Sadly Rupert Neve has passed away at the age of 94. He was so fascinated about his career as a designer that he kept on working until he took his last breath. He will be missed.
Wow: "What he's got to start with before he can even define the type of piece that he wants is to listen to the real thing, listen to music, to become acquainted with real musical sounds, the nature and character of different instruments, and of instruments playing together, so that when he comes to make his recording he can do that with some integrity because he knows what he is aiming for." That's awesome!
Seriously. Most people can’t even sit down and brainstorm, write, rewrite, and edit a sentence of such perfect form and articulation - let alone speak it on the fly!
Can't even calculate how much knowledge is going to vanish from this world once Rupert passes away. Hopefully he'll live many more years in comfort and peace but for some reason this video reinforced how time make us fragile.
I was JUST thinking yesterday about how you're not supposed to meet your hero's because they never live up to your ideal, and usually destroy your love for their work and them at the same time. And yet, Rupert is a perfect example of how that's not always the case. He is who you'd think he is, and better. Just a gem of a man, and fascinating to listen to. Really something special. I know this is already 7 years old, but thank you for doing this...and everything else you do.
Truly fascinating! Every time I listen to Mr. Rupert Neve talk I become entranced with his wisdom and eloquence of speech. He has such an exquisite way of taking a complicated subject and making it so easy-to-understand. Perhaps it's his humility and grace that contributes to the success of his designs. I just recently purchased the Rupert Neve Portico-II Channel and I absolutely love it!
I don't know how music would sound like without "NEVE" and of course Dave and His team always give us the opportunity to be educated beyond where i probably imagined. Guys , Great show. Much Love..God Bless You all
Amazing Human Being! Music would never sound or feel like it does without this man Mr Rupert Neve... Thank You for your soul and gear and just being a wonderful giving person.... Thank you Dave and Herb!
I have used a variety of Neve products in the studio and for live sound applications. I often wanted to feel the spirit of the person who had created such killer tools. Electronics that become a true Art Medium. Now I know the Genesis. Thank you Mr. Pensado I love what you're doing for the art and science of music creation.
Thanks for all you do Dave!! The industry is better for the free knowledge you, your team and others like you are helping to spread in the audio world! You could unknowingly be tutoring your next favorite mix engineer!
It's rare that any interview with any truly great person is conducted with such knowledge of the person and his subject, but this delivered! Dave, you spoke his language, and that shone through in the ease with which Mr. Neve opened up to you. A special American interviewed a special Englishman, what an episode!
What an incredible interview to capture both the old days and the present of audio. Rupert Neve has done so much in his life toward his passion of creating quality audio, and is always doing better and greater.
This is beyond appreciated. Mr. Neve’s knowledge, wisdom and understanding of mics, sound, equipment design and his integrity to quality has positively effected and confirmed my deepest belief about music production.
I love how Mr. Neve places emphasis FIRST on the need to listen to music and the nature and character of different instruments instruments playing together etc...not gear...Outstanding!!
RIP Rupert Neve ! You gave us all a better understanding of tone! How your product plus the singer, impacts our ear was and is phenomenal! Thank you sir!
My two most admirated guys on the same place. Talent and generosity together. My admiration is now ever greater. Hats off!!!. I´m still one of those that cannot afford most of his gear (appart from the complete UAD Neve collection :-) )...but one of this days i´ll get hands on a SE RNT and a Shelford channel. Thanks guys.
Got a little choked up there at the end Dave. Cant says I blame you there. Would have been something special I bet to be there in that room talking to him I bet. You yourself are a down to earth cat man. Don't doubt yourself a sec if you ever do man!
Rupert is a fascinating man. It's interesting that faith permeates his perspective as an engineer and analog designer. I'd love to meet him and talk about much more technical aspects of his designs.
God bless you for MANY reasons Mr. Neve! For those who think scientific/technical brilliance and complete Godly faith are mutually exclusive - I present Mr. Rupert Neve.
Yes, here too. Though he may have little to say beyond being flattered. He said he's bored of the accolades for the old gear and interested in cleaner designs with more headroom. If you ever come across useful comparisons between the Vintech, Brent Averill and original Neve gear please post it. thx, -Vintech owner
Really no words, rupert neve is a genius, pensado handled this interview with such respect and class
Totally agree!
Rupert Neve is 87 years old and still pushing the envelope. Amazing to see.
Ben NCM from Newton abbot , Devon , England too. Near me!

Rupert is spot on with the shortcomings of PCM digital encoding and mics with over-bright top end artifacts. Thanks Rupert, Dave and Herb!

Yes, the least they could have attempted was some fine music.
I can't think of more of a disconnect than Rupert Neve and Rap.
