To ease the feelings of pessimism and homesickness, they begin to sing songs." I don't know what you think but I find this a pretty sad story. As if among the endless hopelessness and depression that result from the endless waiting, they can only pretend joy. This reminds me of Mei, another great song but with an unexpectedly sad story behind it.
The song really does feel like being on a tropical vacation with friends, knowing the world will end in less than a week and trying to enjoy the short time you have, since they will not believe you if you told them (or will just end up stressed and despairing, which does no one good)
