It's alwaysgreat to see a really well made picture with an excellent cast. William Castle has the reputation of someone who did horror cheapies. His direction here was fine, and maybe we need to go back and look at some of those--as well as a lot of little pictures of that era.. The story is based on an actual Hollywood murder--that of William Desmond Taylor. It ruined the career of Mary Miles Mintner, and was quite the story of the day. King Vidor thought he solved the murder years later. This is all in a book called A CAST OF KILLLERS by--I think--an author named Kirkpatrick.

Loved the cars ; great curves . Can't decide whether Conte makes a decent hero or a menacing villain better .
