The purpose of judging in competitions is to explain their thoughts! I don’t mean this to sound harsh at all, just to say, a contestant wanting an explanation for the likes/dislikes helps with their growth and to try to use the information to do better next time! It also helps for audience. :)

She could tell that the contestant was either misunderstanding her comment, or the contestant probably has some insecurities about their face and nicki understood that. I really like how reassuring she was and how humble she was in the moment. She acknowledges the fact she’s no make up artist but from her own observations she just feels that the makeup was half done and she probably just wanted the contestant to know that she knows they can do better.

Not saying she (Nicki) wrong as this is what she meant but some people have used this to passively say one is ugly. Such as other words such as that dress looks fat on you, it makes you look square, you outfit was not good. I don’t think that this person was putting words in her mouth or as ill intended as you make it seem. He might have genuinely thought that Nikki believed he was ugly or other drag queens could potentially do the same as in state that Nikki called him ugly.
