Fun fact, Hoover was 7 years old when Garfield was assassinated as mentioned And he would live all the way to the assassination of John F Kennedy, when he was 89 years old only died one year later
My great great grandpa was born in January 1865 and died in 1971 aged 106 he saw every single assassination I also still remember I was in college when jfk was killed
@@thegeoinnitreator Screw the raw cherries Zachary Taylor ate aswell. He was the first president to actually do something in favor of the Free Soil movement and Abolitionists (admitting california as a free state)
I've always wondered about the reactions of Presidents during this time. I love seeing all the old photos of the Presidents especially the ones where they're young, cause you rarely get to see them cause we almost always get the photos when they're older. I love your vids, one of the things I look forward to in my life, and seeing the notification makes my day.
There were no former presidents alive around time, Nixon is the most recent president to leave office with no living predecessors, but JFK probably would’ve been alive around that time if he wasn’t assassinated and lived through his presidency. There were 9 future presidents alive which include Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George HW Bush, Bill Clinton, George W Bush, Brack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden.
As always, great and interesting video! I don't know if you take suggestions, but I would love to see your insights into the most famous political families in modern politics and if they have family still involved today. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you very much for making such a good video. Could you please make a video of other presidents' reactions to the assassination attempts of President Reagan and President Trump?
Video Idea: How Presidents voted in each Presidential Election (this would be a long one unless its only for modern presidents like 2001-2025, or maybe early presidents)
Whats even more sad is that his assassin Charles J Guiteau will be remembered more than his victim in the minds of history admirers, as he had a wild adventure filled with denial and narcissism.
It was normal at the time for the president to president to travel without security and for his movements to be published in advance. Even when Congress did approve security for the president it wasn't taken that seriously until the assassination of McKinley.
Video Idea: all of the contemporaneous presidents' reactions to Napoleon Bonaparte, and if that changed towards the end of Napoleon's reign over France.
Hot take. As a society and a country, the United States peaked from the late 1870s up until the mid 1910s. Those were times we had consecutively great Presidents (except Harrison & Wilson)
Maybe I’m being nitpicky, but is it really necessary to include a president’s middle initial or name when no duplicate first and last names exist? To word it differently, is it really necessary to say, for example, James *K* Polk, or Warren *G* Harding? Couldn’t you just say “James Polk” or “Warren Harding” respectively? If you ask me, including a middle initial or full middle name is only necessary in cases where there are two presidents with the exact same first and last names, such as John Adams or George Bush, each having two presidents with the exact same first and last names.
Fun fact, Hoover was 7 years old when Garfield was assassinated as mentioned
And he would live all the way to the assassination of John F Kennedy, when he was 89 years old only died one year later
Wow, so Hoover was alive for three of the four presidential assassinations and for five of the eight total presidential deaths in office.
My great great grandpa was born in January 1865 and died in 1971 aged 106 he saw every single assassination I also still remember I was in college when jfk was killed
It is a shame that James Garfield had to die, he would have been a great president

@WhiteboardMario198 SCREW DC WATER IN THE 1840S THAT AFFECTED HARRISON, POLK, AND TAYLOR
True
Garfield died on a Monday. Kinda makes sense why he hated Mondays.
Now THATS a coincidence
I have always hated Mondays, now one more reason why
Kind of puts the lasagna in perspective.
Now we need McKinley
Indeed, poor man. He's of great interest to me.
McKinley was also the last president to have served in the Civil War

Arthur's reaction was heartbreaking.... glad he redeemed himself by signing the Pendleton Act
Great to see this in my feed. Thanks a lot!
Very pleasantly surprised to see a full video on the topic. Honestly didn't think it was possible since he was only president for 6 months
The saddest part is that he could have been saved if it wasn't for the doctors. It's pretty ironic.
Your videos are a breath of fresh air when it comes to History content on TH-cam. So glad you’re back!
Do William McKinley next!
How did the early Presidents react to the death of Benjamin Franklin?
My Grandfather, who was born in 1880, was named after President Garfield which hints as to how popular he was before his assassination.
My last name is Garfield and my grandfather was named James, although I dont believe he was named after the President
Ayeeee it’s about time for another video! ❤
Thank you for adding some more unique photos alongside with the 'known' photos, a lot of these I haven't seen before!
Could you do a video of presidents reacting to the William McKinley assassination?
Congrats on 30k
Honey, new Resyndicated vid just dropped!
When will you resume the series you were doing on "Ten Facts About US Presidents"? (Probably didn't get the title exactly right, but close enough.)
I have the weirdest Mandela effect that this man lived and Chester A. Arthur never existed
the world is a constant test for you
Honestly I was waiting for you to make these videos again I’m so happy to see your back!!
Video idea: other president’s reaction to the resignation of Richard Nixon
There was no prior presidents alive when Nixon resigned. Truman/Eisenhower/LBJ/Kennedy all died before his resignation
There were no former presidents alive around time, Nixon is the most recent president to leave office with no living predecessors, but JFK probably would’ve been alive around that time if he wasn’t assassinated and lived through his presidency. I'm heartbroken any time anybody brings up James A. Garfield.
What a loss.

It would be cool if you do one for Pearl Harbor, Fall of the Berlin Wall/Soviet Union and maybe in the future one for Covid 19.
Nice to see other's reaction to one of the assassination's swept under the rug. Love these videos!
Been waiting for this video!!!
2 idea sugesstions for a reaction, how did many people react to william h harrison's death and john tyler ascending to the presidency
Thank you very much for making such a good video. Could you please make a video of other presidents' reactions to the assassination attempts of President Reagan and President Trump?
Good video, I give you a suggestion: how the presidents reacted at the beginning of the civil war or one of the 2 world wars
Little did they know Garfield's killer was just crazy.
Also sorrowing how Grant essentually shed some tears over the rise of political violence.
Can you do William McKinley next?
Finally this topic! As always W video! Will you do this about other presidents who died in office?
He's done videos about this for Kennedy and Lincoln as well!
Video Idea: How Presidents voted in each Presidential Election (this would be a long one unless its only for modern presidents like 2001-2025, or maybe early presidents)
If you do McKinley after can you do how presidents reacted to Washington’s death
you should site your sources in the description
Society if Garfield didn’t die: 🗿
Whats even more sad is that his assassin Charles J Guiteau will be remembered more than his victim in the minds of history admirers, as he had a wild adventure filled with denial and narcissism.
Harding is not 15 in that photo lmao 10:37
RIP Garfield, the Untied States shall forever mourn
Doing one on the deaths William Henry Harrison and Taylor would be interesting!
And Harding and FDR!
Exactly
Love this channel, there’s very few people out here who cover presidential politics in the way you do. Keep up the good work. 🫡
James A. Garfield was a smart guy, but he did something really stupid which led to his assassination.
It was normal at the time for the president to president to travel without security and for his movements to be published in advance. Even when Congress did approve security for the president it wasn't taken that seriously until the assassination of McKinley.
You should do topic to all presidents who died in office
New video lets goo
this is helping me learn thnxs
Video Idea: all of the contemporaneous presidents' reactions to Napoleon Bonaparte, and if that changed towards the end of Napoleon's reign over France.
