definitely a strange concept for a town in Mexico, and I could see why some would be bothered by it. But personally we found it SO cool! As far as the grito goes, we’ll let you in on a little secret 🫢 we’ll be at the big one in CDMX! Get excited for next Friday when we post our video!

If you are a tourist and you are in mexico city or estado de mexico, beat transportation would be bus and a taxi. If you are in another far away estate then airplane.

While Val’Quirico is a part of Tlaxcala. Tlaxcala is unique in culture and cuisine. Wish y’all would have gotten to know Tlaxcala better :(
