i live in korea right now but my school teaches in english bc it’s on a military base but i want to try to go to a korean school. my korean teacher said she wants to go on a field trip to a korean school
This has given me more hope about being an exchange student cause of wanted to do that forever but I just have to wait till I’m a bit older cause im 12 rn but when I am old enough I’m going to ask my parents if I can be an exchange student in South Korea 🇰🇷😊
Convincing my mom shouldn't be a problem but money on the other hand..... Nofrills employment application here I come!😂 P.S: I plan to go to South Korea
If you're in high school and live in America you should check out the government funded programs YES Abroad, CBYX, and NSLI-Y. If you get into the programs they give full scholarships to study abroad.
My parents are letting me do foreign exchange to South Korea and it was surprisingly easy to convince them. I was just like, " Can I do foreign exchange to South Korea?" and they just said "Sure, we'd be fine with that"😂😂
Sick video, cleared up a lot of stuff. I’ve applied to rotary to become an exchange student (I’d like to go to South Korea or Japan). I was wondering though, how has your year in exchange effected your school life? What did your senior year look like course wise? And if you went to college, did being an exchange student effect applying to college in any way?
Ok so I took some classes over the summer before leaving for my exchange year and then my senior year I got a credit for an Italian exam I took (I worked with my school and counselor to transfer the credit so it would be accepted). I also had no blow off classes senior year so it was definitely a grind, but absolutely worth it and it taught me that hard work and a challenge makes you realize we're capable of so much more than we originally thought. Having exchange on a college application is a huge plus and will set you apart. You would apply the same way as anyone else though if you are going your junior year.
This is asking my parents went, "hey mom can we please move to france for a year" (i originally wanted to move there as a family) mom- "no it wouldn't work with your dads job" me- "well then can i go on my own?" mom- "yeah sure you can do an exchange year in highschool" me- "cool"
I'm 14 and from Australia and I'm gonna get a part time job and save up for a year or two to be an exchange student in America (specifically somewhere with Snow since we don't get that in Australia)
I’ve wanted to be a exchange student since I was a kid, it always sounded so cool & now I’m in freshman year and I want to do it sooo bad but all the steps you have to go through and just the fact of being in a completely different country make my mom say no immediately 😭 I’m not sure how to convince her. She hates going out of the way to do things especially if it’s smth she rather not do.
Look into Rotary gap year program because it's the same thing has their high school abroad (same application even) but it will be when your 18 so parents might be more comfortable with the idea. That was how I ended up convincing my mom to let me apply
Hi! I have a question. I want to study abroad in France as I adore the language and culture, but if I am enrolled in a French school I’m worried about how I will understand French classes if I’m not fluent enough! I don’t want to do terrible in school just because I don’t understand the language but I also want to be immersed and have lots of practice time... Also, I’m really worried about how things will transfer back here. I am scared of leaving my home and my classes that I already have.
That's not that much money, assuming your fifteen or sixteen and live in the USA, get a day job for a month and a half or so, and you'll have more than enough money. And if you don't wanna get a job, you're not fit to be an exchange student, if you cant even work a 4 hour shift at taco bell 3 times a week, dont travel across the world by yourself.
Thanks for giving me the idea of getting a job for money me and my friend have been brainstorming ideas of how to save up enough money and so far we have decided on getting 2 jobs
I really want to be an exchange student, but I’m not sure where to start looking ☹️ I know I either want to go to Spain, Korea, or Greece but I’m afraid I might start saving and not be accepted. Also I don’t know any other programs besides for the NSLI-Y. Any advice?
Question: Will it be super difficult in school due to a language barrier between me and a teacher? Will I be able to learn as effectively as my French speaking peers?
Kenna Burke maybe more about the full Rotary experience, that it the organization I am most likely going to go with so I am interested in the little details that I may have to go through, thank you for replying! Edit: also maybe what it was like going to a country that spoke a whole other language! I am considering France but I’m a little concerned about the language barrier. Also, what factors impact the top 5 list, if any?
risa cantu RISA, Thank you for being so specific! Anyways the language barrier you can easily break down through the willingness to learn the language and culture. The top 5 list will be impacted by your choice and experience. You choose the top 5 list, although ultimately the Rotary club has the final say in where you go.
And also, what if you don’t need to go through a program to find a host family? What if you already have a family that will host you ? Is there a process for that
Well if you can work that out with them and the school or you could go through the organization (they have paperwork and what not that allows you to get a visa and enroll in a school abroad). Anything is possible although this is the advantage of going through Rotary or EF.
山杜結城 Are you an American citizen as well? As long as you are, you just have to apply for a visa to stay in the country that you would exchange to! In regards to paying, everyone pays before going on exchange. Although many Rotary clubs do offer paying in segments before leaving! What you pay will cover your flight and insurance, this is why you have to pay before! And thank you very much I’m glad I was able to help you out in better understanding the process🤩
@@raidengamer1193 Ah, I must've read that wrong. Rotary is active in Egypt and I believe they have youth exchange as well. Do you know if there is a rotary club near you? This is what you would need to find out and if there is, contact them and ask for information about youth exchange. They could give you all of the details that are unique to their club!
Hello I have a question. While studying abroad in high school can you get a part-time job? Also are there any other options besides staying with an exchange family
Thank you for this video! I really want to be an exchange student in another country but I just started to the language and I want to graduate from my home school. I am considering it for my junior year
Hey so I’m interested in being a exchange student, I have some questions, how do you get money to buy things on your own and how would I be able to understand the teacher or write if I cant understand the language? Or use transport etc
Hi!! So with rotary we are given an allowance every month and can have a personal account which you can fund before or while abroad. In the beginning you won’t understand the language 😂😂 this is the hilarious part, and this is why we all end up learning the language so well is because were completely immersed into it. A lot of independent study and with rotary we had a weekly language course!

The fact that the hardest step was the easiest for me :) and that's on a supportive parent ☺
This is the best guide video. Thank you!
Glad I could help Alejandra!!
Kenna,
As a parent you did an awesome job and sold it. Hopefully I can sell it to teenager. A lot of great Info thank you
I love to hear that! I don’t think it should be too difficult to show a teenager just how cool it really is🙌🏼
I want to be an exchange student in South Korea

If you're in high school and live in America you should check out the government funded programs YES Abroad, CBYX, and NSLI-Y. If you get into the programs they give full scholarships to study abroad.
Yea...money..is all important.. now
My parents are letting me do foreign exchange to South Korea and it was surprisingly easy to convince them.
Jackson Barnes how does rotary work?
Can you please Help me use rotary and apply, can i message you on ig or something?
Did you ever end up going?
did u go?
i’m hopefully gonna be an exchange student in new zealand!!
My mom asked me if I wanna go💀
Lucky
So lucky😂😂
This is asking my parents went, "hey mom can we please move to france for a year" (i originally wanted to move there as a family) mom- "no it wouldn't work with your dads job" me- "well then can i go on my own?" mom- "yeah sure you can do an exchange year in highschool" me- "cool"
I'm 14 and from Australia and I'm gonna get a part time job and save up for a year or two to be an exchange student in America (specifically somewhere with Snow since we don't get that in Australia)
I decided to become an exchange student in South Korea, I'm really happy that my parents said yes. From Italy to Korea lol
Hey so did you go to Korea?
I really want a hot British guys as my exchange student
I did too
British guys usually are not hot at all
Good luck im fucking ugly
@@dariocochelli2634 for real *roadmen intensifies*
I lived in England for 12 years, British men are mostly not hot 😶
I just started thinking about MAYBE becoming an exchange student. Honestly China sounds really fun along with France and Germany
Thanks so much so an insta ad:)
Arnie's Adventures You saw the insta ad?
@@KennaBurke yeah typo hahaha
This is the most interesting exchange student video I have watched!
We have the same problem😭
Look into Rotary gap year program because it's the same thing has their high school abroad (same application even) but it will be when your 18 so parents might be more comfortable with the idea. That was how I ended up convincing my mom to let me apply
I'm going to become an exchange student somewhere in Europe! I'll come back to this if I make it there!
i got here after watching 3 of your videos in italian, it's so strange when you speak in eng, looks like another person ahahah
I just wish to live differently from what my family's been through, and YES! I want to travel the world.
I wanna become a exchange student in South Korea, but my Korean isn’t really that good and my parents are pretty strict about me being away from home.
I'm planning on going to Germany next year!! Can't wait!
My parents are worried about I’d be gone for a long time in a place they can’t get to me if something happens What do I do?
Thank you , I’m glad I came across your video 😅😭😭 ima go apply now 💛
my mom said she totally agrees with me going, and thinks it's a good idea, but my dad is so against it://
Have you seen the how to convince your parents video I posted?
I'm so happy I found this video. Thank you so, so much!!
Im 5 years late but i love your editing sm

Any advice?
you can use YFU
I love your personality omg 😭😭
Question: Will it be super difficult in school due to a language barrier between me and a teacher? Will I be able to learn as effectively as my French speaking peers?
Thank you for the very well laid out video!
Yea soo I’m also from Houston Texas and no one ever talks like like that
Me too. I hate that stereotype so much
This is such an informative video! It would be great if you could do a more in depth version!
What topics would you like me to expand on?
Anyone wanna be exchange student in North Korea?
Good question tho
Yea
Thank you sooo much do this video it was very informative!! Also your personality is amazing!!
And also, what if you don’t need to go through a program to find a host family? What if you already have a family that will host you ? Is there a process for that
Well if you can work that out with them and the school or you could go through the organization (they have paperwork and what not that allows you to get a visa and enroll in a school abroad). Anything is possible although this is the advantage of going through Rotary or EF.
seriously considering becoming an exchange student in either the Netherlands or South Korea.
I know the question is weird, but I do have a lot of questions.
First of all, Id love to thank you for your hard work and appreciate your efforts
@@KennaBurke No, Im not an American citizen, so is it possible to apply? I said Im not living in the US lol
@@KennaBurke I'll try to find and thank you so much
山杜結城 No problem! I’m glad I could help and let me know if there’s anything I can help you with Rotary:)
Thank you so much for this vid it helped so much
I was thinking of money so thanks alot
Hello I have a question. While studying abroad in high school can you get a part-time job? Also are there any other options besides staying with an exchange family
I was celebrating when I heard you say you’re from Houston because I live there
I have a question can you be an exchange student for more than a year?
so glad that exchange program in my country is free
How well do you have to know the language? Would completing the Duolingo thing be enough to get by when you first arrive?
Yes. You are not required to know the language when you arrive, but it will help you a lot in making friends
Kenna Burke thank you, helped a lot!
when you come back, you should visit the lake area in the North. it's 1 hour drive from Monza, in the Varese province
I really want to become an exchange student but I’m 14 :(
