Nicely documented and thanks for the company on the cold night, I was the Scottish one of the 3 of us 🤣 Surprised there was only 3 of us there for it in the end and even more surprised 56105 managed it ! Noticed it was 18 wagons not 20 so maybe that’s why they allowed the single one to take the train. I see 56049 is back out again but not so much 56098!
Hi there, Hope your keeping well. We were the plonkers waiting there till the end but it was worth it 😀I looked at the timings the next day and no more time lost between Chester and Chirk so must of done the business to be fair !!! 56049 was soon back into action so luckily must of not been too serious. It’s actually back on the logs with 56105 this week.
What actually happened to these engines is the daily log train that comes past me (on the Clitheroe line) was meant to pass Citheroe at 16:03 and got there at 17:33 and I then had no updates from this train for quite some time, then from looking at other train services that run on that line they cancelled due to "Diesel loco failure" and I then knew it had broken down at Clitheroe, eventually the train got linked up to the DRS 66430 where it was taken over to Blackburn and arrived at close to 2 am where all I then knew is the service was cancelled from Blackburn!
The engines failed basically. 56049 got going again with 56105 added on Sunday 56049 failed again on Sunday leaving 56105 to run solo Gather the 2 locos taken off at Chester was to take weight off the load
@@arthurgrowler5749 I said on another post earlier in the week they made a hell of a noise coming out of Wrexham through Rhostyllen we were sitting in the living room and it sounded like they were in the road outside
not really , these engines unfortunately are getting to the end now i feel. They have been great servants and have done some huge mileages but they dont seem too reliable anymore. Its time to retire to the preserved lines i feel for a few of these
@@nickedwards2904 Yes great Locomotives. It’s a shame what happened with the last log train but it does happen, ended up abit if a disaster in the end. Was a lot to ask for 56105 to take the full load to Chirk from Chester but to be fair great achievement going solo. Must of had a good run up to Gresford bank.
Nice record of the shunt. I heard Colas are short of working 70s (is 812 still out of service with wheel flats?) hence using the 56s and renting 098. I was going to head into Carlisle to see the logs today but it was cancelled. Its been fun watching the grids accelerate out of Carlisle.
Think 56105 was booked to bring down half a load from Carlisle. Yes short on 70’s heard the same, they are hiring a freightliner loco at the moment. Looked on rail cam 70812 still out of actions.
I have great trouble with even the slightest wind noise. I am using a Tascam hand held device. Arthur, what do you use? I notice your videos are all clean in sound, and yet just lately there has been one storm after another in the last 4 months, which has prevented me from going out to record. I also live 16 miles from Chester, at Flint, and so your videos really connect with me every time. Great work indeed.
All in a days work for a class 56! The problems with pairing them is the multiple jumpers can cause problems with the slave locomotive shutting down or just idling under power ! These engines aren't getting any younger??

Brilliant footage Arthur. Well done 💥💥
Cheers Norman 👌
Hope your keeping well 👍
Great coverage Paul.
Cheers Mike 👍
I used to go to Chirk with the Log train, back in the EWS days, we used to put two trains a day in there.
Still busy with log delivery. Mainly from Carlisle each day and top ups from smaller train loads later at night

That would have made some noise going up Gresford bank
I didn’t think it would make it but fair play it was a success 👌

@@arthurgrowler5749 no it was one of the first trips before the breakdown
@grumpygrandad55 oh right sorry misunderstood!!
cool vid thanks lee

Great coverage, what an absolute farce this whole log train was. Took until early hours of Monday morning to get Friday's logs delivered!
Not the best trip down to Chirk. Did wonder if it would make it at all last night at one point when 56105 had problems
hi, strange how two locos have conked out, !
56098 was already out the game. 56049 failed on Friday & Sunday unfortunately

Cheers for the kind comments. Glad you enjoyed the videos.
Nothing technical I just use my I phone 11
Live by Shotton so not far from eachother 👍
Many thanks Arthur. Perhaps I'll see you one day soon on one of the local stations. I hope so very much.@@arthurgrowler5749

Oh right. Understand what happened to 56049 now
great video
Cheers 🍻
How often did steam engines fail?
Really its time all these old locos were withdrawn they aren't reliable
Wouldn’t be the same without them !!
