I definitely agree with you, automation is criticial. I did the opposite-I first learned automation, and then learned manual testing...so I know both know. I know Protractor, Cypress, and Playwright. I also used Postman and SQL and some other manual testing tools. But like I have seen others mention in the comments, the problem I am facing now is that when I have an interview, they don't care if I have over 6 years of automation experience-they want me to solve dev-level coding problems on the spot. No one in my interviews is asking about testing strategies, and oftentimes I've found that people interviewing me don't know much about the testing frameworks themselves (a few were surprised when I told that that I have used Cypress to automatae some of my REST API testing). There needs to be some kind of shift in the way they interview QA Automation roles....for an SDET, I can understand needed to know more in-depth coding....but as a QA Automator its not really necessary in my opinion and experience. At least this his my experience here in the U.S...
Manual Testing is core work and can not be replaced by any automation tool. Simple thing in any project is that most of the time application is undergoing lot of changes and we require lot of regrioros black of testing. Automation testing comes into picture when we have a stable application and we need to do frequent regression testing for the build.
Naveen - You have amazing set of videos on your channel and those who have just gone through the titles and thumbnail of your videos can easily identify where he needs to fix his feet. You contribution to the testing community is amazing and you are the reason why I stick to the testing profile
Thank you Naveen, it’s something relating to our core values as well. I guess it would be very helpful if we could have a little detailed video on the roadmap for up-skilling. Obviously there is no end to it, but only an experienced person in their specific field can guide us. Thanks Again 🙏
I watched this excellent video just now. Naveen Sir has rightly highlighted many of the common issues that people with 10+ years of experience in Software Testing with/without automation skills are facing (be it being behind in technology wise or Skills wise). Naveen Sir's 20+ mins video gave a complete picture of what is happening now and what is going to happen if we do not up skill ourselves. We are all somewhere in this loophole going into quagmire of working in the day to day projects (in different positions) and forgetting the art of upskilling ourselves to stay relevant in the near/far future. I personally would like to thank Naveen Sir for this wonderful video. ITs a rude wake up call for all of us to have forgotten the art/skill of upgrading ourselves periodically.
Thank you, Naveen. This is something a group of people thinks and later blame others or suitations for not upgrading and ultimately regret it . This is just an eye-opener for those and it is high time to upgrade skills.
Dont run after salary package. Do what you like. If automation is something you don't enjoy doing then better dont do. Find something which you like doing.
Yes Indeed! Automation testing is mandatory for regression testing in Big tech. Atleast 70% of the TCs should have been automated for quicker releases every sprint. Manual will only be used for functional & integration with upstream/downstream. Companies have Quality team that are creating in-house automation testing framework with Java & Python, creating APIs for test data setup.
Being a Senior position on QA, I take interviews in my company for Manual Automation both then yes can say Naveen shown exact market demanding conditions, One should be having knowledge of automation with hands on practice, Learn Tech no matter what otherwise yes one will struggle a lot ..Set a GOAL that you have to learn it with curiousity. Make effrots and Get good package .Thanks Naveen.

Thank you so much, Naveen, for sharing valuable insights on QA. I truly appreciate your guidance. As a QA professional, I believe in continuously improving our values Thanks
Thanks Naveen for sharing the ground reality and expectations from testing team nowadays. To the Point 👏 👏 , investing into yourself and upgrading time to time, is the need of hour to survive in Tech.
I 100% agree with you. My managers are manual testers with almost 8 to 15 years of exp. Now they are stuck with low salaries. Automation Although some of the companies are using but still if a manual tester is not getting better in tech, they have no future then.
Nowadays companies are asking complex coding questions on java than 2years before . Earlier it was theoretical questions only but now to clear a interview is tough
This is so true...and it's not fair. The last few interviews I've had, they have asked or given me complex leetcode problems...and ask ZERO questions about automation or testing. And they are all demanding DevOps experience as well...
If you are a fresher from IT background, stay away from QA role altogether. Though it may sound harsh , but try for Dev roles. All the new technologies that are developing are for Developers, they are paid higher with no upper limit. However no matter what automation tool you learn , there is a cap you will have on what you are paid. Try for Dev role .

Hi Naveen, firstly I would like to Thankyou for this amazing video. I’m currently working as a Recruiter and I’m parallely working on changing my domain and moving to testing. I would really appreciate if you can guide me on what skills should I learn first to become a software tester. Thankyou in advance. :)
Really well explained as sometime when i say to QA mate we need to have some technical skill they answer that would not help but everything we learn eventually have a benefit.

You are a great help to all such kind of people. Thanks once again for inspiring and making us feel that anyone with a proper dedication can do it.

@naveen I am also asking the same questions to myself today only so do you think if someone cannot be good in programming then he should try to do some certification like scrum master that can help to get better position and survival for next 10 years...

Starting from a manual tester position there are 2 roadmaps inncareer. One is to go to tge management part of the QA activities, leading and managing teams. The second one is to improve technical skills, learn automation framework, learn a programming language, learn devops, etc

thats totally wrong, 20 LPA is a very common packg in india for SDET (3-5 yrs exp). People are getting 40-70 LPA also with SDET profile up to 15 years. And not everyone is going to data science.

Yes I have faced same ,
Same here.
I thought this was an Indian thing , thanks for painting the picture for the global trend too
Same here
What do they expect SDETs to create with developer level coding knowledge? Even an excellent automation framework is a baby project for a developer.
Tech Industry is dynamic and that is why many people are switching from tech to management.
Exactly
Not exactly true but tech field is much needed....may be people not able to survive or cannot cope up with the changes are switching
Management people will suffer the most
