Thanks for uploading in a difficult time - glad you guys are safe and hoping IGN staff and the building get through this as painlessly and without injury or damages as possible. Normally when forest fires are in California we get all the smoke in Nevada where I'm at, (thankfully not this time... yet) so I can confirm what Sam said - breathing in smoky air is harder and bad for your health, but the smell is what they don't always mention - it's dizzying and unpleasant, like a mix of burnt wood and chemicals. I can only imagine how much more concentrated it is near you guys now.
I like when they invite guests, but it's also not something that needs to happen every episode or even often - I'm happy to watch just them 3, but at least occasional 4th would be nice :)
Oh man I’ve made a similar comment before, but Daemon’s sound effects for introducing Game of the Year Watch(or in this case Decade) makes me way happier than it ought to.
Crazy how many comments forgot that BotW came out in the 2010s. Incredible game, no doubt (potentially game of its decade), but it ain’t from this decade!
Considering Justin’s description for managing a bunch of little guys running around and automation I wonder if he’s a fan of the classic Lemmings, Worms (Digital Eclipse did an amazing release JUST like Atari 50th anniversary collection with documentary footage and documents), and ALSO Rollercoaster Tycoon CLASSIC. Those have oddly been my favorite games being 35 (36 soon!). I find I really enjoy thr hybrid of retro games and these modern collections which not only give quality of life improvements but have video clips and let you explore at your own pace. My taste in games changed a lot from 2020 to early 2025. I used to not want to sit and watch long cut scenes but now I really love sitting back for a few minutes and getting absorbed in a story (sometimes a documentary). All those games I mentioned - especially Worms 2 Armageddon and Roller Coaster Tycoon (1 & 2) still hold up perfectly. They are original in concept and controls with a distinct pixel art style perfected on the brink of 3D graphics being perfected on other games. I know Railroad Tycoon and other games exist SIMILAR to RCR but none of them have the perfect simplicity and relative complexity balanced the same as RCR! I would still recommend RCR Classic to anyone who likes management style games - probably more simple than Factorio. For simple to learn couch co-op when you don’t have a ton of time to show a friend a big new game I think Worms maintains that easy to learn with depth to master and chaotic fun and humor which are perfect for busy adults and families imo. Happy New Year Guys! Glad to see you’re all still kicking and safe from the wild fires. Truly appreciate the team and behind the scenes crew really stepping up to bring this weeks SCOOP! 2025 will best 2024!
Sam thank you for the Indiana Jones cog ⚙️ tip. I had taken a break from the game because I was stuck on the cog puzzle and I was going for 100%. Thank you!
Thanks for the episode this week guys! When they brought up Elden Ring in 20 Questions I had the thought Daemon might have trolled and made Shadow of the Erdtree the "game" for this week's answer.
My most wanted features are... 1. Native online chat without the use of a phone app. I'd love Discord support! 2. Some kind of trophy/achievement support 3. Gamecube games on NSO 4. Patches for Switch games to look/run better, even if there's a charge for them. 5. More multimedia support for things like Spotify, Netflix, etc.
I had no idea IGN was in California for some reason. You guys stay safe, okay? Those fires are no joke. Love from the east coast and all our snow storms
HQ offices for US are in San Francisco. There is still a pretty large gaming company concentration in this area. Though in the last 5 years this has reduced a bit.
The Lenovo Legion Go has a controller that can come off and becoming a mouse for FPS games, so it's not a new invention by nintendo, I'll be curious if they have a patent on it
Games of the Decade (in order): 1) Elden Ring with DLC 2) BG3 with all updates 3) Cyberpunk 2077 with Phantom Liberty and 2.0 updates. Elden Ring is the greatest game ever made IMO and I've been gaming for 30 years.
You need a PC to play HL:A but it is super easy to connect to your Quest. I think ign needs a VR journalist that actually likes VR. VR just isn’t for everybody, so I would rather hear from an enthusiast than from people that suffer from motion sickness.
If you include it's DLC, but even probably if not, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is my game of the decade with TotK coming in a fairly distant second. It's such a shame people are put off by the visual style, it has an incredible battle system, stunning world, amazing story and characters, and hands down the best soundtrack of the decade by far. Too many people sleep on those games, it's such a shame.
Agreed. I had planned to suggest this game as well. I have had a lot of great hours just grinding through the islands of the Erythia Sea zone. Yo ho ho it the pirates life for me.
I completely agree with Sam that a condensed version of Octopath Traveler 2 is the only way I'd play through it. After loving the intro section for the Samurai in the 3 hour demo, the game just started to feel spread really thin (as with many massive games) and there was no interesting story for many hours after it. If the majority of the game was like the Samurai characters intro (or more like classics such as FFVI,) I'd be way more into it.
Worth pointing out that, while OT2 absolutely deserved an 8 or or higher, Daemons answer to that question was incorrect as Seth gave it a 7 for some reason 😅
@@dementedavenger2784GOW is much, much better than Ragnarok. A consistent theme with PlayStation this decade. Spider-Man 1 was also much better than 2.
Daemon has very Daemie games on the list. Funny to see him vehemently disagree with Ragnarok but have Ghost of Tsushima on the list. Nothing wrong with liking it, it’s a great game, but was not nearly popular or innovative enough to make a list like this.
the Switch 2 WILL not do 4k. A low cost, low power handheld cannot do 4k. PC handhelds which have MUCH more power and cost MUCH more cannot even do this yet. People need to massively recalibrate their expectations for what the Switch 2 can do. Technology isn't even close to being able to do that kind of computing with a 20 watt chip. People don't understand how little power the chip needs to consume in order to have ANY battery life and what kind of constraints that puts on the chip.
Glad Animal Crossing got a well deserved mention in this conversation. Never going to win but cozy games never get mentioned in these types of GOTY or GOTD rankings and AC was too culturally relevant to pass over. IMO.
Burnout Takedown!!!!! Prolly my favorite game from my childhood, we rented it once from Blockbuster. And Immediately had to beg my mom to buy this for me for months hahahahah, it was such a great game for us as kids and friends, always passed the controller with em too🤣🤣
Can’t believe no mention of Genshin Impact. Not my cup of tea, but easily one of the defining games of the current era. For better or (mostly) for worse.
The revisionist history is crazy. Ragnarok has an average score of 94, higher rated and sold better than Rebirth. And The Last of Us Part 2 has a 93, ten points higher than Ghost of Tsushima, and they both sold about the same number of copies.

Maybe you already know this, but Genki was able to show off "Switch 2" accessories at CES because the Switch 2 blueprints CAD files leaked some months ago and with those blueprints, they're able to know the exact Switch 2 dimensions (that's where all the 3D printed mockups have come from). Since Genki is not licensed by Nintendo, they obtained these CAD files the same way other accessory makers have done (like DBRAND) and created their own accessories and mockups in an effort to attract attention to their product. Genki (or DBRAND or one of them) said you could buy a Switch 2 (or maybe they meant the CAD files) on the black market if you knew where to look.
