    "A miracle is a sign, not an obliterating of the laws of nature but a kind of intensification of them, for the sake of communicating a sign of God's presence."

    Lord Jesus please give me strength. I seem to bear the weight of the world on my shoulders as a single mom, I often face challenges that can seem insurmountable especially with raising two children with special needs. I’m trying to balance everything but Lord I’m struggling to make ends meet, to pay bills, and to put food on the table for my children. Jesus hear my prayers and please continue to give me strength.🙏🏾

    That last part just makes me think of how people feel the need to tell everyone everything. Something happens out of the ordinary and they have to call up all their friends and family and give each one a slightly different recounting of events. I have worked to overcome that desire and instead listen to what others have to say, and I have noticed that they will frequently go into great detail about things and then once they are done they will leave. A large part of what causes people to engage with others is just the desire to tell stories and certainly not to listen, the listening is just a means towards another end, a kind of politesse or social grace, but 9/10 they aren't really listening and are just waiting for an opportunity to speak some more. Being around such people is part of the reason I have learned to be such a good listener, I just know they don't actually care what I have to say and probably won't be listening to anything but the voice inside their own heads. To me this is what Jesus was instructing them not to do, the same as not praying in public or going to the synagogues for public show. Don't do everything just to draw attention to yourself.

    • @LostArchivist
      @LostArchivist 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There can't be real full communio between people if everyone only listens or only speaks, it is most fully imho, best a free mutual interweaving of humble souls in truth and love.
      But there are definitely times this involves listening much, and it is better to listen and give your time to them. There is a time to wash ours brothers feet and a time to instruct our brother (and times many other things of course, including at times letting your brother tend to and listen to you).
      I think the key is to do whatever is good and is called for to serve one another.

    It would be interesting to see Robert Barron confront David Hume’s famous discussion of miracles in a candid, “steel-manning” fashion. A forthright conversation with Stephen Woodford (aka “Rationality Rules”) on the topic of miracles could also prove enlightening, much as an earlier conversation with Alex O’Connor turned out to be.

    Loved the question at the end - a well phrased question indeed.
    The question lines up with the discussion on miracles as I heard that when Jesus healed someone, there were many many more who were not healed - Jesus loved those not healed also. Jesus didn’t want the message to be that God only loves those who were healed. Jesus loves all of us. He chose to heal for His divine purpose- which is beyond our understanding. When healing doesn’t come, it’s because God, in His divine providence, willing your salvation, chose this cross for you to bear.

    Miracles happen, sometimes we do not recognize them as they happen but we tend to share with family and avoid sharing them with strangers to avoid any embarrassing skepticism. I still remember when in 2008 I had a dream of a "nun in brown" whom I had knowledge of opening a gate that had a cross on top and lead to a spring heavenly like place, when I shared the dream with my mom she said according to my description that the lady was a Muslim. My sister said the same. Well the dream was a nun in brown with a rope around the waist and a scarf urging me to enter and there, there were golden trays with loaves of bread, olives, olive oil, grapes, and dairy. My children were standing in suites on the left of the trays. In 2009 I was baptized Catholic. In 2018, I googled nun in brown, of course there was a reason for me to do that something happened that made me remember that dream, so I googled to find out that Franciscan have the same clothing. Thinking in my ignorance that Franciscans were French, I discovered that it was attributed to St Francis of Assisi. This made me search further to know who st Francis was, so I found a movie about St. Francis, the actress who played st clare was beautiful, and I wondered what the real st clare looked like, 8 Googled , and oh my God, there is no mistake, I recognized only the painting in the lower basilica to be the one who opened the gate for me in the dream . I rushed and called my mom and I asked her, what color do nun wear, she said black and white, and I ask her who the Franciscans are, she said of course they are the French, I said of course. My sister said the same. Well, NO. We all didn't know what I saw in my dream. Again in December 2002, I had a dream of a woman in black. Well, I googled, and guess, all those movies in black, horror movies about nun in black. I stopped googling. Months later on EWTN, Gemma Galgani. I can never forget her face, in the dream her face was so distinctive. I dreamt again of a saint whom I had no knowledge of whatsoever. Let say that, somehow, I saw her face on the Internet and it stayed in my subconscious, how my brain managed to put that face on a black dress! I've no idea. Each one of my children God gave them to me after a Christian prayer, my oldest in the name of mother Mary, my middle Jesus saved him from a miscarriage in the fourth month after reading the gospel of Mark, and my youngest whom I had after giving thanks to mother Mary for her blessing. My discussion of getting baptized was after knowing that one of my relatives who was a physician was baptized in Bulgaria after he was miraculously healed from cancer. If the whole wide world tells me now that there are no miracles, I won't believe them and deny the experience I had. There are miracles for the faithful. I admit that we all tend not to share, and thank God, no one knows me as I'm sharing these, as there is always a thought "what people will say, and what people will think".

    I believe that the spirit evolves, just as the world evolves--and that some miracles that were possible to prior generations (levatation and Teresa of Avila) may not be available to us: but instead, we have the miracle of the personal computer--that was unfathomable to the time of Teresa of Avila: something that made Leonardo de Vinci so special was his ability to 'see' into the future and see what was to come (planes; helicopters; etc)...dts/usa

      @danasandlin2435 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also, I believe that people are very wrong to lose their faith when god says no and doesn't give them the perfect miracle that they are hoping for...just as god said to Job--where were you when I created the world? and why should we reject god just because he can't seem to help us personally? yet, people do that all the time--if I am not good enough for one of your miracles, then god, you are good enough for me--tit for tat--that is not the way that god works...all you can do is put up your request and hope for the best...we are not the ones that can see the future: god does....dts/usa

    In response to the listener's question, it could be that Jesus told them not to go out and tell people because they weren't ready or fully formed as evangelists to convey the message that Jesus wanted to be proclaimed. So at worst maybe they presented an image of Jesus that would later need to be clarified.

    We have to remember that the spirit realm has good ad evil. The bible is the final authority. And we have the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth, What would be the purpose And how would levigating bring glory to God Christ and bring someone to salvation? The tremendously easy thing, the grotesquely simple thing, is to remain embedded in the infamy of this world, where we are hunted at the end of this brief test.
    Sin blinds and deafens us, it tells us to continue like this, infamy does not confront us because we are already deceived.
    To a deceived brother, the beasts do not declare war because that brother is already defeated, and that defeated brother is used to seek more defeated ones, ensuring the condemnation of the first because of the condemnation of the others.
    Let us be prudent, let us be sensible, let us try not to fall into the pride of believing ourselves to be saved, because we will be saved when God Christ says, until the end of our trial, everything is a trial.

    for most part we humans fit into normal beings, within the bell shaped curve Almost 99% percent we are born normal without any deformities . its on either side of the bell shaped curve , the fringes we have the deformities like Our Lord said " “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him." to have deformities is not a normal human condition. Our Lord normalized these extreme manifestation of human condition or miracles , which in way signifies God's works. Today we have medical science that tries to normalize these abnormalities through science. But Our Lord could normalize human condition with his divine will and as a proof of his divinity. He is God and was with God when man evolved through billions years of evolution. and these anomalies arise due to genetic malfunctions due to evolutionary processes....................

    The absence of determinism is literally a square-circle. But probabilities only really measure our ignorance about a particles position and says nothing of the particles actual position. We can't rely on physicists to explain this because they are only human as well. How can something be in an up spin and a down spin at the same time without actually contradicting itself? And then we are back to the beginning of this conversation where we said such things are ridiculous. I like Bishop Barron, but.. let's call a spade a spade. Saying logical contradictions are impossible even for God and then saying within a few minutes that particles can be two opposite things simultaneously, is simultaneously saying two opposite things. That is a total logical square-circle.
    If there is any contradiction in nature, it is most likely to be in our estimation of it. Quite likely particles are not contradictory, but what we understand as a particle is what is contradictory. According to physics they aren't actually particles anyway, but perturbances in one of the fields (electron field) being dragged by the Higgs field. In this view there are no particles to be located anywhere.
    But I mean the simplest logic is of course you don't know what's in the box before you open it and look inside. You don't know what you don't know until you know it. Somehow this got twisted into particles popping in and out of existence randomly, when its actually a goopy soup that swirls and condenses in different areas and some of those condensations are trapped by the drag of the Higgs field and appear to us as particles for their short 'existence'. Eddies in a stream might be a good metaphor, due to the chaotic motion of the stream you don't always know where they will appear, but they don't appear at random either, and the same eddy certainly does not exist in two places at the same time, since eddies don't really exist they are just an appearance, a means for the human mind to understand what is going on.

I'm certainly not a math genius, it is only my understanding that if you sum the total set of all probabilities the result is 1 and that if you average out those probabilities with Feynman's equations the result is what will actually happen. It would be pretty strange that things were wholly unpredictable and illogical but still somehow predictable and consistent given the right equations.

    Divine Intervention! I’ve personally witnessed several unbelievable miracles in my life! One of them was my sister at 18 months old, fell waist deep in fire ants, went into anaphylactic shock, slipped into a 6 week coma. During the 6 weeks she was completely unresponsive & Specialists said she would die or be vegetative for life. Our Msgr came to bless her with The True Cross (Splinter of Jesus’ Cross encased). He said some prayers, placed The Cross on her chest,as soon as The Cross touched her skin, she immediately shot straight up, turned on her side and laid down. She woke up an hour later. Mk5:41 She’s had a few issues, but lives a normal life, college, children, grandchildren, etc. My dad converted to Catholic afterwards as he knew The Catholic Church is the only one established by Jesus Christ & he wanted to be a part of Gods Kingdom. He said you can’t argue with what you see. My parents thought they were being punished for whatever, but God knew it would take my dad witnessing this miracle to want to convert to His One True Apostolic Catholic Church. God has a reason for everything!

We are very fortunate to have the best and brightest explaining the mysteries of our faith with reason, credibility, clarity and intelligibility. The somewhat fine line between divine non -competitive intervention in creation and being present in creation (without crossing the line into pantheism) is a very interesting matter of consideration. Nobody better than Bishop Barren to clarify these theological questions. Thank you!

    Bishop Barron is smarter than me and also more educated. "Nevertheless," I would be careful about pointing to modern science/the quantum world as an opening to find evidence of God. I doubt that we are meant to discover God through science (--even if he can be seen there, an important distinction). For whatever reason, our reality has been made to look mechanistic, and it would be surprising if the future of science does not continue to find mechanisms within mechanisms in whatever new and amazing ways. I believe we are meant to find God through forgiveness and love; and once this is accomplished, God can be perceived everywhere, as the bishop said of mystics. Science, on the other hand, will probably continue to find the machine in everything, and there is nothing threatening in this. Science will never (by its nature) have anything to say about a single person's interior experience of his true love for his brother. It can go on forever detailing materialistic correlations and physical principles, and that is interesting; but it is not metaphysically meaningful. We don't need quantum flexibility to justify miracles or faith.
    *I am sorry if I have misrepresented what was being said.
    **It is difficult to find true love for one's brother, which is why God is mostly invisible.**

    If it is written in the Gospel as the Word of God nothing can be a sin.
    It was God’s will that this was written - so we can see the story of Christ evolve and build to the revelation on the Cross and what follows.
    The Disciples and apostles did what was asked of them as best they could - and then obeyed when the written word was finally necessary for US to know.
