- Happy 4th of July Baby Kiln Opening!
This one is short but sweet and packed with lots of great information.
First time trying the super popular Frozen Pond technique and it was a fail… or was it? You decide. Thanks to Kathy McGuire who first shared this glaze idea!
The new Speedball colors look great on the test plate and I will be doing more testing and an in depth comparison to the existing Speedball underglaze colors.
Finally I share the super cute Lemon Bread Plate which I made and glazes in recent tutorials that you can find on ClayShare.com
Firing info:
Those pieces were fired to cone 5 on medium speed with a 1 hour and 30 minute preheat then a 18 minute hold at the end in an L&L DLH11-DX test kiln.
Beautiful test bowl. I often make second tests using the accent colors as main colors, and the main ones as accent …
It gives an idea of how the different colors behave in the same conditions. And it can make a nice set! Have a nice day 😊
Great suggestion!
Hope you and your family are as well as can be at this difficult time💕💕
Thank you.🙏🏻
Love the toast and lemon plate. It turned out amazing!
Thank you! I am loving the toast/bread cutter from Debi!! I can’t stop making plates with them! lol
I have no idea what the frozen pond technique is so I am just looking at a stunning bowl. I realize that when you have a plan and it doesn't work out that sometimes that all you see is failure. But no, that is a beautiful bowl. ♥️
I’m glad you like it, I think it’s beautiful too! ☺️
The effect is still there…. I do really like it.
Thank you, it’s subtle but still pretty.☺️
Jessica I think these are beautiful I loved all three of them. Iv never seen the pond version being made look forward to seeing this one day in class. Good job n I hope you and your family are doing as good as you can be ❤❤
Thank you so much!🙏🏻❤️
I had better definition of the RHC dots by using two or 3 coats and putting them between the obsidian and the top glaze. Your bowl still looks awesome!
Thanks for the advice. I’m going to glaze another bowl and fire it today, I’ll share how it turns out.☺️
Love to see a kiln opening from you!
I know this is just a baby one but I’ll have a big kiln open soon!
I love the bowl Jess!❤
Thanks!❤️
It's really lovley
That’s an awfully beautiful “fail”. 😊
Thank you, it’s a great bowl shape and even though it’s not what I planned I do like it.☺️
Love it all!!!
Thank you!
I like it
☺️
I use Spectrum 1511 Black as the base (it's cheaper than Amaco Obsidian), then use 2 coats of sponge Running Hot Chowder, then whatever glaze I want on top. or not. RHC does coolness with 1511.
HAPPY 4TH
Happy 4th!
Morning Jess!
Morning!
I really like the burnt orange. The lilac is nice too. What’s your favorite?
I really like the burnt orange too. It’s so hard to pick a favorite maybe after some more tests I’ll have one.😁
I find that 2 coats of obsidian works better, less color is absorbed by that dark glaze
Thanks for the advice! I’m going to try it with 2 coats.☺️
Hi there try,
Base glaze 3x
Running hot chowder sponge dots 3x on the dots add the contrast glaze 3 x
I love obsidian base with indigo float dots. Cone #6
Use ust 2 coats of obsidian. If you are sponge painting the other two colors you may need three dots as the sponge tends to be more uneven. If brushing use two coats of each
I did do 3 coats of the obsidian and I think that is one of the reasons why it didn’t turn out. I’m going to do another today with only 2 coats of the obsidian.☺️
I don’t remember when you made that bowl
I thought it was Obsidian the RHC then 2x Iron luster
I think is preety
Thanks! So do I. It’s not what I was going for but still a great bowl!
I wish everyone would stop using the word fail!! It’s so overused now, for just about everything
I agree! Did this bowl fail as a frozen pond glaze, yes, is it a great bowl, yes. So a fail and not a fail.😁
