The speaker gets an additional salary on top for their work as a speaker of the house. Yet to become in such a position isn't a day's walk. It is years of parlimentary accorymn and orders.

Warblerab 295 It was to make a point more than anything. The prorogation of Parliament couldn’t take place until Bercow went to the House of Lords to make it official. They were right to put up a fight, what the government has been trying to do is a disgrace to democracy. The Conservative party has been hijacked by a group of far-right populists. The Tories used to be the party of law and order, now they are the party of chaos and disorder.
@@jh5220 From the look of things when Bercow was trying to stand, I'd say BOTH sides in Parliament are parties of chaos and disorder. They were right to argue and debate against the Prorogation, but when it got to point of trying to keep Bercow from standing and both sides pushing and shoving like children on the school yard playground, it crossed the line into absurdity.

The US Senate needs him. They need some serious butt kicking and lessons in decorum and common sense. I learned a little bit more about this house. And it has some good history. But this is specifically designed to pressure people, to see how a politician can do under pressure. That is why everyone speaks so uniquely. It's supposed to be a 'mad house' to see who can stand it. It's a VERY clever way to do government. (I would fall like a leaf though.)

I'm amazed how much of a shitshow the House of Commons really is. The environment is quite frankly embarrassing to watch at times. As elected members they should have the decency to treat each other nice even though they disagree. Instead there is childlike behaviour that should be completely inappropriate for leading a country.
