Yeah the frequency follow feature is especially handle when dealing with that low fundamental frequency. As a heads up, the frequency follow feature can be a little too aggressive, causing an unnatural sound, so i like to make it gentle by not having it cut so much out.
Here's something I have never understood. So you play the midi keyboard while the vocals are playing to hear the harmony...how do you record that?? Do you make a new track and hit record rather than setting up the effects on a buss?
Great video! I was wondering what instance of Melondyne you're showcasing here . Is it Essential, the cheapest one? I am planning to buy an autotune plugin, but can't get the Antares one cause it is too expensive. Am I settled if I just buy Melondyne Essential, or should I go for Melondyne Assistant or even Editor for the more functions? I just want to pitch correct a vocal so it sounds natural och smooth, and I want it to be done with a click of a button :D
I totally get wanting vocal tuning to be as simple as possible. In this video I used the cheapest version of Melodyne, Essentials. I believe it's included with Nectar 3. When it comes to your situation, I would try out Essentials first. It might be what you need for now. There's definitely more features in Assistant, but it's hard to know if you'll actually use them. So give Essentials a shot. And if you want to upgrade you always can. I think Melodyne offers 50% off on upgrades twice a year. That's what I'd do. Hopefully this helps!
Oh good I'm happy it was helpful 🙂, I don't have a video yet about ozone, but if it helps, I did make a couple about Neutron which is more focused on mixing. Here's a link to one of them: th-cam.com/video/RF6m0d5DhKI/w-d-xo.html
After corrections are made in Melodyne, there is no need to export the corrected audio? The corrections are automatically applied to the clip in the DAW?
Hey thanks for watching! I just checked out iZotope's website and on the system requirement section for Nectar 3 I did not see Audacity listed there. If I were you, try downloading the trial version here: www.izotope.com/en/products/downloads/nectar.html That way you can see if it's compatible with Audacity, and if it is you can start having fun with it.
Great vid! Just a suggestion to back off from the SM57b. You are too close and Your plosives are distracting and bumpin the lows too much. Or use a wind screen. Or eq edit your audio - use your monitors.
Thanks for watching and for that feedback! I do feel that the lows are too much in my dialogue. I'll be filming this weekend so I'll be sure to make some adjustments
Great job. On the Melodyne segment, I think you forgot to select the notes you wanted to pitch correct. You probably meant to select all, then apply the pitch correction. And I like to check the box that moves the notes to the right note for the key you are in.
Hey man I love your video! It helped a lot. Was debating on getting ozone 9 specifically for vocals but for sure if I were to buy between the two. Nectar 3 would be my best choice correct?
Nice glad the video could help! If you want something specifically for vocals then get Nectar 3. It has vocal tuning, some tools for vocals (gate, de-esser, harmony), and using relay to help unmask the vocal is really helpful. It also comes with a light version of Melodyne. So it is very much a vocal first plugin. Ozone 9 on the other hand is what you want for Mastering. Yeah you can use it in other ways, but ozone is all about mastering.
I do use it for my videos. There are some dialogue presets to work with. Now my process chain for my vocals is usually Nectar and Pro-L 2 for limiting. I do think though that Nectar makes a lot more sense for vocals in a song than for podcasts or dialogue. But maybe I'm just not using Nectar well enough?
@@ThisIsOnesto hah, thanks, the real question is, is there something better out there :P and is it worth paying for Nectar if you already have the basic tools e.g. in Resolve. Although I must say that already the EQ is mindblowing, bomparing to the built-in Resolve's one
@@mmmmkkk totally get it. the EQ inside nectar will definitely be more flexible than a stock EQ. I think Nectar is best in two scenarios. Getting it to fit in an entire mix with the unmasking features. And using the auto-mode to give you a starting point. Otherwise, most of the tools inside Nectar are a collection of stock tools like EQ, De-Ess, Compression, etc. Since you're using it in Resolve, I do think it's possible that Nectar 3 could be a good fit. It gives you a bundle of tools that will be more powerful and flexible than stock tools. If you do want to buy it, a tip is to always buy during a sale. I feel like iZotope has some kind of sale running at all times. So you'll be able to get Nectar at a heavily discounted price. Lemme know if you have more questions

I have used this for awhile and was not aware of the frequency follow feature. Very good video!

Excellent work 😊

how to widen the stereo of the vocal in nectar 3 coz its always in mono.
There's a width control in the bottom right that should help that vocal feel more stereo.
