Cato, thanks for the kind words, brother. I share the gospel in close to every video. In the last couple years, I think it’s every video. That’s more important than any guitar-related topic we could discuss. Blessings, Cato!

This will help me a lot Troy! We have a Marshall MGX250 at church and I always set the master volume and gain pretty low and feel the overdrive doesn't have articulation and even doesn't cut through the mix! Thank you for this!
Experimenting with a new setup this weekend: EP Booster (always on) => JHS Morning Glory => TS-9 => LPD Sixty 8 All of the pedals sound great on their own, and all stack really well with each other. Seriously the best and clearest explanation I've heard so far! I'll definitely be keeping this in mind as I fill out my signal chain. Currently it's a Caline Pure Sky (Timmy-ish) into a somewhat dirty Jet City 20. Looking for a tube screamer option to combine, and a cheaper delay with tap option to round things out.

Marshall 900 has op amps and diode clipping. You'd never sound like Zakk, even if the amp was on 11. My 1992 30th Anniversary Marshall (6100) is the best Marshall ever made. 7ct 12AX7s, 4ct EL34s (I use KT77s) 100W / 50W / 25W. Your pedal chain looks good. I believe the KoT is a blues breaker on the left and nobles circuit on the right. Both are soft clipping. The Kilt is a modified Expandora circuit which I believe is a hard clipping op-amp. The Superbolt is an amp in the box with soft clipping. The Tumnus is Brian's take on a Klon (soft clipping). My church rig is simple: Morning Glory V3 into Vertex SSS into Cabzeus Greenback open 2X12--all soft clipping. JHS 9 knob Sweet Tea (Moonshine V2 w/ blend into Angry Charlie) into Cabzeus Vin 30 4X12 closed back. TS circuits are hard clipping and the Angry Charlie, like all "amp in a box" pedals, is soft clipping. Soft clipping tends to be more dynamic and amp-like. This video is 4 years old. How has your rig changed?
Late to the party, but a few things to suggest... I just started using a voodoo sparkle drive, if you are looking for transparent, this thing keeps my Fenders sounding exactly the same as without... also, I'd add that the THD hotplate works great to pull back the volume on a tube amp, and still be able to push the tubes.. God bless
That makes way more sense than "stacking" everything. Now I'm going to have to get out the velcro; test and re-arrange. I use an small vox ac4c1-12 for an amp, would you say that is ok, mic'd.
Yes! Used one for years in a small church. Keeps stage volume nice and low! Now I use an ac15 in a larger church but amp is moved to an amp room so I can get it cooking, an ac15 in a small church is too loud for stage monitoring.
Aaron Soots i have been thinking about an kemper or an ax8; but can't justify the cost (yet). I have modded my amp (bright cap mod, speaker upgrade, and 5751with upgraded tubes.) What settings did you like for a pedal platform?
Catherine Faulkner I have been looking at an ac15; but that was my main concern; how loud you have to get it for that "sweet spot". I love my look little amp.
David Wilson Jr pretty loud but not stadium levels. I did for a while use it on stage of a medium sized church but I couldn’t get the master volume above 1.5 which didn’t get the power section working enough for the amp. There was still nice break up from the preamp section but really I felt it needed to be pushed slightly more for the sweetspot. In recent months I have moved it to the back room and mic’d it from there and now I can push the power section a bit more to get a sweetspot. I’d say stick with the smaller Vox if that works for you. I use an ac10 and blackstar 5 at home and that is perfect for home use and would probably work well on stage too however the ac15 has a proper spring reverb and tremolo which I loved and had the greenback speaker so for me that was the better amp and now moved to a better location and using in ears it’s worked out pretty well. I have also considered going helix or kemper but the cost and the fact that you have to tweak so much more than a valve amp that you just plug and play and have instant great tone in 20secs just puts me off.
I run a magnatone twilighter with a UA Ox to dial back volume and send a fully produced signal to front of house. It works great! It's a good middle ground for those who dont want to fully ditch their analog hearts.
PREACH! Also, great video. I’m helping out some worship team guitarists on the Hope College chapel band today and am definitely going to recommend this video (and all of your videos, honestly)! Thanks man!!
Awesome as always brother! I have a slightly different approach (and I mean SLIGHTLY) and this is definitely ON POINT. Inspires me to do my own video to show a slight variation. Slayed it as always!
Plus 1 for Helix. Never ran an amp hot because of the stage volume at church issue. Pleased to run the modeled amps and get great tone. I also run it with a hot rod deluxe to give me the amp in a room feel. the HRD surprisingly works well as a Clean platform. It’s the best of both worlds.
Yeha, I'd love to see a video where you demonstrate the difference between the sounds and the methods of how you run your overdrives and how others might run theirs.
Another option is buy a SGI or link box and run your amp off stage at a volume that allows that ‘sweet’ spot. I run a Mesa Mark V:25 off stage and have great results.
Great Video bro one reason why i still using my Hybrid Board too POD HD500X with the JHS Drives kilt&Bolt is i can run the amps emulations very hots great results too 👍🏻
I actually run a Jhs Ruby Red with the drive side always on, then if I want more gain I hit it with a Jhs Kilt V2. And then if I want more volume for leads or intros, I click on the boost side of the Ruby Red. And I have the boost selector switch with the boost after the drive side. Very Bethel sounding and not overkill with gain.
I'm pretty happy with the tone I get from my Vox AC15 at low volume, but my church is switching from stage monitors to in-ears, in which case I think I'll need to run even quieter. Rather than switch to an amp modeler, I'm thinking I might try picking up a Torpedo Live, or some other load box / cab sim. That way I can keep my amp and dime it right into the sound system, with no stage volume. I definitely see the pros to a Kemper though .... thanks for the video!
Instead of an amp I am using a Tech21 Liverpool. I can't recommend it enough. The Liverpool is an all analogic Vox type amp simulator that can be connected to the PA system or to a guitar amp.
Love your videos Troy , I use a laney lionheart 5w el84 drive channel on breakup, compressor always on, wampler tumnus always on as a base tone, rothwell atomic booster, mad Professor little green wonder a little hotter then a TC spark booster for a little extra volume. It’s all trial and error to see what works.
Awesome video! Thanks for the tips. Going to mess around with my pedals. :) I have a JHS double Barrel (Left side 1st then I'll sometimes stack it to the right side) --> JHS/Boss Angry Driver (This pedal also get swipe out sometimes). I'm going to take your advice on selling my amp. I have a Peavey Valveking II 112. I can only turn on to volume 1 or 2 on edge of break up. I'm thinking on getting rid of it and maybe buy a blues JR ( I heard it's a great amp for low volume) or blues deluxe.
Would definitely love to see a video demonstrating the difference in how you do vs others sound wise. Also, would you say that the tumnus comes on for almost every song at some point?
For sure. But you lose the effect of the speaker really pushing the mic, which is a big part of the equation as well. Been there, done that, though. Wasn’t happy. Also did the load box, cab sim and real amp. Wasn’t happy. Played a Kemper. Happy. Haha.
Awesome Video Troy! This was so helpful! Have you ever used the Scarlett Love v3 in this chain? How do you think it would fit in with a JHS Moonshine and Morning Glory?
I’m somewhat torn, I think some sort of modeling amp like a Kemper is the way I need to go. I live in a small apartment and can basically never turn my Hot Rod Deluxe on. My worry is with the kemper is that it’ll be relevant for a couple years then there will be something better and new. It’s much more tech forward than a tube amp so in someways a compare keepers to iPhones. Every year there’s a new one type situation. I know there isn’t a new one every year of the kemper but I guess I’m worried about it being obsolete shortly after getting one. Thoughts?
Hey Blake, that's a good thought to have. Gear changes quickly and as more and more people starting making stuff and tweaking things, there's no signs of it slowing down. I wanted something else along the lines of the Kemper but I couldn't afford throwing out that much money. I found an incredible deal on a Avid Eleven Rack (I don't use a whole lot of different amplifiers, usually find one I like and keep it - it's basically just a platform for pedals anyways) and it has worked out really well. Of course, you don't have the option to download profiles like the Helix or the Kemper but for the money, it's a good option.
Hey man! I would really look into the Two Notes Torpedo line. I have the Two Notes Torpedo Studio (But honestly the live would have sufficed and you can get those used for a fraction of the price). Now I can fully crank my Peavey 6505+ head or my Vox AC30 while my wife is still sleeping in the same room. It's a game changer to get those pushed tube tones but without all the noise to get you evicted. One word of recommendation is that while the stock Two Notes cabinets and the mic'ing system is neat (the virtual mic stuff is awesome how accurate and controlling it can be), I prefer using Ownhammer impulses. I know the UA OX seems to be the newest kid on the block that does that, but I don't have any experience with it.
Apple's business model is to design/rebuild/rerelease a new phone every 1-2 years. And for their products to break down every 1-2 years. Kemper isn't designed to be replaced. It's designed to be a long term solution, and there's no new version on the horizon.
Mr. Kemper has no plans of upgrading the device anytime soon. He's said this publicly. Don't be scared to buy it. If you use it like an amp, it'll be timeless.
Thanks for the video, super helpful! Planning my first (mini) board which will have 2 stages. I’m thinking between a Tumnus, MXR Timmy, Ibanez Tube Screamer, or BOSS BD-2. I’m leaning towards the BOSS for its supposed versatility and the Tumnus afterwards for the clean boost. Any suggestions?
Hey bro. It's nice to see what you think about not stacking some pedals. Thanks for this explanation. What I'd like to ask is how would you build a decent worship tone on a budget. Here in Brazil the Kemper would cost 12x the minimum wage, and I personally don't make money out of music. I only play at church on sundays. Is there an affordable way out you would recommend?
Cam Beswitherick The Helix it's still veeeery expensive. It's like 8x the minimum wage. what I'm talking about is those amp sims like Sansamp, Mooer, and some a little more expensive than them.
Have you ever been in a situation where you are the only electric guitar in a worship set? If so how do you cope with both (rythm and lead) roles to keep the band sound full?
Maks Nist For sure. Takes intentional use of delay/verb to fill things up. Also helps to pick and choose when to play huge chords or when to fill with single note stuff.
Preach it! How would you apply this to a Helix, same way? Do modeled pedals respond the same? I’ve been finding that with the ability to change the gain of a pedal per snapshot, I’m getting better tones to my ears with one OD pedal with three different gain settings, than having three different overdrives stacked in the traditional 123 method. It seems like you can get all the gain you’d ever need out of a single overdrive, and if you add others I keep the gains so low that all it’s really doing is adding more color, not actually any gain. Is this kind of what you’re talking about? It’s more about finding the color you want than the gain setting you want?
That's one approach, for sure. I think color/character and gain levels should be considered. The beauty of the Helix is that you the boundaries are eliminated, so to speak. Sometimes I use two Minotaurs or two Timmy pedals. Just depends. And I can do whatever I want with that thing. It's great! But I set it up like I would a pedalboard. Similarly, anyway.
And in case of using a pedal making the overdrive paper of the amp basically always on, in a clean amp? Ideally, he's at the end of the chain, right? Even after the effects? The pedal in this case would be the Catalinbread SFT. I think of using together The Hungry Robot [lg] / Hudson Broadcast and a fuzz (Deep Trip Hellbender / SolidGold FX 76 Octave). What would be the best signal chain?
Thank you anyway. The SFT (mk3) is a very versatile pedal going from an almost clean, not so dirty, Roling Stones sound to a dirtier Queens of the Stone Age handle. It's worth keeping always on imo.
Guitar for HIS Glory In case of an approach without a pedal always on, how would you set up? With the following pedals: Catalinbread SFT, Hudson Broadcast (or The Hungry Robot [lg]) and a fuzz.
Hey troy... im your follower since 1 year ago! im from Brazil! recently i got a Jackson Audio Prism, and im using in front of the morning glory... what do you think about?
What do you think about the Simplifier? Should I sell my 100 watts Marshall valve amp and buy a Simplifier? I'm thinking about that 'cause It's really loud and actually I'm not quite liking it anymore... It's a Marshall MA100C
Mr. Troy! You did it again! Love the video, and love the combination of Kilt and Superbolt. Fyi, I'm using those overdrives too! LOL! Really Bethel-ish Style Overdrive :)
How about instead of cranking an amp, use the 2nd channel of an amp. For example, on my hot rod Deluxe, I could use the 2nd channel and bring the gain way down until it sounds like it’s breaking up. And I usually use the clean channel because I think trying to connect delay, reverb etc to the effects loop is too much of a hassle. Too many cables
Hello! I'm thinking of getting the Superbolt. I already have Morning Glory and Moonshine and Soul Food. How would you recommend stacking all 4 (including Superbolt) as 4-stage drives? What order would you recommend?
I love higher wattage amps, like 30-60 watts, but it sucks not being able to run them hot. I can’t deal with the feel/sound of non-tube amplification though. I’ve tried running lower wattage stuff (5-15 watts), but it seems the lower the wattage, the mushier sounding my delays and reverbs get. I use a lot of both because I’m the only electric guitarist so I have a ton of space to fill. What is a good way to combat the lack of headroom and keep things nice and clean?
Guitar for HIS Glory I was worried that would be the answer. I haven’t owned one, but I have gotten to mess with a couple. I had a Helix for a little while too. I don’t think they sound horrible or anything, I just REALLY love my tubes.
If I use a monitor heaphone am I gonna be able to hit the amp sweet spot? When I turn it loud enough? I have 40 watt amp that I use for practice and I can only turn it to 4.
@@GuitarforHISGlory hi so in one of your tips you mentioned that if your amp is too loud and you can't use it to full potential the drive will not sound good. I was thinking of I use a monitor headphone and turn the master volume up(without damaging my ears) will I be able to find the sweet spot of the amp I have?
I really need some help. So I currently am running Vox ac30 into a di box to get sound out to the system at my church. My pedal chain is EHX soul food>Jhs morning glory>Source audio nemesis>strymon bluesky. So i find that the high top boost channel is too loud so I use the low top boost so I can run it a little hotter. My master is about 12 or 1 and the top boost volume is about 3. I know you said it’s not worth using the big amp but I kind of don’t know any other way because we sometimes go to other churches where we cannot connect to the system so I have to simply use the amp( I can’t do that with a smaller amp and run it the way I want. I went with the ac30 because I needed a bit more headroom bc we don’t only play modern worship. Also my amp is like my monitor bc we don’t use in ears, how can I run it a little hotter without overpowering stage volume
Short and crappy answer: You can't unless you turn the master volume way down, but then you're only getting preamp overdrive, which isn't ideal. How about a Kemper or Helix and a powered speaker?
Hi what overdrive would you say would go perfect with the morning glory in your opinion? I only haventhe morning glory right now and i dont plan to remove it from my board. I use to have the jhs kilt v1 several times and everytime i ended up selling it. 🤷🏻♀️ It just was noisy and i couldnt get one that wasnt noisy sooo
@@GuitarforHISGlory so ok long story short. I have the very first WA Julia the one w the ugly lady pic. 😅 I recently found out, i didnt know that it was not stereo. Want to sell it to get something like the EDevices pyramid, bc Andy says that i can get chorus w a flanger effect. Also, maybe even upgrading to the Julianna if not the pyramid. This guy frim fb market, offered his superbolt v1 for trade for my julia v1. I chekced reverb.com and the superbolt v1 are pretty pricey used. Like over $200 😳 im like whaaat? So would this be a good trade? Thanks in advance i hope u see this message right away. 😔
Troy! I'm running a Fender Hot Rod deluxe and what you said happens to me.. I have to use it with a low volume.. What could I do if I don't hace enough money to buy a Kemper???
jose lemus put a cheap volume pedal in the fx loop and turn it down It allows you to hit the pre amp a little harder but still control tour volume. Brian Wampler has a video demoing this.

I have an vox ac15c1 with jhs morningglory and ocd. Ocd into jhs into distortion. After that volume pedal and delay reverb etc. What would you suggest as a 3rd overdrive? I am looking into walrus mayflower or bb preamp or wampler euphoria. What would you suggest where to place that 3rd. Vox ac15c1 has no fx loop so I can't set it to breakup point :( I like that sound a lot but the delay sounds strange into that.
Johnny Knegt Delay in front of dirt amp is what you hear on all these recordings. 👍🏻 The BB will be close to your MG. How about a Klon-style or a Superbolt?
@@GuitarforHISGlory so the delay is not in A effect loop after the dirt from the amp? So the echo gets dirt from the amp after the delay too? To me it sound strange that the echo is more clean into the amp and the amp makes the echo dirtier. What klon do you suggest? You think superbolt is better for my setup than euphoria?
@@GuitarforHISGlory worship band in church and youth nights. But we play rock style songs too. In which place do you think i need the third overdrive. The ocd has highs and lows. Mg is more high imo
Haha It is on the heavier side. I just enjoy my tube amps. I figure if I can lift weights 4 days a week then I can carry a 30 lb tube head to church. It’s not for everyone though.
Don't sell you amp, get an attenuator, crank your volume on your amp to cook the tubes and use the attenuator for your volume control. It's MUCH cheaper than getting a Kemper. I use a Weber attenuator.
I actually don't recommend attenuators. The amp still has to push a good amount of air (i.e., volume) to get a good mic'd up sound. When attenuated, a mic'd amp can sound anemic to my ears. I much prefer the Kemper. To each their own!
@@GuitarforHISGlory Okay, many, even pros use attenuators. In your video you discuss how you can't get the natural OD out of a high wattage amp because you can't turn the volume up. The point of the attenuator is that you can turn the volume of the amp up to get the natural OD tone of the amp and attenuate the volume down to a "bedroom" level. My comment was addressing your comments on only being able to turn an amp up to 1 or 2.
Jeff Rude And that’s only half the problem. We still have to solve the problem of getting the signal to the PA system. Your suggestion isn’t bad, I just don’t agree that attenuators are the ultimate solution. Now, an attenuator/cab sim combo like the UA OX? Now we’re talking!! 😎
Explain the challenges FOH would have caused by my approach to overdrives. That would be helpful to those reading the comments; me included, because I don’t know how this would complicate things for them. I’ve been doing this for 15+ years without complaints.
Thanks for clarifying that for me, please keep the videos coming iam loving the content!! And also can you do a video on making a budget pedalboard from patch cables to the board to pedals power supply etc I'm interested in your tips and opinions
How do you guys run your OD signal chain? Is your approach similar to mine? Different? #discuss
Dirty Vox AC30HW, clean boost (always on) after compression, then JHS Morning Glory, then JHS Kilt V2.
Ibanez TS5 and then an OCD like. I used to stack them, so no I'll have to rethink that.

Catherine Faulkner what does the master volume need to be set at on the ac15?
I run a magnatone twilighter with a UA Ox to dial back volume and send a fully produced signal to front of house. It works great! It's a good middle ground for those who dont want to fully ditch their analog hearts.
Great tips Troy! I learned a lot from this video. Keep up the great work and God bless.
Finally an easy to understand and well explained Drive stage video! My faith in Worship Guitarists is restored 😂
Glad the video helped.
PREACH!
Also, great video. I’m helping out some worship team guitarists on the Hope College chapel band today and am definitely going to recommend this video (and all of your videos, honestly)! Thanks man!!
Hope it's helpful to them!
Instant 👍for your 2 cents on a "transparent" overdrive. I smh everytime I hear/see that word used to describe a pedal. Preach on Brother Man!
Awesome as always brother! I have a slightly different approach (and I mean SLIGHTLY) and this is definitely ON POINT. Inspires me to do my own video to show a slight variation. Slayed it as always!
Make a video! We need more people out there willing to help the community with their approaches. Tear it up!
Did you ever make a video? I like Troy's approach but love hearing others.
@@Bubi5JG11 I’m lame. I went back to school and started a small business and I haven’t. But. I. Will. 😂
This was really helpful. Opened my mind. Can you also do a demo video.
I'll add it to the list. :)
You sir, just absolutely sold me on buying a Kemper. Thank you!
Noah, welcome to the club. I’ve helped a lot of people make the transition. Let me know if I can answer any questions for ya!
Nice!
Yeha, I'd love to see a video where you demonstrate the difference between the sounds and the methods of how you run your overdrives and how others might run theirs.
I'll add it to the list.
Another option is buy a SGI or link box and run your amp off stage at a volume that allows that ‘sweet’ spot. I run a Mesa Mark V:25 off stage and have great results.
I really like the boost pedal placement idea. I usually have mine before all of my drives to really push them, but I may try the other way.
Amen. God bless you brother !
Could you get away with two overdrives? The MG being stage one, Superbolt being stage 2, stage 3 stacking both
Great Video bro one reason why i still using my Hybrid Board too POD HD500X with the JHS Drives kilt&Bolt is i can run the amps emulations very hots great results too 👍🏻
Heck yeah!
Sweet!
There you go!
Great video. Thanks for sharing the gospel brother
This was exactly the video I wanted to see today.
Well, great timing!
You're the man! I know your friend Dan Dameron, can't believe you guys served together.
Andres, Dan’s one of my best buds. Known him for years. We actually got baptized around the same time. Love that guy!
Instead of an amp I am using a Tech21 Liverpool. I can't recommend it enough. The Liverpool is an all analogic Vox type amp simulator that can be connected to the PA system or to a guitar amp.
I used one of those years ago. Great solution!
Trial and error. Exactly. Can't be afraid to experiment.
Try an AC15 as well. You may like it.
Would definitely love to see a video demonstrating the difference in how you do vs others sound wise. Also, would you say that the tumnus comes on for almost every song at some point?
Travis, the Tumnus or the pedal playing the same role gets A LOT of use.
th-cam.com/video/NlhoKHY4V2c/w-d-xo.html
Do you think an amp attenuator could be beneficial and allow the amp to run hot without all the volume?
For sure. But you lose the effect of the speaker really pushing the mic, which is a big part of the equation as well.
Been there, done that, though. Wasn’t happy.
Also did the load box, cab sim and real amp. Wasn’t happy.
Played a Kemper. Happy. Haha.
Modelers are hard to beat these days, especially kemper.
Kemper with pedalboard or Line 6 Helix are what I'd recommend. Unless your church let's you use an ISO box.
Even if they do have an iso box, Kemper is the way to go. 😜
the Ox Box by universal audio sounds fantastic
Awesome Video Troy! This was so helpful! Have you ever used the Scarlett Love v3 in this chain? How do you think it would fit in with a JHS Moonshine and Morning Glory?
I have. Not a huge fan of the switching. Can't stand the delay in signal. I think it would fit in nicely in the Marshall mode. Tear it up!
Mark Brooks thanks for the comment! How do you know this? Just curious is all! Have they stated it as a company?
I like what I use, so I guess I'd suggest those. 🤷🏻♂️
Nós brasileiros sempre nos damos mal pra comprar equipamentos. Complicado.
Helix!
Cam Beswitherick The Helix it's still veeeery expensive. It's like 8x the minimum wage. what I'm talking about is those amp sims like Sansamp, Mooer, and some a little more expensive than them.
Tech 21 Liverpool or Atomic Firebox. Done.
Go to tagboardfx.com and start building. That's what I have been doing. I buy enough parts to build 2 and sell one to pay for both, then keep mine.
Guitar for HIS Glory thank you so much for the reply.. God bless you man
Greetings! Love your channel. What overdrive pedal do you think stacks well with the KOT? Appreciate your opinion.
Superbolt.
I'm not a fan of the always-on pedal approach. Probably not the best person to ask!
Great video!! What's your thoughts on a "always on" boost? Kind of as a base tone.
Not a fan of that, unless it's absolutely necessary. I think your amp/amp sim should be able to achieve a satisfactory base tone.
What do you think about the Simplifier? Should I sell my 100 watts Marshall valve amp and buy a Simplifier? I'm thinking about that 'cause It's really loud and actually I'm not quite liking it anymore... It's a Marshall MA100C
Talking about amps, what are the best amps for worship, in your opinion?
Never used one. The Strymon Iridium is a nice unit. Anything Vox AC30-flavored will nail 95% of the stuff you hear.
Mr. Troy! You did it again! Love the video, and love the combination of Kilt and Superbolt. Fyi, I'm using those overdrives too! LOL! Really Bethel-ish Style Overdrive :)
Great sounds out of those two boxes!
That's a faux way of doing it. Won't hurt to try! If it sounds good, it is.
Hello! I'm thinking of getting the Superbolt. I already have Morning Glory and Moonshine and Soul Food. How would you recommend stacking all 4 (including Superbolt) as 4-stage drives? What order would you recommend?
After watching this video, what do you think?
Guitar for HIS Glory morning glory -> Superbolt -> moonshine-> soul food??
Should I put my tumnus after distortion or before distortion? Cause I have my tumnus in front of my overdrives, acting like a clean boost
Then it's not acting like a clean boost. If it's before, it's pushing your drives into more gain.
Does this mean you put fuzz and other distortion pedals in front of your OD pedals?
I love higher wattage amps, like 30-60 watts, but it sucks not being able to run them hot. I can’t deal with the feel/sound of non-tube amplification though. I’ve tried running lower wattage stuff (5-15 watts), but it seems the lower the wattage, the mushier sounding my delays and reverbs get. I use a lot of both because I’m the only electric guitarist so I have a ton of space to fill.
What is a good way to combat the lack of headroom and keep things nice and clean?
Blaine, you can’t. Just can’t. That’s why I run direct. Have you actually tried a Kemper?
Guitar for HIS Glory I was worried that would be the answer. I haven’t owned one, but I have gotten to mess with a couple. I had a Helix for a little while too. I don’t think they sound horrible or anything, I just REALLY love my tubes.
The Kemper sounds are all determined by the quality of the profiles. Get ahold of a Kemper with Tone Junkie, M Britt or Selah Sounds profiles. WOW.
If I use a monitor heaphone am I gonna be able to hit the amp sweet spot? When I turn it loud enough? I have 40 watt amp that I use for practice and I can only turn it to 4.
Hello there. I don’t understand your question. Can you clarify?
@@GuitarforHISGlory hi so in one of your tips you mentioned that if your amp is too loud and you can't use it to full potential the drive will not sound good. I was thinking of I use a monitor headphone and turn the master volume up(without damaging my ears) will I be able to find the sweet spot of the amp I have?
WELL STATED...good advice
Any comment on how you would use the helix with this method?
No difference. :)
what do you think about the cab filter on Big Sky paired with a preamp?
Never used it.
Would gain staging sound differently if you run a pedal at 18v? I pair my soulfood (9v) and my full tone ocd (18v).
The concept remains the same. I'm not a fan of gain staging.
Hi what overdrive would you say would go perfect with the morning glory in your opinion?
I only haventhe morning glory right now and i dont plan to remove it from my board.
I use to have the jhs kilt v1 several times and everytime i ended up selling it. 🤷🏻♀️
It just was noisy and i couldnt get one that wasnt noisy sooo
Superbolt!
@@GuitarforHISGlory so ok long story short. I have the very first WA Julia the one w the ugly lady pic. 😅
I recently found out, i didnt know that it was not stereo.
very informative! love it!
Glad it was helpful.
If I am going into an edge of break up Princeton (Tyler), would I stack it like tuner- prince of tone- timmy-tumnus mini?
I do use prince of tone as main tone and timmy boosts it for bigger choruses. Tumnus is all lead tones
Yep.
how would you run a messner, voyager, and garland fx pink drive?
Never played the Garland, so I'm not really sure.
Guitar for HIS Glory all good. How about a messner, mayflower, voyager?

@@2speedy4u22 thanks for the idea!
Sell your amp and buy a Helix. Or try 2speedy's idea. :)
Yes on the delay-in-front question. What bands do you primarily play?
@@GuitarforHISGlory worship band in church and youth nights. But we play rock style songs too. In which place do you think i need the third overdrive. The ocd has highs and lows. Mg is more high imo
I'm sorry. I meant, "What worship teams are you guys typically covering?"
Is the boss katana 50 a good amp for this staging technique?
hnbnnnnnn No idea.
Do you run any pedals "always on"?
Did I see in the past you had a delay Scarlett love?
Yeah. I've owned a ton of pedals.
That’s right homie!
About a fender hot road deluxe??
Same approach.
You mean you would sell the fender hot road is to loud ?
Sell my matchless? Too bold bro. Too bold!
Don't many distortion pedals sound better with squeaky clean amps?
Much of this video is about how I disagree with that notion. LOL. 🤨
How about a 5w amp, ran to the edge of breakup - mic’ed...ok solution? Rather than a 30w
A 5w amp is still incredibly loud when breaking up. If you can do it, go for it! Still have to hope your sound guy knows how to properly mic an amp.
Guitar for HIS Glory - yessir, pretty good sound guy actually. I face my amp away, toward the wall also. It’s a pretty big stage, we meet in a theater
New sub
ROMANS 5:8! Exactly!
Or keep you’re DC30 and get a reactive load box and IR loader.
That's yet another (heavier) solution. LOL.
Obviously this is not taking into account the complication of FOH setup? LOL
Explain the challenges FOH would have caused by my approach to overdrives. That would be helpful to those reading the comments; me included, because I don’t know how this would complicate things for them. I’ve been doing this for 15+ years without complaints.
Just get something with a master volume
James Reyes Not the same thing. Power tube overdrive vs Preamp tube overdrive.
Thanks for clarifying that for me, please keep the videos coming iam loving the content!! And also can you do a video on making a budget pedalboard from patch cables to the board to pedals power supply etc I'm interested in your tips and opinions
