Kevin is a classically trained cello player and has been playing since he was a child. As you saw, he can beat box at the same time. He posted a youtube video of him celloboxing which inspired the others to contact him when they needed a beatboxer to form PTX. He had to finish taking his finals first because he was about to graduate from Yale. He literally met the others the day before the audition for the Sing Off. They hadn't known each other before. Kevin was recruited into the group. and he speaks fluent Mandarin. He is one of those rare people who has both hemispheres of his brain active. He can do the creative musical stuff and geeky scientific stuff. His plan was to go to medical school but he got "sidetracked" and won three Grammys instead.
and, yes, that was Mitch. It is always Mitch. and it is always Kirstin. They change their looks a lot but they are always there. Lindsey Stirling is a violinist who has done literally hundreds of concerts around the world. The big question from this video is which is more impressive: beatboxing while playing the cello or dancing while playing the violin?
Love Kevin but dancing while playing an instrument is hard. My son is in matching band and there is a reason their band doesn't have string instruments.
@@mtl.3333 my older son beatboxes a little and plays guitar. He says he can dance while doing it too as long as no one expects him to learn choreography 😂
To get a fuller appreciation of the talents of Kevin Olusola you need to react to one of his "KOvers" from his personal YT channel. Not only is he a world-class beatboxer, he is also a master at the cello and saxophone having played both at Carnegie Hall while still in high school and a skilled singer with a tenor voice. He even created his own skill called "celloboxing" where he plays cello and beatboxes at the same time, which you just were introduced to. It was a video of this that he posted that convinced the others to ask him to join the group for their victorious run on 'The Sing Off'. On the side he has been experimenting with live looping which allows him to construct entire performances by himself which he appropriately calls KOvers because they are so much more than a cover. The best one I can think of to start with is his rendition of 'Down' by Marion Hill. It has a sample of each of his talents and also contains a face-melting electric cello solo. Good luck, for you might just find yourself in another rabbit hole.
I second all of the above. Kevin is amazing. I was so hung up on Avi when I first discovered this band that I don't think I properly appreciated ANY of the others. That has changed. I hope you'll react to one of Kevin's KOvers VERY soon--and I'm with Jay Holland: the one to start with is "Down."
Kevin's KOver (he goes by KO, so this is pretty clever of him) "Down" is a good place to start. It is a WILD ride though, so buckle up. He really showcases his talent in this and his other KOvers by doing a single take, looping, one-man-show where he sings, plays electric cello and produces all at the same time. And it's crazy good.
If you loved this you should watch their cover of "Papaoutai", it also features Lindsey Stirling and Kevin on the cello, PLUS!! Scott sings the intire thing in French!! It's one of my sleeper favorites, you would LOVE it
Yes, one of my faves as well. Just don't think people can get past the French...Although I have seen a young French lady react to the song and said his French was right on point.
As a Canadian you'll probably understand most of the french in Papaourtai. :) Great tune, sad meaning.... but understanding the story helps you understand the video. :)
The few times that they use instruments they are prominently featured in the videos so there is no "tricks" or confusion. Other that feature Kevin celloboxing are 'Say Something', 'Shallow', 'Perfect', and 'Dancing On My Own'.
Lindsey Stirling was a contestant on America’s Got Talent several years ago. She plays the violin & dances at the same time. She’s pretty incredible! A huge talent in her own right! 😍
She was on Dancing With The Stars also! She is amazing. Pentatonix did feature artists quite a bit earlier on. Two with Stirling, I forgot the guys name....If Ever I Fall In Love, Several others..
Mitch and Kirstie are shape shifters. You can always tell what time frame the song is from because of their distinct looks. I love this song. The addition of the violin and cello adds a cool aspect. If there is an instrument in a PTX video, you will see it in the video. They don’t hide it or try to cover it up. I like that. The original of this song is also worth checking out. Very cool. :) great reaction i love your ptx videos.
another fantastic ptx cover that feature Kevin's cello playing is Say Something (A Great Big World/Christina Aguilera). It also does a great job of showcasing all five singing voices
"Shallow" has great cello-boxing skills from Kevin with Kirstie singing lead like you asked for. Awesome song/video by PTX, original by Lady GaGa and Bradley Cooper.
This collab Lindsey Stirling had with PTX led me to her music. She is excellent, and her videos and performances also showcase her own "nerdy" interests as well. I'd suggest checking her out :), For another showcase of Kevin's Cello in a PTX video I'd recommend "Say Something". Thanks for your reaction, I enjoyed it very much
Lindsey Sterling is legendary with 10s of millions of views if not over half a billion plus . She is an OG of TH-cam music. Look her up! He is a classically trained cellist. Pianist and Saxophonist. A Yale pre med graduate who speaks at least 4 languages and that is a music video.

It's always Mitch, Lindsey Stirling is awesome playing that violin, Shatter Me ft. Lzzy Hale is spectacular, the other two I really enjoy is Roundtable Rival and the Arena. Kevin plays the cello, saxophone and has played at Carnigie Hall by 17 years old, he gives the name over achiever a run for its money, really have to react to Down done by Kevin Olusola on his TH-cam channel.

Almost every one has explained how awesome Kevin is. Mitch lost weight over time, and you can tell what time in their career they are in by the length of Avi's hair and beard. Lindsey Stirling dances and play violin, one of my favorite videos of her is Carol of the Bells.
I will second what others have said, you should definitely check out Kevin Olusola's channel and see his other stuff. He's been playing the cello since he was like 8, he plays other instruments too. And you should also check out Lindsey Stirling's channel too, if you like the violin you will love all her work!!! She dances while she plays and she does actually sing a little bit in a couple of her songs. And yes, that was Mitch. Check out PTX's other collab with Lindsey, Papataoutai, it's all in french.

This is one of two collabs PTX did with Lindsey Sterling the other one is Papaoutai, which you might want to react to also. Kevin is multitalented and plays piano, cello, and Saxophone. PTX actually brought him into the group because of his Celloboxing, and not just his beatboxing. Lindsey Sterling is a wonderful violinist, and I'm pretty sure you will now get requests to react to her music also. She also has a YT channel with millions of subscribers.
Lindsey Stirling is incredible live. She sells out concerts around the world. I've had the privilege of seeing her several times in concert. She puts on amazing shows and her music videos are breathtaking. You should check out her newest one that came out yesterday, Til The Light Goes Out.
I love this song and video so much, so glad you enjoyed it!! It was my first introduction to PTX and I was enthralled from the beginning. I love that you pointed all the things I love about it too - the atmospheric feel, the way they weave in the instruments and the ebb and flow of their sound, their looks and outfits. Post-apocalyptic nerdy stuff is my jam too 😂 I love so much of PTX but this one is my absolute favorite 💖
What fun. Your reaction is on the mark. Fun, questioning some of what you are seeing and hearing. So great to see someone Who gets excited about the performance. Believe I am seeing a true reaction. Love ya.
Kevin plays the cello, the saxophone and the piano. Both Scott and Mitch play the piano (which Mitch has let drift to the side as his interest on turntables grew) and I heard Avi plays guitar, though I've never actually seen him do do. Lindsey Stirling is an accomplished violinist and has had many collaborations with artists from different musical backgrounds, both musicians and singers. If you have a thing for violin, you should check her videos. And you're more than ready for the K-Overs!
Yup that’s Mitch. This was the first video of PTX that I ever saw and remember thinking he was cute then. Watching him transform into a being of radiant awesomeness over the years has been something.
Great reaction! Yes, Kevin is cello boxing, you’ll find that with their covers of Shallow, Say something, Papaoutai with Lindsay again. And if you do That’s Christmas to me, you’ll see baby Kevin playing cello, so cute. He has his own channel, check it out !
Just so you know, most of the PTX members also have side projects and solo channels. So just in case you're curious and want to dabble across accounts, I'm sure you'll find some other gems you'll love. :)
You've GOT to check out some of Lindsey Sterling's videos... she's INSANE. The way she can keep playing and do all the crazy dance moves at the same time is just bonkers.
Kevin plays the cello and the saxophone. He’s quite accomplished and has played at Carnegie Hall. He also graduated from Yale, and speaks fluent Mandarin.
Kevin was a professional cellist before he met PTX. Also was a med student, speaks fluent Mandarin. They discovered him on TH-cam "cello boxing" . Lindsey Stirling is a woman who plays the violin. Kirsten mostly wrote, and starred in Be My. Eyes.
This was actually my first PTX song! After 30 seconds, I was HOOKED and have been a Pentaholic ever since🥰 I love your reactions! Very genuine and thoughtful. I don’t think this gets requested a lot (no idea why, it’s GORGEOUS), but I’d love to see you react to their cover of Where Are Ü Now. Thanks!
Hallo everyone, the next PTX video PLEASE !!!!!!!!! "Mary did you know" this is a must. Everyone please help me to get the song next, pritty please. 💗 Stay save, take care and be good to your self😘
You need to check out Kevin's original viral video. He is cello-boxing. It was the video that convinced Scott and the others he needed to be in their group. th-cam.com/video/NKVNrrrNxU0/w-d-xo.html Also, check out KO's solo work on KOvers. He really shows off his musicianship. Lindsay has done this video with PTX, plus Papaoutai, a cover of a great song in video. The original and PTX's cover are both sung in french. Again you have Lindsay dancing around with her violin and Kevin with his cello. And as mentioned that was Mitch in his early days in Pentatonix, he was probably barely 20 or 21 at the time of the video. He is now thinner, and doesn't so much have the boy next door looks. We long term fans have watched him, grow, change and become the strong person who is not afraid to put his true self out there.
This was my intro to PTX. Love this so much. I stumbled across it looking for the Imagine Dragons' Original version. I fell in love... Yes it is Mitch! It is always Mitch.
That Kevin playing cello and yes that’s Mitch. He changes up his look a lot. And Lindsey Sterling is the violinist and she composes her own music. I’m surprised you don’t know who she is.
If you like violins, then Lindsey Sterling would be right up your alley. I like a lot of her stuff. Someone below mentions Roundtable, but I would also recommend Shadows, Senbonzakura, Prism as well!
Lindsey is the violinist. She has her own music too but she also does a lot of collabs. Check out the song SHE wrote called "Shatter Me" featuring Lizzy Hale from Halestorm. You might check out her first real video called Crystallize...it's dub step violin and it's incredible ♥♥♥. And yes, Kevin is playing a cello here. They rarely ever use instruments, but since Lindsey collabed with them on this, they thought the cello would go well with her violin...and they were right :D Edit: Yes that IS Mitch. Different hairstyle can completely change a person :D
That is how Scott, Kristin, and Mitch found Kevin. They saw a YT video of him cello-boxing, and got in contact with him to do the Sing Off (season 3) A Capella singing competition. What I am saying is Kevin was cello-boxing way before joining PTX. You really should watch their Sing Off performances. Lindsey Sterling is super well known for her playing the violin while dancing. She was even on America's Got Talent. She is awesome. I really liked here with the Piano Guys doing Mission Impossible theme song.

Finally number 6 because I forgot it the first time I was in here " Video Killed the Radio Star " it's from when they were doing the game show that propelled them into being Superstars and one of my favorite songs
You need to check out PTX's The Sound of Silence! And also Avi Kaplan's Change on the Rise! Both amazing songs. It's so amazing watching someone be drawn down the PTX rabbit hole and become a Pentaholic!
Big YES to 'Change on the Rise.'
Newfie, as someone who plays violin my heart was warmed when you said it makes everything better…we tend to agree 😊💜🎻
Kevin's cello is named "Beyonce". Watch him do some solo work. "Marion Down" by KO, Keven Olusala.
Just so there's no confusion: The name of the song is "Down." Marion Hill is the original artist. And Kevin's name is spelled Kevin Olusola. No offense intended--just worry that someone might search for the song and not find it.
Kevin also has an electronic cello. I believe it's name is Mr. Carter?
Yes, it’s our chameleon Mitch! Yes, it’s Kevin celloboxing which he invented! Yes, they did a song with Lindsey in French, too. Yes, the theming was epic! Yes, you can hear more of Kevin’s cello skills in Shallow or Perfect! His TH-cam channel is KO, where he posts his KOvers! Love your energy filled reactions!
So nice that you checked out this one, this is the first video that made me love them !
If you want to hear Kirsty you should listen to their versions of Say something, Shallow or Can you feel the love tonight ;)
And I can't believe that you didn't do The Sound of Silence yet !!
I second the Sound of Silence!
Avi is just...impossibly hot in this video. *fans self* He looks amazing with apocalypse all over him. Just sayin.
Preach.
I agree 100%!!
He's undoubtedly aesthetically pleasing in this video! And that stare...
Lindsey Stirling is a great performer in her own right. She is a great singer/ violinist /dancer .
Love watching your reactions! You're authentically funny. Just keep being yourself! :) Hugs, from Brazil.
You must find Lindsey Sterling's vid's too. She is amazingly talented! And this collaboration was such a treat!
anytime you have to ask is that mitch? Yeah it's him and Kevin is celloboxing. Lindsey has some great videos out
Lindsey is amazing, I discovered PTX because of her, of this song
So glad you liked this..wooot
What fun. Your reaction is on the mark. Fun, questioning some of what you are seeing and hearing. So great to see someone Who gets excited about the performance. Believe I am seeing a true reaction. Love ya.
It's Mitck. He's a chameleon. We never know how he's going to look!!! Kevin pretty much invented "CELLO-BOXING".
Lindsey Stirling is a professional violinist! She was on America's Got Talent at one point some years ago I believe.
It’s an early Mitch before he lost the weight😄
Watching him transform into a being of radiant awesomeness over the years has been something.
yes Kevin plays the Cello, yes that's mitch. lol
The pause at 3:44 has me crying laughing because he named everyone and still didn't believe it was Mitch lmaooo.
need to add lindsey to your watch list
Great reaction! Yes, Kevin is cello boxing, you’ll find that with their covers of Shallow, Say something, Papaoutai with Lindsay again. And if you do That’s Christmas to me, you’ll see baby Kevin playing cello, so cute. He has his own channel, check it out !
You have to check out Lindsey Stirling. She is a violinist and she is extraordinary.
Hope you react to Kevin's cover of "Down"...he will blow you away ❤️
Yes...that's Mitch with the Pitch..he is a super chameleon 😁
Lindsey Stirling is incredible! Her Shatter Me and Lost Girls (in that order), shares a powerful message!
Lindsey Stirling is amazing! Roundtable Revival, Elements & Crystallize are my faves!
Just so you know, most of the PTX members also have side projects and solo channels. So just in case you're curious and want to dabble across accounts, I'm sure you'll find some other gems you'll love. :)
Hey bud hope you are well....
You missed the behind the scenes of the video. But awesome reaction as usual.
Lindsay Sterling joins John Legend on All of you, just beautiful, check it out. She has lots of different artists sing while she plays violin.
I was lucky enough to hear Imagine Dragons do this song in concert (like right at the front). This version is every bit as good as the original.
Eyes.
I absolutely LOVE Lindsey Stirling
Pleeeeeeeease cover Pentatonix - Aha!, Singapore, The Star Vista ....it will blow you away!!!! Pure amazement
And did you know Kevin is fluent in Mandarin...yes, the whole crew is talented beyond.
Everyone say it with me. “If you have to ask if that is Mitch, it is Mitch.”
Yes, Kevin is cello master
You need to check out Kevin's original viral video. He is cello-boxing. It was the video that convinced Scott and the others he needed to be in their group. th-cam.com/video/NKVNrrrNxU0/w-d-xo.html
Also, check out KO's solo work on KOvers.
Kevin also plays the saxophone and performed at Carnegie Hall.
Need to check out Kevin’s Kover mixes. You will love It. This one is, “Sign of the Times” (by Harry Styles
th-cam.com/video/hBFlhLEU7uU/w-d-xo.html
That Kevin playing cello and yes that’s Mitch. He changes up his look a lot. And Lindsey Sterling is the violinist and she composes her own music. I’m surprised you don’t know who she is.
This video is how I discovered Pentatonix. 😊
If you like violins, then Lindsey Sterling would be right up your alley. I like a lot of her stuff. Someone below mentions Roundtable, but I would also recommend Shadows, Senbonzakura, Prism as well!
You really should check Lindsey in this one. th-cam.com/video/TCL94-MsxYc/w-d-xo.html
I hope you do their “Say something” cover. I thinks it’s great!
If you wonder if it is Mitch, it always is Mitch - THX for your reaction
I want to second the recomendation for Lindsey Stirling's Roundtable Rival
Hey , please react to Beyonce If I were a boy 😍
Lindsey is the violinist. She has her own music too but she also does a lot of collabs. Check out the song SHE wrote called "Shatter Me" featuring Lizzy Hale from Halestorm. You might check out her first real video called Crystallize...it's dub step violin and it's incredible ♥♥♥. And yes, Kevin is playing a cello here. They rarely ever use instruments, but since Lindsey collabed with them on this, they thought the cello would go well with her violin...and they were right :D
Edit: Yes that IS Mitch.
