what's so hard about downloading wireshark?

Nothing, lol. But I know from experience that some companies won't allow their users to download any programs off the interwebs. - Shannon

Hey guys, I really love your vids and I've been subscribed to HAK5 since I was like 12 but I didn't understand anything back then and now I understand a little more and it's all thanks to you, EEVBlogs and thenewboston yt channel. I'd like to make a suggestion to you guys: Why don't you start a multi-part educational project. Like for example do some hacks on some items that people who are into tech might have laying around, because then they might do it themselves following your tutorials and maybe learn something from them. I'd really love to see some hacks on USB memory sticks or WiFi adapters or maybe even phones...

I'm sorry, but open source (free) and actually captures packets.. vs not capturing packets and not free.. why would anyone do that? when you can just save the pcap file.. and the small amount of reasons like your boss being an idiot or a normal user makes me wonder why the hell would he even be looking at pcap files?

Well, from my infosec friends - they've used pcap files as proof to get a CFO to pay for valuable upgrades for their departments. And as I mentioned in my show, educators would find this valuable, specially if students can't download wireshark but they need to learn it. /shrug - Shannon

Thats understandable but shouldn't we not be sharing vulnerable information to the cloud to to prove to our bosses we need to upgrade something? Either way for the use in education I can understand but actually day to day use I really can't also woo thanks for responding to my comment

Agreed, and also mentioned in the segment (i.e. the part where I yelled about sharing secure data in the cloud). According to cloudshark though (via twitter), companies can implement their own apps so it wouldn't be using their servers. Thanks for the comment!

Would they support protocols that are not available through Wireshark by default? Eg, are they able to recognise and decode the full ETSI specs suite?

How much did they pay you to make this video?

    • @hak5

I'm surprised it took 2 days after posting for someone to complain about me reviewing a paid product. CloudShark paid us nothing - this show is sponsored by Atlassian. Unfortunately not a lot of youtubers know the FTC laws, but legally, a podcaster cannot take money from a company without explicitly saying so in their show, or they can get sued. That's why we always says "this episode is brought to you by" at the beginning of our shows, so our viewers know exactly who is sponsoring us. If you have questions, please feel free to reach out. - Shannon
