Funny thing is, Celeste wanted to die like a queen, or not like a common person. This is why she seemed unbothered or even happy at being burned at the stake. However, she was killed by the fire truck, hit by a speeding vehicle, a common cause of death. Monokuma spited her by giving her a commoner death.

20:32 technically, he went beyond self defense. He defended himself and scared her enough that she went to the bathroom to hide, then he walked away and came back with a tool to get the door open to finish her off. If he had stopped when she hid, it would be self defense. But he went out of his way to finish the job. That's not self defense anymore.
I think Leon had a fear of Sayaka coming back, or even snitching on him, so he wanted to finish her out out of those reasons, and probably anger
He admitted he was terrified she would come back to kill him. I mean imagine looking weak because all you could do to scare someone instead of actually harming them, he could have easily been considered killable because of that.
@@tfcbioshock I mean sure, but there's plenty of ways to go around that besides killing the other person. Heck if he managed to convince everyone that he bravely fended off his would be murderer, Leon could have used the situation to his advantage without resulting in death one way or another.
He actually didn't kill her out of self defense. It was an accident. He was trying to talk her down and tried to disarm her but accidentally stabbed her instead

The one thing that this video didn't say for the Leon thing was that although it started as self defense, Sayaka locked herself in the room and Leon broke in which changes it from self defense
While that’s a point made in the games, I think it’s also fair to argue that Leon was still acting in self-preservation. He knows that he’s trapped in a situation in which the only way out is through murder and that Sayaka just attempted to murder him. Sayaka had been presenting herself as scared and harmless, so that’s how most of the cast viewed her before uncovering her scheme in the trial. Because of that, if Leon had left her alive in the room, there’s no guarantee that the other students would believe his side of the story over hers and there’s no guarantee that Sayaka wouldn’t make a second attempt at killing him, as he’d still be trapped in the school with her. The other students might even become additional threats to him, if they suspect he had attacked Sayaka completely unprompted. Leon knew he had the upper hand in that moment, since Sayaka was disarmed and injured, so he could likely solidify himself as a killer instead of a future victim if he took action (and free himself from Hope’s Peak in the process, since he was unaware of the class trials at the time). While it likely wouldn’t be ruled self-defense because he had that opportunity to escape while leaving her alive, I can see how Leon could rationalize that he was still defending himself by killing her, in the sense that his life could remain endangered beyond that night if she had been left alive
And also about Hifumi, Celeste told him that Taka "assaulted" her along with also stealing Alter Ego

Mate, that video did Hifumi so dirty. He didn't kill to get Alter Ego back... or well, it wasn't his main reason. Nah, he killed because Celeste LIED TO HIM ABOUT BEING S.A.'D BY THE NOW UNPREDICTABLE SUPER SAIYAN. Hifumi has one of the most justified murders in the series, even if he was lied to, because let's be honest, YOU'RE not gonna doubt Celeste for a second if she told you she got S.A.'d and blackmailed. She effectively put the triple whammy on him of: an S.A. accusation, Alter Ego being destroyed (who is vital to everyone though I'll say he's not exactly thinking for everyone here), and Ishida planning to kill him too if he didn't do it first. That's what she told him, and people need stop doing my man dirty like this. Hifumi is a good boy and the reason everyone was even able to escape anyway thanks to his dying words connecting dots Kyoko wouldn't have had otherwise about their shared amnesia.

Leon's story is even more sad, dude literally joined the school so he could drop baseball. He wanted to become a musician, and then he dies to baseballs the thing he didn't actually like.

According to the original game, Junko can't lose. At least not by her own standards, as losing to her means she relishes in her victims' despair while spoiling her scheme means she get to relish in her *own* despair. Danganronpa 3 took this concept to its logical(?) conclusion by implying that Junko originally spared Makoto so she could experience the chance of someone ruining her schemes.
Fortunately, she's revealed to have a limit in 2. Since she's into despair because it's unpredictable, the way to truly defeat Junko is to make her bored by ruining her plans several times in a row.
Around 35:00 In the game, Celeste tells Hifumi that Taka did not-so-great things to her. So he believed he was killing a r*pist.

To clarify Celeste’s execution, she wanted to go out in an unusual way, like being burned at the stake. So Monokuma dangled that in front of her before sending a truck to hit her, making her one of many victims of traffic accidents. His last screw you to the gambler was to take away the death she wanted for one she didn’t.
To be fair, at least for the first game, no one had to do anything to survive. The murder thing was only to leave.

To defend Byakuya's ultimate status here, he is the ultimate progeny because he defeated all the other progenies. He was put in a competition with some of the richest heirs from the Togami family (he has about 100+ siblings). He was the poorest of all the heirs and only was able to complete by sneaking into the competition. He won and destroyed the reputations of the other heirs. Then he started managing his family's business and earned a fortune for himself, keep in mind this is a teenage kid. This is probably why he was one of the few people who were unfazed to be part of the killing game.
About Hifumi, his talent is Doujinshi Author. Which can be translated to fanfiction. However, what separates Doujins are more than not independent works. So he's more like a self published manga author.
How to beat is such a fun channel, although the presenter for this one is the how to beat for anime shows. They usually cover movies. Like horror and thriller movies like scream, the maze runner and really random movies about death games.
also the presenter for this one is down calamitas for a fictional teenage woman. Not saying hes a pedo but those remarks definitely made me spit out my drinks a few times.

This video did Mondo’s reasoning for killing Chihiro so dirty. The death of his brother is something he’s blamed himself for and been affected by ever since it happened. He even lied about how his brother died (instead of protecting him, he told them he just ran into a truck cuz he wasn’t paying attention) because he was scared of what they’d think of him if they knew that he killed their leader. Mondo is someone who has a lot of physical strength, but is incredibly weak mentally, especially after Daiya died. Mondo seeing Chihiro open up to him about his secret, and trying to push past it and improve felt like all of his failures were being pushed right in his face. And in a moment of weakness, a single moment, he made a mistake he’d regret for the rest of his time alive.
Sorry for rambling, that moment just really hit for me and seeing it described as “You killed him because he told you his secret” just made me sad.
Fun fact, in the manga it explains why Maizono chose to go after Leon! After Makoto fainted in the gym, Leon carried him back w Maizono. They got to talking and Maizono saw his soft side, so she saw him as an easy target. Her understating his actual strength was her downfall. I also think there was some hesitation on her side which gave an opening for him. And Leon’s killing her was also shown as an act of defense/accident. He didn’t go in just to stab her, he went in to try and talk and accidentally stabbed her. I think - it’s been a while since I revisited the manga/first game 😅
Also the games give way more details and character development. the first game anime sucks IMO. And the “can’t get caught rule” WAS in the game. It’s mentioned at the same time as it was in the anime - after Maizono’s death.
Leon was absolutely not self defense, it started as self defense, but eventualy Sayaka locked herself inside the bathroom, which Leon left the bedroom, went to get a knife, came back to the bedroom, got inside the bathroom and stabbed Sayaka killing her.

19:31 the only problem with the self defense argument for Leon, is that after leon successfully defended himself from Sayaka, she ran into Makoto’s bathroom, which had a broken handle. Leon, thinking it was locked, goes back to his room, grabs his toolbox, removes the handle, and then stabs her to death, so he could have stopped, but decided to go through with the murder instead, meaning self defense would have been thrown out the window

I got super into it during lockdown after seeing the Game Grumps play through of chapter 1 of the first game, it was such a trip. Goodbye Despair was my personal favourite, with the first and V3 following close behind

Saying "Danganronpa is insane" is a bit of an understatement.
The thing with Leon he defended himself successfully yes and then decided to kill when he could have just walked away. He went back to his room and then back to Makotos room to unlock the door.
Although in the manga apparently he tried to simply talk her down but ended up accidentally killing her with her knife. So less murder more being real fucking stupid

So yeah he's a manga artist, but it is fanfic manga and kinda treated in a similar manner to how fanfics are treated in the west in terms of reception, so I think this translation choice is reasonable

Actually, you can def be an ultimate gambler, there are tons of people who actually have gambling as their job and do pretty well throughout your life, you just gotta know how to play your cards well.

30:00 I reckon (and I could be wrong on this cause its not outright stated that this is why) that Byakuya didn't out Genocider Syo to make the game more interesting. I believe he probably did it to protect himself, keep in mind he was the target of an obsession from a girl who kills the guys she finds hot, and she is less likely to kill him if it would be obvious that she was the killer.

Edit: Also in what little defense I can give for Byakuya, he did say if he thought they'd vote him, he would've exposed Mondo on the spot. Whether or not that would work though is unclear. Also it's not because Monokuka is quote watching people bathe that he doesn't have cameras in the bathhouse. He tries to pretend like that's the case but Kyoko immediately calls him out that he wouldn't be able to see anything because the lenses would get fogged up😂

Technically, Junko did feel despair in the end, her being defeated at her game was basically the highest she could go, so killing herself with all of these executions would add onto all of it (or something like that)
The fact that our despair black and white bear is voice by Doraemon always want make me say "Nobita in this show going to have a worst luck possible. There no magic pocket here to help you, just clue and words" also, still love the twist of how the reason they all trap in the prison school is because it not a prison, it a bunker as the world on the outside got destory....
contrary to popular belief, leon was not actually killing to defend himself, he defended himself, wounded sayaka, sayaka hid and couldn't fight anymore, then leon went all the way to his own room, got a screwdriver, opened the door that sayaka was behind, and killed her

Omg I never thought you would make a video about Danganronpa! I'm one of the only people in the world who has read the side novels (And also I've been a fan of this franchise for many years lol. I've played them all, yes, even the board game one from 2020) so if any of this is inaccurate I'll list it here:
1. You wouldn't be able to poison the food until at least chapter 4 because the poison because the poison is locked away on another floor which is only accessible after at least three murders has occurred. Also you're not allowed to kill more than two people at once, however if multiple people died the only person that can be prosecuted is whoever committed the first murder.
2. Sayaka switched the name plates on the door so that Leon wouldn't know that it was actually makoto's room she was in. After the murder occurred she was planning on switching them back so people thought Leon died in makoto's room. (Also unrelated but in the manga Leon actually unintentionally killed Sayaka, it is unknown why they changed it sense in both the anime and the game his goal when going into the bathroom was to kill her but for some reason in the manga he accidentally fell on top of her while holding the knife)
3. Monokuma didn't tell anyone about the class trials until after the first murder occurred in all iterations of trigger happy havoc.
4. The reason the spears of gunear were mentioned is because mukuro / fake Junko was a part of the organization Feniar. It's foreshadowing.
5. The reason Mondo killed Chihiro wasn't because they were GNC, it was because when she hero came to Mondo in the boys locker room, they told them their secret and said they want to become strong like Mondo and not care what people think about them. Mondo thought this was tricky real making fun of him since all the things Chihiro described for the opposite of how Mondo felt about himself, he feels like he wasn't strong enough to protect his brother, and he's so shaken up at the idea of his secret being revealed that he ran away from his classmates. He also made a promise to his brother while he was dying that no matter what he wouldn't let anyone know that he was the cause of his brother's death (his older brother didn't want the gang to know the truth, it would cause them to hate Mondo). Ever since then Mondo's had a thing for promises between men so when he killed Chihiro he moved the body and all bloodied parts of the crime scene to the girls locker room so no one would know Chihiro's secret.
6. Can't believe it wasn't mentioned but the reason the crime scene was made to look like genocide Jack did the murder was because Byakuya actually found the dead body before everyone else and wanted to make things interesting so he strung up Chihiro'd corpse and wrote the message on the wall (nvm I just unpause the video in realize they mentioned it but I already wrote it so I'm keeping it here.)
7. The reason Mondo confessed was because he didn't want it to go on any longer, they had already pretty much figured it out and the only person who didn't believe it was Taka, the whole time he was defending him and mondo didn't want to see his friend hurting anymore, it was all so pointless because the only reason she was really trying to get away with murder was because he didn't want anybody finding out about Chihiro secret but they had already figured it out by then so there was no point in hiding it.
8. Throughout the third chapter after alter-ego is discovered Taka and Hifumi are always fighting over the laptop, the reason for this is alter ego briefly turned into Mondo to give encouraging words to Taka, and throughout the chapter hifumi has been... Uh... "Talking" with alter ego... Yeah. So anyways while they're fightingz Celeste comes up with a plan to get the 10 million dollars, she steals the laptop and lies to Hifumi telling him that she saw him take the laptop and he did not good things to force her into staying quiet. She then tells him the plan to kill Taka and make it look like hifumi and her were attacked by Yasuhiro, and then while everyone is distracted Celeste would kill someone else so they could both go free, but she ended up killing him.
9. The reason for Celeste execution is because Monokuma wants to cause everyone the most despair possible. Celeste wanted to go out in a memorable and unique way, therefore, being burned alive would be perfect for her, since most people don't die that way. Then she was hit and run over by a vehicle, which is one of the most common ways to die, in a car crash.

Y'all know what makes me sad? How many people talk about the GD third chapter and how hiyoko didn't deserve to die because she still had her whole character arc.
And then there's Ishimaru. My dude went through the 5 stages of grieve to finally get a hold of himself again and you think "wow they might actually do something with him. Like the tragic character that somehow survives while not really having much of a reason to live aside from them not wanting to disappoint their bestie/lover (looking at you shuichi) and BAM he just dies 💀👍

YES I absolutely love danganronpa at first I didn’t get the hype but then I watched bijuu Mike play through all 4 games (spin off included) I COMPLETELY understood and I was so engaged I’d try to figure out the murderer myself like what they used or what they did and why they did it and how they did it and I’d do it either whilst the video is playing or I’d pause it and guess so yeah I completely understand the hype for it and completely love the series (and I absolutely love the music which plays during the part where the main character is putting comic pieces together to say why it’s that person and how they did it but I can’t be bothered looking for the name of the mini game or whatever you’d call it so I’d greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me the name of the mini game or the music also the third game was the first one I myself felt despair because not only was the first main character of the third game executed but the maid was executed too)
