Thanks for posting! I have the same skylight on my camper and the same thing happened, the lid broke off in the wind so I need to make the exact same repair so this is super helpful. Did you also replace the blinds? My blinds are also damaged so I want to replace them and was curious how the old ones come off and the new ones go on. I was also curious if you think repairing it this way is a better option than replacing the whole unit? As you know, you cannot get replacement parts so I have a whole unit on the way and was curious if keeping it intact would be better. Let me know what you think, thank you!
Hey! So so sorry for the delay. Yes! We did replace the entire blind/bug screen unit because ours was also all mangled. The frustrating part of it is now the blind “accordions” weird when we close it, and we haven’t found a good way to address that 🤷♀️
@@jonengen1029 and also, I think replacing it was better, we used dap sealant and butyl tape on the mounting frame to waterproof it so it would have been a pain to have to cut the whole thing away and get the frame off.
Totally hear you. We thought about the orientation before install, but determined that because of the roof deck and solar acting as a wind break and in combination with being locked it would be ok! So far it’s been a non issue. Our priority was being able to crawl from our bed to the roof deck so we’re just dealing with the consequences 😂
@@travellin_kind Ha! Yeah, that's what I debated, too. But ultimately decided to install the way the manual stated. Man, that skylight is built to such poor quality, though. The plastic and all the hardware is junk. And the install requires a lot more planning than their MaxxAir fans...
I just picked up one of these second hand and it feels very flimsy. I am concerned about this potentially happening or the closing mechanism failing etc.

I would recommend installing the opposite direction next time to avoid this. This is stated in the installation manual from Maxxair.
