      Stephen King wrote in Rose Red: "Houses are alive. This is something we know. News from our nerve endings. If we're quiet, if we listen, we can hear houses breath. Sometimes, in the depth of the night, you can even hear them groan."

    A buddy of mine had a big old brick house on his farm that was built in 1905. It was abandoned in the early 80s and was in rough shape like this one. His sisters family ended up completely fixing it up and are living in it today! Would be cool to see something like that happen to this old house.

    Oh, how I love your videos! The lack of constant talking makes me almost feel like I'm there with you. I'm glad Garth was able to move and save the barn, and the house isn't yet beyond repair. The frame still looks pretty straight, square and sturdy.
    15:40 how strange to see the well right in the house. He must have prospected for water first, and then built the house over the dig. Very resourceful!
    OOH! And another original octopus-style furnace. That's two in a row! They're almost always long gone.
    That makeshift shower in the basement was most likely for the workers to clean up before entering the main part of the house. We ladies don't like manure-laden footwear on our floors, you know! lol
    21:00 all the phone numbers written on the wall sure bring back memories for me. It's what we did, back in the day.
    21:25 Turning the buttons will do nothing. That's a push-button light switch. The button with the white dot is ON, and the black is OFF.

    What an amazing house! I love the colors and the view of the windmill outside was a poignant reminder…for me anyway…of what once was. What stories this house could tell with all the families that once called it home. Was that a dog that had died? I love the sounds as you walk thru and touch things and the crunchy sounds under your feet.
    I used to go exploring with my dad and it never occurred to me to even think about taking something from the places we went.

The natural lighting was incredible and the basement looks so dry. The house has great bones and the floor plan is very inviting. Definitely a renovation worthy of some elbow grease! I do hope youre at least wearing a respirator as youre walking around, stirring up bat guano (rabies) and mouse poop (hanta virus) as you walk! You should probably be wearing gloves for everything you touch as well. And the thing by the phone that you well pulling and twisting was an electrical switch.....push the top one in, the bottom one pops out...completing the circuit.
    Oh, and that poor collie dog.....(looks more like a collie coloring than a coyote) and it appears like he chewed a hole in the wood before starvation took him. How was THAT allowed to happen?!? Ugh

    • @secondaryhighway
      @secondaryhighway  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

    To the creator I love these videos thank you for sharing ❤ I have a question or two?
    At the beginning is the wind sounds real if not nice touch …
    And I ask why do you think these families leave and never return kind of sad

    • @secondaryhighway
      @secondaryhighway  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      The wind is an audio track. Drones don’t record audio. So many reasons why houses become abandoned. The land is sold. The people die or move away. It’s too expensive to renovate and they’re kept standing for nostalgia and historical significance.
