One thing that helped me feel better and not so homesick was to remind myself that it’s completely normal to feel sad or out of place and that eventually I’ll get past it. I had to almost allow myself to feel emotional about it. ❤

for me, what rly helps is repeating or creating new routines that u used to do in ur old space so it feels more homey, and comfort things like favorite tv shows or movies and meals also r a big help!

When I had my own place, I made it to where I would watch a movie every night I could in the living room. Getting popcorn or snacks, or reading a book in the living room. Something about spending time in that common area made me really enjoy the place I had bought for myself.

I recently moved into my new place and something that helped a lot was becoming more familiar with the coffee shops, bookstores, grocery stores etc that are closest to my new place and not just the places that I used to go to because they make things comfortable etc.

Moving out on your own is a huge thing you are doing great, pushing yourself outside your comfort zone is hard. I've started over 3 times with just my clothes; best advice is make it YOUR space, things that bring you joy, no matter what it is. You will get more comfortable over time there, also do a game night with friends it may help you feel less issolated and lonely, do weekly check in with someone too.

I struggled a lot with this when first moving out on my own. I’m close with both of my parents and very close with my sister. I met my person, my job was great, and I loved my new home but yet I felt so down and sad. Change is change whether it is good or bad. It takes a toll on us. It’s okay to miss how things used to be but now is the time to look forward to the future and be excited for all the new opportunities! Totally normal to feel what you are feeling!! ❤

I felt the same way when I moved into my first apartment. It’s hard to live alone! I would suggest making your space more cozy.
I noticed you have overhead lights, add more moody lights like lamps; string lights…etc. Also, add more rugs and curtains.
Lastly, host as much as you can. Invite people over to you and take the time to decorate, prep, and fill your home with laughter and good company!
Honestly, having more people over and making it comfortable for them-made me take more pride in my home and appreciate it. 😊

I wanted to share this because I felt similar to you when I moved into my new space and such. Not sure if you would relate to it but maybe another way of thinking of it.
This happened over a span of almost 10 years but I moved out of my parents for graduate school, in with a roommate, then an apartment with my bestfriend, then back to my parents, then into a house with people, then back home to my parents, then I bought my house where I had tenants in the basement and my ex-partner with me on the main floor, then a roommate, then my now partner. I always had feelings of wanting a space to be mine and in my control and vibes so there were a few times where I just lived alone but I realized that... I love living with someone. Despite the fact that I am neurotic and love things my way and get annoyed at people for not having the same habits as me, I would much rather deal with those than be alone. At first I thought it was because I was scared of being alone or had some trauma where I couldn't be alone but I think I just love sharing my life with someone, romantic or otherwise. I love being a part of a community and living with someone and people gave me that. Don't get me wrong, I still love my alone time but there's always times where I get to be alone like when my partner goes to work or out with his friends, and I really love those times because I can do my own thing, but I don't love them enough to want it all the time. It kind of reminds me of the saying "distance makes the heart grow fonder" where you don't get to experience something often but when you do, you really appreciate it. I appreciate and *need* the times when I'm alone in my space but it's the balance for me.
I'm not saying this is what you're experiencing but also, maybe it'll strike something within you :) I'm sorry you're still going through the thick of it but I know you'll figure it all out and what works for you.

Hey Ashley, I moved from France to Toronto back in 2014, I moved a lot before I found my old place, I stayed there 4 years and half before moving last October with my boyfriend. Moving in my own place after years living with roommates and so far from family was a big change. I took time to decorate my place to make it feel like my nest, I also create some habits with myself like little night by myself with food I like, a movie I like (I heard watching movies/TV shows you have already seen is comforting because you know what's coming). Having friends over once in a while helped too. But for me it was mostly the decoration part. Hope you feel better, patience is key. Always a pleasure to watch your vlogs!

Hey Ash! I love that quote by Mel Robbins too. Totally get what you’re going through. We moved house more than 5 years ago & I’ve yet to paint my room or organize it (sounds insane, right?) It’s so so so hard when you’re pining for the comfort of the familiar 😢 But I’m going to make a change as well. Starting now. Thanks for motivating me and giving me that push. Good luck with your physical therapy. It will definitely help you manage that pain in the long run. Lotsa ❤❤❤

I moved to my first own apartment when I was 18, and before that I lived in a group home for almost 3 years. I think my advice would be that no matter how many new habits and routines you create in your new space, never forget your "comfort things". For example, my comfort things were watching TH-cam content creators I've watched since I was 14 (you and Alisha, Zoella, and so on) and also having some of your comfort things with you in your new space, for example in my case I had my big teddy bear. Yes I know I'm 21, but my teddy bear was with me from my childhood home, to the group home, to my first apartment, to now when I live with my boyfriend. I think that just noticing small things in your day-day life that brings you happiness (inside your space) helps a lot too. But in my case, I moved in with my boyfriend, and I have never felt more at home, more at peace in my life. But living alone does teach you a lot. And whatever feelings come, let them. Love you xx (sorry if I didn't make sense haha)

It actually takes a year or two to really make a place really feel like your home. There are a lot of reasons for this, but time is the overall reason. We, as people, love to rush things. But transitions take time and you need to be kind to yourself when you are going through a transition. Living on your own for the first time is huge. It's like you are remapping your brain a bit; you have to do everything and you suddenly don't have your support system with you, physically anyways. (Talking about your sister ). Don't know if any of that makes sense or is useful. These are just some thoughts from the things I said to myself when I lived in my own for the first time.

Ashley, maybe you feel this way because you know at some point in the future you will be moving out and buying a house/apartment so this is why you are not completely feeling that this is your place.

Ashley, I think you're getting a bit too concentrated on making this new home your home. It can't be that easy, especially when you compare it to different 'homes' where you've lived for years. Thinking about it will make it more difficult and it puts subconscious pressure on your brain.. Just live your life every day the way you would if you were still living at Alisha's, after a while - without noticing, you'll start to crave coming to it and you won't like to leave because you're so comfortable there.
Plus, maybe you subconsciously think that this is your temporary home so maybe it's also related to that and you should try to make it clearer to your brain what you really plan to do there.

    • @kate-ne

Organic produce is meant to imply that it was grown without the help of added chemicals such as pesticides. 🙂

I love your vulnerability!!! I think that just like you were doing with having Alisha come over for a night, something that may help you in this new adjustment is scheduling dates and nights you are going to host your friends at your house to continue creating memories in your new place and establishing a stronger sense of ownership or connection of your space...if that makes any sense? Based of what I see in your videos it seems like you do this already, but maybe intentionally having friend over for a night or hosting a girls night weekly could make a difference...also continuing to schedule your favorite activities and taking bits and pieces from the routine you had while living with Alisha and doing those things now may make the transition feel less weird. I understand where you're coming from and think its important to let yourself feel this way!!! You're figuring out how to navigate this newness....I love your videos and have for a really long time
