Given Ivers' relationship to David Lynch early in the latter's career, one has to wonder how much of a role he might have played in Lynch's later work, had he not died so young: could he have become his main musical partner, instead of Angelo Badalamenti? How would this have affected works like "Blue Velvet," "Twin Peaks," and "Mulholland Drive"?
Thank you for covering Jaki Byard. He was a very distinctive player in that he could intermix "stride"-type piano while playing modern post-bop/hard bop lines as well. Swings like crazy! He was the teacher of current Jazz pianist Jason Moran, and you can hear Byard's influence in Moran's playing. Anyway, his death was always a sad mystery, but I suspect somehow a family member was involved.
Thanks for covering Peter Ivers' case. I had suggested it to you a while back as being a case that is really interesting and, with a lot of aspects to bath Peter's life and, his death. The first case with Jackie, I grew up in that area in Worcester. Nice to hear about such a bright light come up from my neighborhood. Sad that his life was taken after all his remarkable achievements.
If you ever wanted to do a "3 mysterious deaths of musicians" might I put up Paul Williams (of The Temptations - deemed suicide by more likely murder by the Detroit mob over a debt), Donny Hathaway (did he jump or did he fall?), and Larry Williams (R&B singer whose songs were covered by The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Creation, etc. - deemed suicide but more likely murder).
Maybe. He was shot through the bridge of the nose and the bullet traveled to the back of his neck and exited out his ear. News article doesn't mention anything about a pillow being used nor items being taken from the house.
