I’m sure I’m not the only one struck by the remarkable contrast between these Israeli soldiers and their enemies, who intentionally put civilians in harm’s way and _want_ to get them killed. These Israeli soldiers tormented by regret and guilt because, in the confusion of battle, their actions led to the deaths of some of the hostages they were trying to rescue. Of course, we know they are not to blame. They did not bring that vicious attack to Be’eri. They were risking their lives to save civilians; Hamas and its allies are the cause. On the other side, Hamas and the other terrorists use human shields to protect their weapons and fighters, knowing Israel will go to enormous lengths to minimize harm to civilians.

I have been fiercely defending Israel against criticism that Israel caused casualties on Oct7, not only is this an awful tragedy for these individuals its a betrayal of Israel and their allies.
I don’t see it that way, how could the IDF in all that confusion not have hurt a single civilian?! A stray bullet etc that is not the point, the point is that every decision made by Israel and its people was to save as many lives as possible, to resist and expel a superior force with a well planned out assault. It’s tragic but war is tragic. During ww2 the allies had to bomb France to prepare D-day, they were afraid that the French would take grievance but the French resistance said to the allies (much to their surprise) : it’s war we have to accept that people are going to die. Israel was attacked and it is at war, and we cannot judge the army’s actions that day because they all tried and made decisions as best they could to save lives. It’s very sad, and it must be very hard for a people that believes that saving a life it’s like saving the world, to know that our decisions and actions didn’t save everyone and that you hurt people. They were put in a situation were all control was lost and only left people making life or death decisions for hours and hours. It’s not a bretrayal it’s a sign of strength that they are talking about this.

I did see a fascinating vid here of 13 different elder Palestinian Arabs, one of them Mahmoud Abbas actually, all talking about how it was the Arab leaders who told them to leave in 1948, with varying reports that it would only take a few hours, a day or two, or no longer than two weeks, sit tight before they would defeat the Jewish armies and murder enough civilians for it to be ready for Palestinians to come back home to a land completely ethnically cleansed of Jews. They were that confident they were going to win, but instead had their a**es handed to them and the poor Palestinians lost out. Officially, around about 130-150,000 Palestinians were 'expelled' by the Israelis (and that would be mostly households/militants who lived on Israeli borders, in an effort to create something of a safe zone against the Arab militants who wanted to kill them). The other 600,000 either fled in fear or were told to leave by their leaders, on assurance they would soon return. There are archived records showing newspaper announcements and radio announcements were made in Arabic to the local Arab population to leave, and that their war would all be over in a jiffy. Did you ever bother to learn about the 850-900,000 Jews who were expelled from all the neighbouring Arab countries in 1948 after the Arab League declared war on Israel the day after it was established? I’m sure I’m not the only one struck by the remarkable contrast between these Israeli soldiers and their enemies, who intentionally put civilians in harm’s way and _want_ to get them killed.
These Israeli soldiers tormented by regret and guilt because, in the confusion of battle, their actions led to the deaths of some of the hostages they were trying to rescue.
Of course, we know they are not to blame. They did not bring that vicious attack to Be’eri. They were risking their lives to save civilians; Hamas and its allies are the cause.
On the other side, Hamas and the other terrorists use human shields to protect their weapons and fighters, knowing Israel will go to enormous lengths to minimize harm to civilians.

I have been fiercely defending Israel against criticism that Israel caused casualties on Oct7, not only is this an awful tragedy for these individuals its a betrayal of Israel and their allies.
I don’t see it that way, how could the IDF in all that confusion not have hurt a single civilian?! A stray bullet etc that is not the point, the point is that every decision made by Israel and its people was to save as many lives as possible, to resist and expel a superior force with a well planned out assault. It’s tragic but war is tragic. During ww2 the allies had to bomb France to prepare D-day, they were afraid that the French would take grievance but the French resistance said to the allies (much to their surprise) : it’s war we have to accept that people are going to die. Israel was attacked and it is at war, and we cannot judge the army’s actions that day because they all tried and made decisions as best they could to save lives. It’s very sad, and it must be very hard for a people that believes that saving a life it’s like saving the world, to know that our decisions and actions didn’t save everyone and that you hurt people. They were put in a situation were all control was lost and only left people making life or death decisions for hours and hours. It’s not a bretrayal it’s a sign of strength that they are talking about this.

I did see a fascinating vid here of 13 different elder Palestinian Arabs, one of them Mahmoud Abbas actually, all talking about how it was the Arab leaders who told them to leave in 1948, with varying reports that it would only take a few hours, a day or two, or no longer than two weeks, sit tight before they would defeat the Jewish armies and murder enough civilians for it to be ready for Palestinians to come back home to a land completely ethnically cleansed of Jews. They were that confident they were going to win, but instead had their a**es handed to them and the poor Palestinians lost out. Officially, around about 130-150,000 Palestinians were 'expelled' by the Israelis (and that would be mostly households/militants who lived on Israeli borders, in an effort to create something of a safe zone against the Arab militants who wanted to kill them). The other 600,000 either fled in fear or were told to leave by their leaders, on assurance they would soon return. There are archived records showing newspaper announcements and radio announcements were made in Arabic to the local Arab population to leave, and that their war would all be over in a jiffy.
Did you ever bother to learn about the 850-900,000 Jews who were expelled from all the neighbouring Arab countries in 1948 after the Arab League declared war on Israel the day after it was established? Some call it the Forgotten Exodus. Jews were forced to leave the countries they called home, like Iraq (Baghdad used to be 25% Jewish, did you know?), Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Yemen, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco - all cast out under threat of death by the Muslim Arab leaders. This is why Israel is the only Middle Eastern country with any more than a handful or a few families of Jews. It wasn't always thus.
