  • August 2011, Maryland, USA. Mbe Tazi speaks of the history of Ékpè in Bangwa region, Cameroon, the relation of his people with the Cross River “Ekoi” (Banyang and Éjághám), as well as the Bamileke to the east. He speaks of Robert Brain, an anthropologist who studied in his father’s compound in the 1960s and wrote several books, including "The Bangwa of West Cameroon: a brief account of their history and culture" (London: University College, 1967).

The history of Ekpe is so multiple, it boils down to who and where you ask.

It's such a delight to listen to this narration, thank you Sisseko Mbe Tazi for this history which we in Uruan inyang Atakpò can relate with and thank you Obong Mbakara Ivor for making this possible. If I may ask its a historical fact that the Uruan people of the present Akwa ibom state of Nigeria with Ekpe had more than a strong presence in Idombi..Usakedet in the south west of Cameroon, could we have such a recollection by the elders in that area of this ? Part of my Family's name in Uruan is NDIAN and am aware NDIAN is also the name of a community in the south west of Cameroon...any correlation? Oyei oyei Oyei baab Mkpe !

If am right Sesekou in Efik is Iyamba Ekpe, the problem and having here is an Iyamba Ekpe does not live outside his village or town.
