Congrats. Haven't made the drive to hunt MO. before. Already in the foothills just south of the MO. line, so don't know that it makes much sense for me. They have skunked me so far this year. On the brighter side my oldest daughter got her first deer on Sunday of the AR. youth hunt. Hope your season keeps on going good. I know I'll be out their looking to change my fortunes.
Just subscribed. I bowhunt public in Arkansas. I’m 64 been doing it many years. Nothing like getting one of those good public land bucks with bow! Great video.
Awesome video! Looking forward to the video on reading a Topo and understanding wind currents. I downloaded your podcast with southern outdoors and me and my son listened to it while hunting WRR this week. Definitely an eye opener for me
awesome man, im 41 and just started getting hard into hunting deer and hog on public land for now... looking to get a private land lease or hookup lol.... got my first boar on the 19th this month... ive been fishing hard for 15 years, now its time to hunt. just bought a climber and learning the ropes. good luck out there man
Hey man I have a crazy question. I'm not real good with reading a topo map. Could you possibly do a video of how you read one. If it ain't a problem. And where's the best place to find topo maps. Awesome video by the way.
@@CliftonDenneyOnYourOwnOutdoors I have a few pieces of public i picked out to hunt on. what features are you looking for? would you mind taking a look? Up in PA the BIG WOODS is much easier to lay out to cyber scout. Appreciate any help. Thanks
Great video and congrats! Would love to see a video of you further explaining your topo map scouting with some sort of drawing to show hypothetical wind directions and scenarios. What sort of elevation changes are you looking at with these saddles?
@@CliftonDenneyOnYourOwnOutdoors shoot not to far/ hit me up if you ever make your way towards winona mo, your def hunting my kinda hill country for sure/ lots of hills lots of land and lots of clearcuts, deer down here don’t have specific bedding areas from what I gather you never know where they going to be
Awesome job! Congratulations on a hammer of a MO public land buck! What area are you in? Me and some buddies hunt in and around Reynolds county. Looks very much like that area.
I like how you just admit to trimming limbs on public lol I don’t know if I’d post that on a video on line my guy.. Also directly downwind but your in hills mid morning with rising thermals….
@@CliftonDenneyOnYourOwnOutdoorsno in Missouri you CAN NOT trim limbs on public land! I know most do it but wouldn’t admit it on video then show it! Nice shot though.
This looks like a leeward side of the ridge you were hunting. I know you mentioned you usually like to hunt the windward side. We’re you on the windward side of the ridge out in front of you the morning before and moved over to the leeward side because of the deer you saw the day before? Also, not trying to call you a liar so please don’t take it that way but from your breath it looks like you shot the deer just before he got downwind, he was traveling along the ridge where it looked like your wind was going out over the bottom. Am I seeing that right?
I don’t take it that way at all! In this situation I really was not paying any mind to the wind whatsoever the taller strip of trees had less briars in them so that is where I intentionally wanted to set up based off of the topo map the day before when I came in I walked past the stand of trees and set up there and noticed the deer were moving through the stand of trees there were scrapes along the top of the ridge. Crossing these stand of trees If you watch the beginning of the video my wind is pulling straight out in front of me blowing right towards the stand of pines that I am talking about (where the deer exits the video) however watch during the phone call after the shot where the wind is pulling up towards the bucks location is when I shot. Typically I do hunt the Windward side but like everything is most certainly situational dependent in this situation I was using more of land structure and topo map rather than wind. Idk if that hits what you’re saying I’m not let me know and I’ll adjust to the statement.
@@CliftonDenneyOnYourOwnOutdoors no need for that I heard along time ago they use to do that I did not know it was a product did not see it until the end of the video..I watched the video what it was.........
