Day 3: This has been a top-notch effort by Mumbai as they have managed to stretch their total closer to the 550-run mark by the end of Day 2. Ajinkya Rahane missed out on a well deserved century earlier in the day but Sarfaraz Khan notched up a spectacular double ton. He was dropped by Prasidh Krishna in the 90s and the young batter has made the opposition pay for their mistake.
Kotian and Shardul Thakur chipped in with significant contributions too as the Mumbai batters made the most of the batting friendly conditions. Mukesh Kumar with four wickets has been the best of the bowlers for Rest of India and with one wicket remaining he'll be looking forward to claim a five-wicket haul tomorrow.
Day 2: Mumbai are in a good position in this Irani Cup final ending the first day at 237/4 with skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Sarfaraz Khan batting fluently at the close of play. The Ranji champions lost three early wickets last morning but recovered through their three International stars as Shreyas Iyer too chipped in with an impressive fifty.
Mumbai will look to pile on the runs but the morning session could be a bit tricky with some seam and swing movement on offer. The new ball is still 12 overs away and will be interesting to see how ROI captain Ruturaj Gaikwad approaches the morning. Always on the cards when the players leave the field with about 15 minutes left to play due to bad light.
It has been a good start to the Irani Cup for Mumbai. They lost both openers and Hardik Tamore cheaply but the experienced trio of Rahane Shreyas Iyer and Sarfaraz Khan have steadied the ship. All three of them got fifties and although Iyer perished shortly after his milestone Rahane and Sarfaraz are still going strong.
The Mumbai captain has batted brilliantly a faultless innings so far where he is playing at his pace and making bowlers look pedestrian. There was a bit of seam movmement offer early not much for the spinners so far. A very good morning from the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow which plays host to the 2024 Irani Cup which Mumbai take Rest of India.
Plenty of International stars will be on display today for the Ranji champs with Ajinkya Rahane Shreyas Iyer Prithvi Shaw and Shardul Thakur all expected to take the field. Mumbai also have the talismanic spin duo of Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian who have performed so well for them in the domestic circuit in the past couple of seasons.
The Rest of India team will be captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad with Ishan Kishan also getting his chance after a long absence from the domestic circuit. Their bowling comprises of fringe Indian stars like Khaleel Ahmed Mukesh Kumar and Prasidh Krishna - all of whom would be keen to impress against the Ranji champs.
Rahane: We were looking to bat. Toss you can't control as a captain. You need to do well every session in day's cricket. We are ready. I spent two and a half months playing county cricket. Got some game time under my belt. Preparation wise every one is ready. Rest of India have won the toss and have opted to field.
Gaikwad: We will bowl first. Little bit of moisture. We want to make first use. Totally ready. We have been missing red ball cricket. Everyone eager to play. Three pacers and two spinners are playing.
