Chennai central station sucks big time.
Theft is common.
As an NRI returning to India after being abroad for 20 plus years, i had a bad exprirence in 2016. I lost my backpack soon after entering the compartment and putting it on the rack. Train was still in the station. Railway police in chennai is corrupt and did not help. I lost a lot of valuables including a laptop.
India is a very corrupt nation where citizens don'tfeel empowered or secure.
Modi is trying to change that but it will take a long time.
Tamil Nadu is ruled by a family that is corrupt to the core and so is the police there.

I have travelled in trains in USA, Europe, Malaysia, Philippines but all the services in this countires now seems mediocre in compared to India. If malaysia is 5 years behind Indian railways then usa and europe countries are 10 years behind. In indian trains you get food and all services in the train, in europe, you dont even get free drinking water.
