Jasmine Sweeting completely forgot I ever commented on this video. Wow how a year flies. I'm a TKE and we just welcomed a new fall pledge class a month ago. Good luck on your test
Why is everyone so passionately angry? I liked the melody, it really sticks in your head which is the whole point. If everybody is already an expert on Greek why are you watching this video?
I think this video is awesome!!! If you're not an expert in Greek, like David said...Why are you complaining??? I will be able to learn the alphabet for my class. Thank you!
Most helpful Greek alphabet video on TH-cam because you put the Greek alphabet into columns with 4 across. This is the easiest format for memorizing. The brain handles 4 alphabets at a time best. So Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta... pause... Epsilon, Zeta, Eta, Theta.... pause... etc. Also write the alphabet in this chart format for easiest memorization.
This song is amazingly catchy and I love it! My friend had to learn the Greek alphabet for her sorority and practiced infront of me and now, days later, I still have this song stuck in my head!
It worked for me! Songs always improves my memory. It is good for basic knowledge. I see a lot of comments saying that the pronunciation is wrong, but now at least we have some knowledge on it. We will be able to easily apply the correct pronunciation when we study more, but for someone who has no idea about the Greek alphabet in any capacity this song helps wonders. Thank you for posting this song!
Lots of negative comments.... I think this video is meant for people who want to learn the alphabet (maybe not the correct pronunciation but the words).
Obviously, this isn't the right pronunciation. If you tried to speak Spanish, do you think you could pick up the accent right away? Just be happy. :) This is completely for educational purposes, people.
+Philippe Jacquot (Hacyran) well, ancient Greek didn't use the "veeta" and "thelta" pronunciations. That said, several of the names in the song don't use the classical pronunciation either.
+Wild Child Not to be a smartass, but I actually picked up on the spanish accent immediately. Most likely because I have a background in Japanese and its very similar, but still :P
I was looking up how to say I love you and hello in other languages and I found Greek alphabet and it just occurred to me to click on it and it led me to the songs and I now I remembered the whole alphabet
It's obvious that she's singing the ancient greek alphabet and not the modern greek alphabet. Yes they look exactly the same, but different pronunciation. Great video! It helped me as you started to slow down and the repetition helped too.
if she's saying the wrong pronunciations and you're a know-it-all who knows the right ones, WHY on earth are you searching the greek alphabet on youtube anyways?
maybe they are wanting to learn the greek alphabet and don't know it. But, any book that teaches Greek tells you how to pronounce the vowels, vowel combinations, consonants, etc. and most videos teaching the Greek alphabet are already screwing up page one or two of most Greek language books.
this song is the shit and the only reason I will ace my quiz. The lady who made this deserves a thank you from probably 20,000 pledges. SAE GAMMA FALL 2012
@helltzo994 On thing I've noticed about the correct pronunciation of I is that when said quickly the I and O combine into a diphthong and make it sound very much like "yota".
I think the pronunciation is fine :/ If all of you know-it-alls would tell me how to pronounce them. That would be great instead of complaining about it. Just show us how you would pronounce them! I bet some people have different views of the pronunciation. I personally think this is basiclly on point.
The reason why is "Mu" & "Nu" instead of "Mi" (as in "miss") & "Ni" (as in "Nick") is simple. Τhe ancient greeks used the Upsilon (Ύψιλον) instaed of Iota (Γιώτα) -these two letters pronounced ALMOST the same in the word Mυ- to pronounce the Greek letter M. Greek "Μυ" became the english "Mu". The Greeks use letters that sounds ALMOST the same (Ο/Ω , Η/Ι/Υ or combinations: ΑΙ like E, OI/EI like H) in a very advanced way, for grammatical and pronunciation reasons. It's a very advanced language...
My teacher recommended this video to help me memorize the Greek alphabet and it is for homework and I don't have a lot of time to memorize it well maybe it doesn't seem like enough time 😥 which makes me worry.
Hi, im just trying to learn greek now. Am I right in thinking where we would say "A" they would say "Alpha"? Im confused as here in england we also use alpha as part of the phonic alphabet. Am I right in thinking instead of "A B C" they say "Alpha Beta Gammer"? Ie the full words not just the starting letter? Hope this makes sense :/
My mom used to sing me this song when I was a kid. To everyone complaining about the pronunciation of the characters, this is literally how we pronounce them in Midwest USA, idk how they are pronounced elsewhere.
@geiaaa89 If it is the Koine Greek alphabet though, nobody actually knows how the letters were originally pronounced... very little modern Greek (both words and pronunciations) is used in the US.
@heyitzeva13 This is how we say it for Fraternities and Sororities in America. Not sure why they changed the pronunciations for the letters, but it was done hundreds of years ago so it's much too hard to change now :). It's like calling Japan Japan even though they call themselves "Nippon."
I'm just learning this for our pledge test
Same! Sigma Alpha Omega Christian Sorority
Jasmine Sweeting completely forgot I ever commented on this video. Wow how a year flies. I'm a TKE and we just welcomed a new fall pledge class a month ago. Good luck on your test

I can agree to this, still stuck in my head 10 years later!
the way it literally has no rhyme or rhythm tho

this is actually extremely helpful, since I have one night to memorize it.
I like how this person's voice is more calm than most other videos like this
yes
can you make a 10 hour loop
+Tim Cerrie You can just right click on the video canvas, and there is a loop button. It's what I've done so I can listen while I do other activities.

Lots of negative comments....
I think this video is meant for people who want to learn the alphabet (maybe not the correct pronunciation but the words).
B β = for example ! that's not beta ! the correct is ! = Vita ! not English B . its not english, it must be as correct as greek sound ! thnx
Singer Taaj NiloofaR it's for sorority girls not actual greek people chill
it says greek alphabet song ! and as far as i know, its not that correct , now if its for sorority girls ! idk ;)
I'm here to learn the words, and memorize them from memory. This definitely helps with that!

This is very serious I don’t think this is something to joke about. I think this is hazing u should report them immediately
Obviously, this isn't the right pronunciation. If you tried to speak Spanish, do you think you could pick up the accent right away? Just be happy. :) This is completely for educational purposes, people.

This is closer to the song I learned as a pledge in the ‘90s. Can’t find the version I learned.
I was looking up how to say I love you and hello in other languages and I found Greek alphabet and it just occurred to me to click on it and it led me to the songs and I now I remembered the whole alphabet
Anyone else hear the beer being cracked at 0:23?
THANK YOU! You're the first with an actual useful song.

This helped bc it was on a loop basically and I need to listen to it for my test!
strangely hypnotic
if she's saying the wrong pronunciations and you're a know-it-all who knows the right ones, WHY on earth are you searching the greek alphabet on youtube anyways?
+Asterios Panagiotopoulos You missed the point. He/she asked why you're even on this video if you already know the correct pronunciation.
maybe they are wanting to learn the greek alphabet and don't know it. But, any book that teaches Greek tells you how to pronounce the vowels, vowel combinations, consonants, etc. and most videos teaching the Greek alphabet are already screwing up page one or two of most Greek language books.

Posted 11 years ago and has 2.2m views and I’m the first comment
This is truly strange
Maybe they turned off the comments for those 10+ years? I can't even remember if that was available back then lol😂
this has worked i know them so good thank you so much
My math teacher once sang this to us because we where leaning about how delta means change in equations.
@westerntrainmaniac
this is geared toward american greek life at colleges, aka sororities and fraternities, not the greek language
Omg this helped me so much in social studies. Thank you

@helltzo994 On thing I've noticed about the correct pronunciation of I is that when said quickly the I and O combine into a diphthong and make it sound very much like "yota".
We have to memorize this alphabet in my core class and this really helps! thanks :)
I love the spurious accent!
I think the pronunciation is fine :/
If all of you know-it-alls would tell me how to pronounce them. That would be great instead of complaining about it. Just show us how you would pronounce them! I bet some people have different views of the pronunciation. I personally think this is basiclly on point.
TYSM! MY 6TH ALPHABET I NOW KNOW! :D
Thank you i needed this for pledging
Successfully Pledging=Listen to this song 50 times.
this is how i learned it.thanx!!

Why I'm listening to this
I only want to write and read in Greek, I don't need the order in alphabet.
Yes, but you do need to know the alphabet
My mom used to sing me this song when I was a kid. To everyone complaining about the pronunciation of the characters, this is literally how we pronounce them in Midwest USA, idk how they are pronounced elsewhere.
I never knew there were other pronunciations😫 I guess us Midwesterner’s are just built different
Well youre just pronoumcing it wrong
@geiaaa89 If it is the Koine Greek alphabet though, nobody actually knows how the letters were originally pronounced... very little modern Greek (both words and pronunciations) is used in the US.
This is soooo helpful thank youuuuuuuuuuu
@alangname it's YPSILON because it have to start with the same letter as the one you want to say
thank you so much, it helped me on my quiz today
Great. Thanks 👍😁
My pre-calc teacher showed this in class and forced us to sing it 3 times. E.C. for singing this solo. ;D
@heyitzeva13 This is how we say it for Fraternities and Sororities in America. Not sure why they changed the pronunciations for the letters, but it was done hundreds of years ago so it's much too hard to change now :). It's like calling Japan Japan even though they call themselves "Nippon."
thank you so much! I learned to recite this in 2 sittings, and now I can say my alphabet a lot faster.
Ξξ Xi doesn't pronounced like this! It sounds like Ksi (csee for English speakers) like "eξtra extra..
Aξiom
I love who ever made this song
