Sitting in car today outside the vet’s this evening, saying goodbye to a good friend before the end came. I miss her so much already. Even a dog can leave you so broken-hearted, and this song was playing on the radio as i sat outside. i sit here now alone at night as the song comes back to my mind, i needed to come listen to it again.
Loosing a dog is worse than Loosing a best friend !

Don’t downplay the pain of losing a pet, ESPECIALLY a dog or cat. These are beings who loved you unconditionally. They never judged you or looked down on you. You never had to “perform” for them. I’m a cat dad, myself. And indoor cats will usually stay with you close to 20 years!! I never knew any pain like losing my first. He was with me through most of my 20s, ALL of my 30s, and saw me enter my 40s. All that life with him: a lot of education (I went on to get a masters and doctorate, so it was a lot); a two long relationships that didn’t last and one that has; my spouse’s successful battle with cancer; jobs lost and gained. So much. I’ve never known a pain like that. And the scary thing is, I’ll have to go through it all again. I have another cat who has already surpassed the other one’s age and is still super healthy. Will make it to his mid-20s easily. I have lost all kinds of friends, relatives, and experienced a few heartbreaks. Losing a pet, when that pet is a central part of your world, is a fresh hell. I think the only thing that could possibly be worse is having one of your children die before you.
