  • [S6 E02] World War 3: The Resonance of Unwritten History
David Harvey reflects on the eerie similarities between current global political and economic tensions and those of the 1930s, suggesting a potential repetition of history that could lead to World War III. Drawing on Marx's notion that history repeats itself first as tragedy and then as farce, Harvey questions whether the current rise in authoritarian governance, austerity politics, and social discontent mirrors the prelude to past global conflicts. By examining the consequences of austerity, the spread of authoritarian and fascistic governance, and the growing discontent among populations worldwide, Harvey warns of the dangerous path towards a global conflict potentially involving nuclear weapons. He emphasizes the importance of understanding and addressing the root causes of these issues to prevent a repeat of history's darkest moments, suggesting that without significant change, the world may be on the brink of an apocalyptic future.

I recently watched a video by a member of the European parliament in which he stated that Europe was shifting to a war economy. Worrying times we live in.

Capital expands by creating open plots of land.
      Ukraine was 'abundantly successful'.

Shifting. Interesting choice of words. European corporations have been engaged in resource plunder this whole time.

@presterjohn1697 the European parliament is an interesting place with some diversity of opinion, although the recent happenings in Ireland questions the notion. The council is where policy is undertaken, as the norm there is to make use of backrooms, briefcases, and football huligans

Thank you for taking the time and giving your energy into these videos Professor Harvey, they are very refreshing and thought provoking in these times of analytical numbness and despair mixed with magical thinking. All my respect for you and what you have done and continue doing. Greetings from an avid reader of your books from Mexico.

I wonder why he is not at democracy at work with professor richard wolff? I loved his anti capitalist chronicles on that platform/channel.

Because Wolff turned out to be a total fraud. Im sorry to say this, but a close friend of mine worked at democracy at work and basically Wolff screwed all his employees over. That “Marxist” professor preaches social justice and cooperative culture and he did exactly the opposite, acting as a true capitalist bastard, revealing his true self. My friend suffered a lot! I have kept silent too long, Wolff does not deserve the fame he has. If you don’t believe me, ask yourself why every single podcaster that the organization had, left and why every single employee resigned at the same time. The only person remaining at DW is his wife who does the other show. Everyone abandoned him for this reason, this is a fact.
My guess is that Harvey and Robles-Duran did not want to be part of DW and that is why they started this channel. I wish they were more upfront about what happened there. Personally, I feel the videos that they are doing have much better production quality than when they were at DW, I also love the new podcasters they are bringing. I just wish they could put out podcast at the same frequency they had at democracy at work. Hopefully, as they get more popular they get the resources they need to do this.
Sorry to cause disappointment but Wolff is a hoax and impostor, he must be exposed.

I guess he noticed how Prof Wolff went nuts, starting from his weird anti-vaxx stuff, to his low-key support for Putin and China.
