Beautiful country, no music, just the motor and wind, very well done, I ride bigger machines mostly, used to 3500-4000at 70.but now I remember my cb450 used to rev up there at highway speeds too I think. It takes hp to push us. Thanks Dave
You're certainly not hurting the bike, just winding it out as Honda intended--I read they developed the Four in the 10-11krpm range plus redline! We've got a CVT transmission in a Fit and it drives me crazy unless it's in sport mode, it always wants to power down the motor to save fuel and it's never in its sweet spot. Not every MC rides like a Harley--in fact that's how guys grenade the rod bearings in the twincams--riding below 3krpm, too much stress on the bottom end and the transmission. They think that because the top end chatter is quieter they're doing their motor a favor when that's what should receive the wear because it's easily rebuilt.
@@adubbz23 carb gaskets obviously get weathered, but it's a cheap and easy fix. Carbs have been my only issues that needed attention. If you're model doesn't have automatic belt tensioner, you'll NEED to do that periodically. These bikes are pretty durable and nearly bullet proof.
hey! just watched your video. I am looking at buying a silver wing that's almost identical to yours. Do you have any advice for things to look over or thought since this video? looks to be a perfect starter bike and I was looking for some more information about it. Thanks in advance!
I was told that sometimes these bikes leak by the water pump. So check it out for leaks. also put it on its center stand and check the steering bearing. should turn smoothly. If it catches anywhere it will need replaced. Check the fork seals too. Anything the shop has to fix is not cheap! The ferring and windshield will stop a lot of wind. Thats nice if its cold or raining, but if its hot as ballsacks you get very little air. Also with that big ferring the bike catches a lot of wind. So windy days you need to be aware because it will push around. Im a bigger dude and this bike gets me around with no issues. Ive ran it 70mph, no prob. Overall this is a great bike and when maintained, you should get a lot of miles out of it. Hope this helps you!!
I have the identical bike and absolutely love it. I have had bigger and newer bikes and keep going back to the old small Hondas. Light and easy to handle. I also have a 1983 Honda VT500 Shadow. The GL500 engines are designed to rev. It doesn't hurt them at all. It is an under square engine design which means the piston bore is larger than the stroke. These bikes come alive at 7,000 rpm! Don't baby it thinking you are damaging it. These bikes will run over 100,000 miles with proper maintenance before a major tear down.
Too bad you couldn't replace the hub and drive shaft assembly with a different gear ratio I don't know if you could I don't know if you couldn't I have always loved the big touring bike because Dad used to have the thousand goldwing and I'll admit it that's too big for me my legs are not long enough LOL and it's a big pig that is exactly why they made the GL 500 in my opinion just like the CB750 they made several different versions of that one including the Honda matic I loved it but I've never owned one

Glad you enjoyed it
I'm thinking about getting a silverwing as my first bike!
good bike and good ride and awesome roads and views. Stay safe out there my friend
I so miss my 1982 GL500I Silver Wing Interstate! Superb motorbike. The 1983 GL650I was the ultimate...
My dad has an 83 goldwing and I just bought this one!!
My Honda NC has a sweet spot around 3800-4200 rpm. I think hondas like the rev. Nice ride and great bike. Ride safe

Not sure where/how you mounted your mic, but there is virtually zero wind noise! And that is a feat in itself right there! :-D
It was complete accident hahahaha
Nice video👍🏻 what is the topspeed and how much fuel does the tank hold and whats the gas avg milage? Best regards from Denmark.
I've just bought one 1982
I ride the 1983 silcerwing. These bikes are bullet proof. It all I buy.
What are basic issues with them thinking of picking one up

In my opinion, they are the Glock of bikes. They work no matter the abuse
@@michaelrussett1008 wow nice have a guy in town selling a 82 with 24k mi for only a grand
Nice video. Looks like NC.
Thanks. Not NC, good old Ohio.

An additional gear or taller gearing would be great, especially at 70 mph highway speed. That alone was the only reason I sold my silverwing.
If I had a dollar for every time I tried to put the SilverWing or my Shadow into 6th gear, I could afford a bike with a 6th gear. lol
