The feature is the Ladbrokes Trophy, a race with a track record of producing high-class staying chasers over the years. Previous winners include the likes of Arkle, Denman and Native River, and this year’s renewal is one of the most competitive in living memory.
We’ve also got some Grade 1 action in the form of the Fighting Fifth Hurdle, which is seen as a key pointer for next year’s Champion Hurdle. The reigning champion Epatante is an odds-on favourite to start the defence of her crown with a win for the Nicky Henderson team, but the in-form Sceau Royal will almost certainly have other ideas.
