  • Today in the world of snooker, when legends are being discussed the usual names pop up. O'Sullivan, Hendry, Davis, Reardon etc
But has anyone played as big a role in the history of snooker's story than Joe Davis?. (RIP).
Joe won the very first final of the world snooker championship in 1927 and would go on to win the title 15 times and is still the only snooker player in history to remain unbeaten in snookers biggest event.
A hugely impressive feat because as David Hendon explains in the clip Joe had no footsteps to follow. He was the one leading the way in those important initial years and its clear the world snooker championship would not be what is today without his input.

Joe Davis took Snooker from a second rate sport to the colossus we all know and love today.

Not a fan of comparing sporting legends from different eras especially when they're many decades apart. As time progresses, so many things evolve within a sport. Joe Davis was certainly great in his time, one of the biggest influences the sport of snooker has seen.
