  • If there was only ONE video I could show to beginners in Kali/Escrima/Filipino Martial Arts, this would be it. In this video, we break down the most common defenses (with a follow up attack) to the basic angles 1-12. Part 1 will cover angles 1-5, part 2 will cover 6-12. We will show a defense from the stick up and stick down positions.
Influences: Grandmasters Cacoy Canete, Floro Villabrille, Ben Largusa, Angel Cabales, and Dan Inosanto.

Just curious for the viewers, what systems/instructors most influence your Kali training? For me I started with Cacoy Canete's system and trained with him in college. Dan Inosanto flew down a few times a year as well. My latter years was a lot of Floro Villabrille, Ben Largusa, and Angel Cabales. Currently I'm still training with the IMB Academy (mainly Cacoy focused) but mostly with Guru Richard Lamoureaux who is in the video who is an instructor under Inosanto, Lucaylucay, Vunak and several others. One of the best IMO.

I see the strong Serrada and giron influence, the early Inosanto stuff

great video i think anyone starting weapons should start with these basics. Every defense shown here is taught in the beginning at my school as well.
