Galaxy brain when you realize that Falena aka bishonen Mufasa who's a literal king and metaphorical scholar is also a Kingscholar and that the surname refers to HIM, not Leona.
Book 2 felt like Leona wanted to finally beat someone who can best him. Malleus was a sick reminder that no matter what Leona does he will be constantly overshadowed. Lilia saying Leona will never be as good as Malleus was like, "You'll never be as good as Falena". I want to think he isn't as hostile to Malleus but still wants to beat him at one thing one way or the other
These 2 would make great Frenemies. To be fair, even though the 2 look like they wanted to kill each other so badly, they're also tolerable to each other.
I love how despite not being good terms both agree that avoiding a french la chasseur du amor is the best option to be safe 😂 (I lowkey have a sad headcannon that Mal, Vil sama and Leona used to be a pretty tight friend group as first years but later each of their personal strifes and issues slowly led them to drift apart tho Vil is trying his best to bond and reconnect with them both in all the events that can be put in the timeline after his overblot. I actually hope that Leona and Mal finally mend their bridges and the group becomes one yet again maybe even adding poor Idia into the mix since that king deserves it)
This is very cute, but Leona entered a year prior them in NRC, and he is still a 3rd year because he repeated. So I don't think they mingled before the current year (aside from bickering). especially not Vil, because both Leona and Malleus were housewardens the last year too.
I think a lot of people tend to focus on the more obvious reasons for Leona not liking Malleus, but I do think that it runs a bit deeper and more personal than that for Leona. I don’t see people talk about how much his first year at NRC probably meant to him. For the first time in his life, he was able to exist outside of the shadow of his brother and be properly appreciated for his strengths. More importantly, Leona finally got to be first, especially when it came to Spelldrive. Then comes along Malleus who completely destroys Savannahclaw, who has historically done well with the sport, with presumably little effort. What Leona managed to build for himself gets ripped away from him and he gets the abrupt and agonizing reminder that it doesn’t matter how much he tries, that he’ll always be second to someone born lucky. Any healing he managed to do in that one year from the emotional pain he suffered probably got undone in a second.
Malleona is one of my favorites ships/dynamic because these two have so much potential for a good relationship like besties or more , i hope in the future we get to see that happening
