    The thread is a sturdy cotton yarn. Cotton glacé made by Rowan yarns. I wanted a strong cotton because the band I am weaving was made into a guitar strap. The guitar straps are illustrated in my book Weaving Patterned Bands publishes by Schiffer Press and available on Amazon.
    Happy weaving

    Very helpful, thanks! I have a question though, what kind of thread are you using? I have tried weaving with thin yarn but it gets really tangled

    Can you tell me about your band width checker? Looks like a very clever contraption!

    • @durhamsilkweaver
      @durhamsilkweaver  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Taylor the band width checker is a simple piece of folded plastic. There are holes at the open sides through which a tie can be threaded. It is a simple way of checking if you are weaving an even width along the length of the band. My original ones were made from plastic milk containers but they are difficult to fold. I use a thin transparent plastic sheet and stick a piece of graph paper on one side. the top of the checker is clear. This means that I have a guide to the width of the band.

    Thank you for this video that accompanies your book, which I now have...I noticed that the majority of the book is based on using a double slotted heddle, a backstrap loom, and a shuttle. Will I be able to use the majority of patterns with my Inkle? I'm getting confused as to what adjustments I might have to make in the actual weaving...thanks for taking the time to respond, as I am a new weaver, and would like to understand if this book will work for me.

      Hello Barbara. Yes my book shows how the Sunna double slotted heddle makes patterned band weaving easier. However all the patterns will work on an inkle loom as my video shows.
      For the double slotted heddle the threading is straightforward as you have to follow the order of the slots and holes. On an inkle loom the threading is also straightforward as the threads go in order through a heddle and then unhedged. I find that it helps to note down the threading before you start as I always thread the centre pattern thread though a heddle.
      Originally pick up patterned band weaving would have used a standard heddle - only long slots and holes which correspond to an inkle heddle and unhedged. The specialist heddle was devised to make patterned band weaving easier to learn and quicker to do. I hope this helps. Good luck with your weaving.

    Hej! I love this pattern so much. Is there a place where I can find the set-up for this threads on the loom please? Can I find it in your book? greetings

      Hello. Yes this pattern is in my book Weaving Patterned Bands How to Create and Design with 5, 7, & 9 pattern threads. Published by Schiffer Books in 2018 - available from Amazon or direct from Schiffer in the USA.The actual pattern is on pages 128 - 129. I was weaving a guitar strap so I used my inkle loom so that I could beat firmly. The yarn is a sturdy cotton glacé made by Rowan yarns. There are over 140 patterns in my book. m

    My Inkle Loom is not a floor model. Can I still work this on my loom? Sorry if this sounds like a silly question but I’m new to weaving.

      Yes of course. No problem. if you are new to weaving I hope that you will enjoy the learning process and become as hooked as I am on the lovely patterns that you can make.
