I'd argue against picking Garnacho, tbh. I don't think Garnacho is nailed, right now, for a couple of reasons. 1) Amad has been Uniteds best player in pre-season by some distance and has started every game. He's a very different kind of player to Garnacho, and ten Hag is now implementing the style he used at Ajax, rather than a counter-attack, half-field press, as he has the last two seasons, which makes technical inside forwards like Amad, a more valuable type of player than the pacey wingers that were favoured the past two seasons. 2) Garnacho is a left winger who played on the right to fit Rashford in. Rashford is a very useful player because he's both fast and technical, and better at both aspects than Garnacho is. Garnacho is great but the main part of his game is skinning full-backs, and he's simply not that fast, so he looks a hundred times better coming off the bench against tired legs. He isn't going to be able to do what he did in the charity shield, if he starts. 3) Sancho, Rashford, Mount and Amad have all been learning the new system all summer and constantly rotating between the frontline positions during each match and between them took 95% of the minutes in pre-season. EtH's 4-2-3-1/4-2-4 high-press isn't a simple system to understand, especially for the front-line, and I can only assume that with most international players only being with the squad just over a week, we're not going to see any of them get the majority of minutes until after the next international break, as they learn the teams new tactical set up.
I'll rather have Smith-Rowe plus the 1m. The 6.5 & below players have too many downsides. Even Kudus is problematic because of West Ham's new signings. If you have an extra 0.5 Eze, they don't have Hodgson and Hodgson had that "we only lost 1-0" attitude despite Palace only having 1 shot on target. Glasner will have them creating chances especially with Wharton, Doucoure, Munoz & Kamada If you can find an extra 1m, Gordon. He's more explosive than Eze and Newcastle have the fixtures. There's a lot of goals in that Newcastle team
As a Chelsea fan, he will be pivotal. He's had a full pre-season and will likely start with Palmer, Madueke and Jackson. He may even play up front as a 9 until Jackson is back fully fit. He also had 3 goals in only 2 starts last season, and we know what he did in the Budesliga. He has the potential to be a 9mil+ asset. At 6.5 he is a steal.
I’m probably on an island here, but I don’t love the premium midfielders outside of Salah for game week 1. All the 9.5-10.5’s have concerns over mins due to Euros and/or poor fixtures. Don’t like the two 8.5’s either. That combined with Salah’s fixtures gets him into my team
I’m with you apart from Son who I think is a very good premium midfielder. But now Solanke is coming in, I see myself going for him at some point instead to get a spurs attacker

I was at the Brighton Villarreal game the other day and Barco was on alot of the free kicks in wide positions, put in a good amount of dangerous crosses in too! He pushes so high up the overlap with Mitoma on that left wing as always on and a major threat. Needs to improve quite a bit defensively though imo. Quite a few times he got caught out with through balls in behind because the line we were holding was so high. Barco also put in a couple of heavy tackles in that game (like Simeone esc), so don't be surprised if he grabs few yellows along the way either. Regardless a no brainer pick for me Great video as always Andy 👊

After twisting my roster back and forth like a Rubiks cube I went back to where I started. Elite players (Selah, Watkins, Saka, Trent Alexander-Arnold), some solid performers (Pickford, Eze, Isak), a couple of reliable defenders (Robinson, Mykolenko), lower cost players who might break through (Joao Pedro, Rogers, Quansah, Barco) and Pickford's backup (Virginia). What caused me issues was what to do about Haaling (I decided not to have tunnel vision about his WK2 game and focus on what I would have to give up to have him compared to the difference between him and Salah (or Watkins for that matter since I could afford him by going against Haaling). Then there was the Nkunku and Pedro dilemnas. I had this voice in my head (that sounded remarkably like Andy's) steering me onto Nkunko and off Joao Pedro. I may regret it, but I needed the savings from Joao Pedro and Rogers to underwrite players I wanted more. This should be a roster I can live with until the dust settles and we've seen who some of the emerging players and busts are. It's not exciting, it won't get me in the top ranks, but it should get me off to sustainably good start.
for me I'd much prefer Solanke over Pedro tbh considering the fixtures, I'm actually quite happy with the cheap defender options this season, especially after the point changes for defenders makes me happier with the cheaper options out there, to compensate i've got Raya for arsenal cover

I would suggest swapping the defense: Raya+Andersen instead of Henderson+Gabriel. Saves you 0.5, avoids the benching dilemma on Gabriel, while still retaining the Arsenal-Palace defense.
similiar except im taking a punt on Jota over garnacho, and Konsa and Mykolenko over Porro and Gabriel, 1.5m spare, and likely to change - feels like villa, everton, and fulham all rotate well defensively early on - but perhaps scope to move one up to Arsenal defender with 1.5m in bank.
Besides not wanting to block 3x Palace, the other reason for not getting Matthews is that I think Palace will sign another GK (probably as #2 to Henderson)

Atm I am sitting on something similiar but when i tinker a bit I see that if I go with ( Hall,Quansah , Van de Ven , Robinson and even with Munoz ) + two mid enablers ( 5.0 + 5.5 or 5.5 + 5.5) I can easily fit Saka , Salah and Haaland in the draft ? Not much flexibility tho
With you on Nkunku. They have so many players in their squad that command minutes, I doubt he gets a full 90 very often and I need to be convinced he can do it on this stage
With the news surrounding City’s positioning I’m jumping on the Bobb risk. Sanchez TAA, Munoz, Hall Gordon, Eze, Salah, Bobb Muniz, Haaland, Isak Matthew’s, Rogers, Robinson, Barco 90% on FFH Plenty of risk and I have players to move around before the deadline, ie, Gordon to Nkunku saves a mil to get Munoz up to Gvardial. Or muniz down to 4.5 fwd and get Bobb/Rogers up to a 6.5. There is plenty of value going around at those lower prices, just need to nail one. Will continue to tinker around though as always

Yes, and the 4.5 could be Andersen. Then you have the same Arsenal + Palace coverage but Gvardiol instead of Porro. Or if you don't like Gvardiol then it could be an Arsenal double up Another option could be TAA/Porro -> VVD/Gvardiol + 0.5m to spend elsewhere I'm personally going all out with Raya/VVD/Saliba/Gvardiol and risking Salah over Haaland
Swapped out saka for fernandes, allowed me to stick Isak and solanke up top, still have Gordon in that midfield, with Trent, Gabriel and Porro at the back
I have a very similar squad, but you have 1.5mil spare on your bench. With players like Barco & Winks, i feel fine going for cheap fodder. The extra cash has let me have Solanke over Pedro and Jota/Gordon over Garnacho. Gabriel to Lewis Hall is my other change to your squad. Think he will become Trippier-esque for 4.5mil this season and people are sleeping on him.

Really just depends if you want Haaland or not. I’d say he’s more crucial than Salah, but then again Pool’s fixtures are insane to start. I’d also say for draft B, Bruno in for Odegaard. Bruno’s influence on United is so obvious that i think if United improve on last year (they should as long as they stay healthy, their window was solid), Bruno should be in for a much bigger year
For me, there seems to be a lot of focus (not just by Andy here but also other FPL content creators in general) on picking a squad which is good for the first 5-6 weeks without considering making transfers - e.g., picking Saka over Son even if you think Son will score more points in the first 2 weeks. I know we can roll more transfers this season compared to last, and yes ideally you'd pick the perfect squad so you never have to make transfers, but I wonder whether trying to look too long term to save transfers might mean you miss out on points from shorter term players who can be brought in and out. Looking forward to the season!
because intentionally planning to book transfers in (outside of a wildcard) never goes to plan. Players can get injured/suspended, a defender playing as a winger could suddenly emerge, and the teams we expected to be good could be terrible.
Looks solid 👊🏼 Personally I think you’re underestimating the value of Barco in the first 4-5 weeks - to me he’s a fourth defender rather than a fifth and, with Robinson’s good fixtures as well, Barco will struggle to get in your team. Also having a 5.5 on the bench feels like quite a lot of value (even though it’s a rotation)… £5m mid and a small defensive downgrade could unlock Gordon or Solanke, for example 😊
Is Gordon no longer "essential"? I would have thought he would be one of the best midfield picks at the start of the season with Newcastles fixtures + his price. Are people scared he is gonna leave for Liverpool still or am I rating him too highly
I'd be very surprised if he gets a move to Liverpool. Not going to happen in this window I think. I think the cooling of interest in Gordon is more to do with the 7.5 price tag when people try to get TAA, Salah, Isak and Haaland in their teams. Hence Nkunku's popularity who is essentially an unknown at this stage. (in terms of fitness and the other 200 players in the shambolic Ch£ls£a money squad) Maybe if they stopped throwing money at the squad some of them could actually get a chance to play together for once. How convinced are we in premium defenders? I see everyone has them, but they were such a let down last season! What’s changed? Im on 5 * £4.5m, and I guess time will tell!
I've got a feeling that a lot of people are spending way too much on defenders. Look at the scores from last year, Porro was 4th highest scorer on 136, which is not a great return vs the 4.5s. And early season normally isn't a great time for any teams for clean sheets. 🤷♂️ I think ill stack the money into the attack at least until WC time and hope that extra cash pays off.

I’d move off of Saliba for a 4.5 (Andersen, Konsa, burn or Hall) then replace Henderson with Raya, then upgrade Dendoncker to a 5.0 like Rogers or maybe Amad. If you want to balance the mid even more I’d even say downgrade Eze to a 6.5 like Bailey or Gibbs-White and then upgrade that 5.0 midfielder to a 5.5 like Andreas, CHO or ESR
How do prices change based on initial ownership? So we know that price fluctuate based on how many people transfer in and out a certain player, but how does the starting ownership affect it? Are these considered as transfers or the baseline for the changes to then work from? For example, Isak is 56% owned. Will this lead to a massive increase in price on day 1 or will it only go up if it increases from 56%?
i have a similar team buy have quansah in for gabriel since quansah is nailed at least for the first few games and if he plays well will keep his place and i have gordon and jota instead of joao pedro and garnacho who imo will score higher then your picks....... idk how i feel about that draft seems too risky taking 2 players in ur starting 11 that have barely had a preseaon seems like heavy receny bias from the weekend fixtures

Great video, i disagree with a lot of it, but then again, i tend to end out at the end of the season sitting around the 1million mark , my current team is hoping for spurs to start good which when i read as i type is not something which traditionally happens, thankfully i have 4 spurs lads in my team, kulu, porro, son and solanke (got solanke in before he was changed in fpl so for this gameweek im not making any other changes, also in my squad are gvardiol, KDB, foden, i have isak as captain but also have scharr. Might be better to set it out Henderson Porro, gvardiol, saliba, scharr (bench mitchell) KDB, son, kulu (bench foden and smith rowe) Solanke, wood and isak(c) Im looking at leaving it run for first 2 gameweeks, to allow 4 spurs players against leicester and everton and then make changes, my hope is that spurs get enough points in those gameweeks to cover , its a bit of a gamble but might work, i have 3 man city for the 2nd gameweek against ipswich, i agree with your logic that jota is likely to get points when on the pitch
I think I am going with Salah over Haaland. I kept looking at Haaland because of GW 2, but in the end Salah has much better fixtures overall. It also gives me 2.5m to boost elsewhere.
Re Solanke, Bournemouth only got 2 penalties last season so he scored 17 goals in open play for a lesser attacking side than Spurs. He could be huge this season in my opinion even without pens but time will tell. Still, we have so many good forward options this season and you can't have them all.

similiar except im taking a punt on Jota over garnacho, and Konsa and Mykolenko over Porro and Gabriel, 1.5m spare, and likely to change - feels like villa, everton, and fulham all rotate well defensively early on - but perhaps scope to move one up to Arsenal defender with 1.5m in bank.
Besides not wanting to block 3x Palace, the other reason for not getting Matthews is that I think Palace will sign another GK (probably as #2 to Henderson)

Still dont like the Nkunku pick , overhyped. Are you confident with heavy at the back? Atm I am sitting on something similiar but when i tinker a bit I see that if I go with ( Hall,Quansah , Van de Ven , Robinson and even with Munoz ) + two mid enablers ( 5.0 + 5.5 or 5.5 + 5.5) I can easily fit Saka , Salah and Haaland in the draft ? Not much flexibility tho
Why you are so confident that Hall will be a starter? I see Burn there getting more starts this season

With you on Nkunku. They have so many players in their squad that command minutes, I doubt he gets a full 90 very often and I need to be convinced he can do it on this stage

Plenty of risk and I have players to move around before the deadline, ie, Gordon to Nkunku saves a mil to get Munoz up to Gvardial. Or muniz down to 4.5 fwd and get Bobb/Rogers up to a 6.5. There is plenty of value going around at those lower prices, just need to nail one. Will continue to tinker around though as always

Yes, and the 4.5 could be Andersen. Then you have the same Arsenal + Palace coverage but Gvardiol instead of Porro. Or if you don't like Gvardiol then it could be an Arsenal double up
Another option could be TAA/Porro -> VVD/Gvardiol + 0.5m to spend elsewhere
I'm personally going all out with Raya/VVD/Saliba/Gvardiol and risking Salah over Haaland
Swapped out saka for fernandes, allowed me to stick Isak and solanke up top, still have Gordon in that midfield, with Trent, Gabriel and Porro at the back
I have a very similar squad, but you have 1.5mil spare on your bench. With players like Barco & Winks, i feel fine going for cheap fodder.
The extra cash has let me have Solanke over Pedro and Jota/Gordon over Garnacho.
Gabriel to Lewis Hall is my other change to your squad. Think he will become Trippier-esque for 4.5mil this season and people are sleeping on him.

Really just depends if you want Haaland or not. I’d say he’s more crucial than Salah, but then again Pool’s fixtures are insane to start. I’d also say for draft B, Bruno in for Odegaard. Bruno’s influence on United is so obvious that i think if United improve on last year (they should as long as they stay healthy, their window was solid), Bruno should be in for a much bigger year

What's your thoughts of having a back three of Lewis hall, dalot and myklenko from Everton?
For me, there seems to be a lot of focus (not just by Andy here but also other FPL content creators in general) on picking a squad which is good for the first 5-6 weeks without considering making transfers - e.g., picking Saka over Son even if you think Son will score more points in the first 2 weeks.
I know we can roll more transfers this season compared to last, and yes ideally you'd pick the perfect squad so you never have to make transfers, but I wonder whether trying to look too long term to save transfers might mean you miss out on points from shorter term players who can be brought in and out.

because intentionally planning to book transfers in (outside of a wildcard) never goes to plan. Players can get injured/suspended, a defender playing as a winger could suddenly emerge, and the teams we expected to be good could be terrible.
Looks solid 👊🏼 Personally I think you’re underestimating the value of Barco in the first 4-5 weeks - to me he’s a fourth defender rather than a fifth and, with Robinson’s good fixtures as well, Barco will struggle to get in your team. Also having a 5.5 on the bench feels like quite a lot of value (even though it’s a rotation)… £5m mid and a small defensive downgrade could unlock Gordon or Solanke, for example 😊
If I was sure about Barco's minutes he'd be a 4th defender but don't want to risk it.

I'd be very surprised if he gets a move to Liverpool. Not going to happen in this window I think. I think the cooling of interest in Gordon is more to do with the 7.5 price tag when people try to get TAA, Salah, Isak and Haaland in their teams.
Hence Nkunku's popularity who is essentially an unknown at this stage. (in terms of fitness and the other 200 players in the shambolic Ch£ls£a money squad) Maybe if they stopped throwing money at the squad some of them could actually get a chance to play together for once.

I've got a feeling that a lot of people are spending way too much on defenders. Look at the scores from last year, Porro was 4th highest scorer on 136, which is not a great return vs the 4.5s. And early season normally isn't a great time for any teams for clean sheets. 🤷♂️
I think ill stack the money into the attack at least until WC time and hope that extra cash pays off.

I’d move off of Saliba for a 4.5 (Andersen, Konsa, burn or Hall) then replace Henderson with Raya, then upgrade Dendoncker to a 5.0 like Rogers or maybe Amad. If you want to balance the mid even more I’d even say downgrade Eze to a 6.5 like Bailey or Gibbs-White and then upgrade that 5.0 midfielder to a 5.5 like Andreas, CHO or ESR
Cover ARS with Raya, instead of Gabriel. Save .5. Plenty of defenders to choose
How do prices change based on initial ownership?
So we know that price fluctuate based on how many people transfer in and out a certain player, but how does the starting ownership affect it? Are these considered as transfers or the baseline for the changes to then work from?
For example, Isak is 56% owned. Will this lead to a massive increase in price on day 1 or will it only go up if it increases from 56%?

i have a similar team buy have quansah in for gabriel since quansah is nailed at least for the first few games and if he plays well will keep his place and i have gordon and jota instead of joao pedro and garnacho who imo will score higher then your picks....... idk how i feel about that draft seems too risky taking 2 players in ur starting 11 that have barely had a preseaon seems like heavy receny bias from the weekend fixtures

I think Elanga is the best 5.5m mid, his xG are highest (out of HO and GW) and his attempts are in the box

Great video, i disagree with a lot of it, but then again, i tend to end out at the end of the season sitting around the 1million mark , my current team is hoping for spurs to start good which when i read as i type is not something which traditionally happens, thankfully i have 4 spurs lads in my team, kulu, porro, son and solanke (got solanke in before he was changed in fpl so for this gameweek im not making any other changes, also in my squad are gvardiol, KDB, foden, i have isak as captain but also have scharr.

Im looking at leaving it run for first 2 gameweeks, to allow 4 spurs players against leicester and everton and then make changes, my hope is that spurs get enough points in those gameweeks to cover , its a bit of a gamble but might work, i have 3 man city for the 2nd gameweek against ipswich, i agree with your logic that jota is likely to get points when on the pitch
I think I am going with Salah over Haaland. I kept looking at Haaland because of GW 2, but in the end Salah has much better fixtures overall. It also gives me 2.5m to boost elsewhere.
Re Solanke, Bournemouth only got 2 penalties last season so he scored 17 goals in open play for a lesser attacking side than Spurs. He could be huge this season in my opinion even without pens but time will tell. Still, we have so many good forward options this season and you can't have them all.
