Randy, your dad’s horizontal hive looks great. When you told your dad that you loved him it brought back memories to me of my dad. This year will be 25 years since he passed away. Always tell them that you love them because you never know when it will be the last opportunity to do so!

It's good to have those heartfelt moments on camera/voice recording. Can always go back and hear it again. 😀 I remember telling my Grandpa " love you" and he said it back. He ALWAYS would say "Yeah." or "We love you too.", meaning he & my Grandma. The 1 time he said "I" instead of "we" was HUGE! It took a minute to sink in and I called my mom and told her- she asked "Are you sure he didn't say 'We love you'?" (My mom was in her 50's and never heard him say I love you- always was WE love you.) If it wasn't already, that day cemented that I'm his favorite. 😍

My bees 🐝 almost made it to spring. The last hard freeze took them out. I went into fall with a small amount of bees so I was pleased to see them last as long as they did. They were robbed out during dearth last summer and never recouped their numbers.

I miss the south! The early springs were always my favorite. I'm in Maine now. It was 65⁰f today. We broke the record for the high, but tomorrow it will be 25 and snowy!

My wife is from Michigan and when we were up there visiting her family, I bought an ice scraper at a local store. Nothing like they sell down here in Texas. It was an awesome ice scraper for about 10 years (probably used it 3 times), but last year in the snowpocalypse, when I was trying to chip away at some thick ice, it finally broke. Great video!

Good to see that hive in action. Bees were flying in central New Hampshire today at 56 degrees, 12 tonight. Wind is howling now, getting cold. That slush out there is solid now and they say 10-15" by Friday. Ya ya. Keep the old man moving. Do good deeds

Good to see your Dad out enjoying the day and his Bees. I went into winter with eight hives I don’t no how many have made it, will be checking on them in a couple weeks here in Missouri. About 3/8 inch of sleet on the ground here this morning. And more ice or sleet expected today.
That beautiful hive is right up there on my wish list along with trying an AZ hive. My spring bees were just as clueless this week when I inspected them. Come June they'll hand me my behind trying to sting me, I know.

Hey Dirtrooster. You know you're _not_ in the south when you use your ice scraper on the glare of ice that has turned your windshield into bathroom glass and _nothing_ happens. Not a scratch. So you have to start your vehicle and leave the heater on full defrost and go back into the house for 45 min before you leave. Yeah, that was yesterday. Iowa.

2 months later and tomorrow looks like the first day I'll be doing a full inspection like this on my long hives in Central New York! We had three day stretch last month of 70° but it was too early to inspect.

Great to see your dad. Praying he continues improving. Question/comment… how long will it take for the bees to take a fair amount of the sugar. I’ve placed a feeder with sugar and it seems on inspecting the other day my bees were not taking hardly any sugar. Curious. By the way love your videos!
That actually depends on how active and the size of the hive. I have seen 1qt Mason jar of sweet-water (sugar & water mix) emptied in 24 hrs, also have seen same size emptied in 3 days.
I just might pick up a Horizontal hive for next year. Maybe at Hive Life 2023. Would be fun to play around with and compare to the standard lang. Cool video!

Ants have never been a problem for me because my hive is on a concrete pad. Never had more than a couple in or on my hive.
